Lufthansa to Terminate Kuala Lumpur on 1 March 2016

Recommended Posts

From 2016 onward, Kuala Lumpur will be among the first Asian destinations to receive LH's A350. Current winter season see B744, summer A343. LH will start flying four cabin offering to KL soon.

I am looking forward for B748 or A380 for their winter schedule!

No, KUL will not see B748 and A380 at all as they are deployed on trunk international, premium heavy route. B77-X too. KUL will only get B744, A343 and future A350.

On the A380, even if the market demand to KUL improves, it still cannot be done because CGK is an A380 capacitated airport, unless the tag-on is axed.

Interesting. Is the A346 too big for KUL?

They do come regularly on weekdays during the summer schedule.

Interesting. Is this for Summer 2016? Their S16 schedules is not out yet and 4-cabin product is even more surprising. Good news nonetheless.

The A346s are in the process of being transferred over to MUC hub (FRA will only have A343 whilst MUC will only have A346 in the future). And the FRA-based A346 are all old C and old F.

Seems like LH is reversing its planned B744 services on LH 782/783 for NW15/16. LH782/783 for NW15/16 will be 5 weekly A343.

Looks like LH is cancelling the KUL-CGK-KUL sector. Maybe KL is hitting them big time.

Hope they succeed in the FRA-KUL-FRA sectors at least, '

Lufthansa from 25OCT15 is cancelling service to Indonesia, as the Star Alliance member eliminates Kuala Lumpur – Jakarta sector. With this service changes, LH will operate Frankfurt – Kuala Lumpur terminator flight, on board Airbus A340-300 aircraft. Operational schedule for the 5 weekly service in winter 2015/16 season as follow.

LH782 FRA2210 – 1725+1KUL 343 x13
LH783 KUL0110 – 0740FRA 343 x35

From my insider, LH is now offering RM350 L class fare to sell out the remaining KUL-CGK flight. They are slowly closing GDS reservation. Apparently through their online booking engine, you can only find mostly W class fare.

Insider info: One of the main reasons why CGK never work for LH (either via KUL or SIN) is due to crew layover. Way too costly than expected. With MH terminated Frankfurt, LH is hoping their load will pick up.

Lufthansa will reduce its KUL frequency between 9JAN16 and 25MAR16 from 5 to 3 weekly flights.

LH782 FRA 2210 - 1725+1 KUL 343 246

LH783 KUL 2315 - 0545 +1 FRA 343 357

Let's see how long LH will remain in KUL. I'd be surprised if they are still around by the end of 2016.

It'll be a shame if they leave. They were doing pretty well at one stage.

Economies are slowing down and the RM is plunging to depths not seen in a long time. So, both business and leisure travellers will probably be lower than before. I can see LH cutting the service if 3X weekly is not able to attract sufficient numbers of pax....

Wrong aircraft type too.. A343 is horrible on fuel consumption and product.

LH doesn't really have a better alternative. That's their smallest aircraft capable of flying FRA-KUL.

Current oil price levels should not matter as much as before as the delta between the A343 and B77L will not be as high as before.

Since LH does not have B77Ls in their fleet, the A343 is their only aircraft that is small enough to do this long and thin route. No doubt, a 242t A333 would be better suited but LH don't have these!
