If they're expecting new planes by 2017, that means it's definitely not going to be the 777X. Come to think of it, I wonder how they're going to get A350s or 787s delivered by then... Unless they want more A330s

If they can get 2017 slots, it will probably be from leasing companies' order books.

I've heard that if the management decides to go with the A350XWB (which is very likely), they're taking slots from D7.

I hope not. Still hoping for some kind of Boeing. 787-9 perhaps?

Last I heard (2 days ago) they are still considering.

Anyway "taking delivery slot from D7" is one of the expected thing from the now-aborted CCF, but that is another story.

Boeing or Airbus might want to ask MH to get a number and join the queue......Both queue have a lot of prominent airlines, waiting for their plane, most if not all aircraft might have been allocated to intended airlines. Airbus taking in MH's B777 for A350?? Hehe!

Hmm.. What do aircraft manufacturer do with the aircrafts they take back? like if this is true.. what would airbus do with the T7 they took from MH?

They will either lease them out as test aircraft for some new technology, lease out as interim aircraft to airline, stored them permanently or scrap them........better yet sell them to Hollywood Studio....

Fresh from the press:

Garuda Indonesia aims to order 200-250 aircraft from 2014 -CEO

BY SIVA GOVINDASAMY

HONG KONG Thu Nov 14, 2013 5:20am EST

Nov 14 (Reuters) - Indonesia's flag carrier Garuda Indonesia wants to add 200-250 aircraft over 2015-2025 to meet demand in one of the world's fastest-growing aviation markets, its chief executive said on Thursday. The airline wants to buy some directly from manufacturers and lease the remainder, Emirsyah Satar told Reuters on the sidelines of an industry event in Hong Kong.

Garuda had 131 aircraft as at September-end. Existing orders and impending retirement will put the total at 194 in 2015.

The airline intends to retire aircraft in the following years as it adds more planes, and aims for a fleet of 350-400 with an average age of six years by 2025, said Satar.

Garuda is looking for single-aisle aircraft for routes of up to five hours, and larger wide-body aircraft for medium- and long-haul services, he said. Boeing Co's 737 Max and Airbus S.A.S.'s A320neo would satisfy Garuda's short haul needs. Boeing's 787 and 777 and Airbus' A350 could be contenders for its medium- and long-haul requirements.

Looks like A and B will be busy with their Southeast Asian customers.

Bring on the shows...

Dubai Airshow will be interesting!

If they want it quickly, they may lease 77W as an interim solution and buy A350.

Somehow I am comfy with this idea.

Not forgetting the B787-9 / 777X

Would the 777x be ready for production on 2017?

It is not even launched - and Boeing expects it to be ready in 2019 at the earliest.

For 2017 delivery (non leased), we can probably narrow it down to B787-9/B787-10/A359/A35J.

No, not accroding to current Boeing schedule. Earliest we will see will be in 2020 when the production starts in full swing. 2019 will be test flight and etc.

From 2014-2017 is another 3 years....can our 777-200 interior last that long....its already showing its wear and tear

Perhaps MH can consider cosmetic upgrading like the seat cover and buff up those wear and tear.......Smarties anyone??

If the T7's gonna be around for another 3 years, surely, surely it warrants a cabin upgrade, not just businness class but y class as well. C'mon MH!Throw in some 10.6 inches for Y class.

Our EPF....abuthen.....

Sure or not? If I'm not mistaken for the A380s the only Government help was loans at better than market interest rates, not free money.

As was stated before, new seats takes 6-8 years for ROI so it's not good business sense to upgrade planes on their way out.

Return on investment could also be in form of preventive measure against prospect of your premium customers migrating to your competitors' superior products. Once lost, you'll likely have to spend even more to bait them back to fill seats in your new planes, which it must be noted is only a consideration at this point in time

That was done already, when MAS did their capital restructuring. Remember, MAS issued a lot of new shares and EPF had taken up their rights?

MH does not own the A380s - a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Turus Pesawat Sdn Bhd, was established by the govt. to buy the six A380s and also two A330s from them. MH is now leasing the planes (for 20 years) from this SPV.

All the off balance sheet financing has helped MAS to look more profitable as it no longer needs to suffer heavy depreciation charges on the new aircraft.
