MAB Signed Partnership with Emirates Effective 1 February 2016

Recommended Posts

Hot hot hot as leaked by the spies at the MH Rumour Department:

Looks for news tomorrow. Itu jer.

Keywords:

- Sign a partnership

- Extensive code shares

- Expect an explosive announcement tomorrow.

Is MAB EK's second wife after QF?

EK is a Middle Eastern company hence poligamy is allowed.

I think the focus will be EK's destinations to the west, north and south of DXB since MH's strong remaining fort in that area will only be LHR.

I think CDG and AMS will be terminated.

MH pax will be spending a significant amount of time connecting in DXB.

I think a few new DXB-KUL-Australia/New Zealand routes will be introduced too.

All EK's 4 daily flight to KUL will be on the A380. A few more A380 DXB-KUL flight might be introduced too. 10 daily DXB-KUL A380 anyone?

Expect QF comeback to KUL?

Cannot one. First wife and second wife are in no-talking terms. Remember first wife and second wife's bad blood history (both used to be close friends to the point that they want to live together. Then the second wife's affair with Mr. Oneworld, which is from the first wife's introduction).

This is surprising. MH has code-share agreement with QR and EY (doesn't mean much but at least they do have some agreement in place) but almost nothing with EK. And AA/EY was supposed to announce a JV soon (so much so that AA was strongly rumored to fly DFW-AUH) and CX will be terminating their extensive code-share agreement with QR soon. Seems like no one wants to partner with QR (even QR's OW sponsor, BA).

QR - Don't know if they have an extensive JV or marketing agreement with any OW airlines

EY - AA and AB (AC will be the next logical partner if they want to sequential :p)

EK - QF and now MH?

Malaysia Airlines, Emirates, ink agreement for codeshare partnership

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 2): Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB) has inked a reciprocal codeshare partnership agreement with Emirates that will gain it access to over 90 destinations on the Emirates network across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas - and in return open its network in the Asia Pacific to Emirates - besides providing its customers exclusive frequent flyer benefits and an enhanced travel experience.

Will there be increased possibility of other airports in Malaysia being served directly by EK?

MH is living in Two Worlds...

Hmm... so now also can expecting MH's A380s fully deployed to DXB like QF's?

hmm I am not sure if it will benefit MH as much as it has benefited QF. For QF, connecting in Dubai opens up the whole of Europe, East Coast USA, and Africa, with a one stop flight to most destinations. QF cannot fly non-stop to these destinations anyway.

For MH... well MH could fly non-stop to most European destinations (but of course, it cant make money).

I agree it doesn't seem this will benefit MH and KUL that much. Now, you need to go through DXB to go to AMS and CDG. I can see most passengers from Asia and Australia going to Europe skips KUL/MH and take other airlines connecting directly to Europe (SIN/CX, HKG/CX etc)

Probably too far fetch, but what if EK can persuade MH to mount direct flights to YYZ via Dubai. Right now EK flies there for meagre 3x weekly, the only Canadian dest. for EK.

Reckon there is more to this than meets the eye.. Have heard rumours that DNATA is also eyeing to take up MAB Ground Handling.. Remember recently SATS also launched a bid for Brahims.. It seems the pie is being carved and served up at KLIA.. Hopefully the remaining slice isn't just only "humble"

Latest from the spies at the MH Rumour Department:

Try booking KUL-AMS or CDG after Jan 25 ex KUL and Jan 26 ex CDG and AMS. See what pops up. Hahahahahaha

Ok confirm. AMS is OUT by 25/26 January 2016. Bye bye Pieter! All MH flights to AMS will be with KLM.

CDG is OUT too. No flight to CDG after the mentioned date and no alternative flight given either in the website.

Bye bye Oneworld?

QF partners with EK too but their Oneworld ties are still strong. Besides, didn't the head Oneworld said they allow extra-alliance relationships if it makes business sense to their members?

Another leak from the spies at the MH Rumour Department:

Load has been dismal. E.g. DXB, going 100, coming back 80.

Cabin crew will go for another round of weight check in January (another route for termination if one is too fat to fly and to serve). Pure BMI. So fat and muscle count. No bonus points for badan sado.

With this news, it would now appear that MH should operate their DXB services to better connect with EK flights to Europe and the Americas. That was what QF did and it seems to be working well - QF is making profits again. EK gains with more connectivity to ASEAN/East Asia.

This news is definitely a shocker. Wonder why oneworld airlines doesn't work well with QR. Seems like the writing is on the wall, nobody likes AAB.

Really sad to see Malaysia Airlines Berhad in today's situation. From 100+ destinations across six continents in 1990s-2000s, boasting a fleet of more than 100 aircraft; now we are left with only a handful of South East Asia, East Asia and Australia route with fewer aircraft....

Probably too far fetch, but what if EK can persuade MH to mount direct flights to YYZ via Dubai. Right now EK flies there for meagre 3x weekly, the only Canadian dest. for EK.

Canada government has been very, very conservative with flight allocation to foreign airlines, so much so that even blue chip airline like SQ couldn't make daily flight happened. In the end, they suspended all Canada bound flight even through Seoul.

Air Canada has also lobbied very very hard to block ME3 from gaining any additional flight to any major cities. EK may need to deploy their Y-heavy A380 to counter this protectionism.

MAS would be left with just one european city ie London. This would effectively cut MAS down to a regional Asia and australasia carrier and may not be good for MH in the medium run. Note that Emirates also fly from Dubai to KUL and that it can fly in with more A380s to carry the pax wholly instead of of sharing with MH on code-sharing basis too. And with the new CEO mentioning that Australia would not be a core for MH as its "saturated and limited growth", one wonders what will become of MAS in future.

With the exception of KUL-LHR, MH routes will basically confined to 8 hours or less, similar to D7. The biggest impact from MH-EK marriage will be D7. If D7 business model doesn't change soon, D7 is unlikely to be profitable or survive.

Any possibility, MH's A380 will be sold to EK as part of the deal?

I agree. D7 needs to revise their strategy fast and might need to adopt a new business strategy. EK can offer some really unbeatable deals, comes with 30kg free luggage allowance, awesome IFE and countless destinations for north and South America, Europe and Africa.

I don't think EK will be interested in second hand A380. They have another 51 on order. If they want A380 'desperately', they would have taken ex-Skymark and those two Airbus production birds.
