Mushrif A 3 Report post Posted February 23, 2011 If you can find a way to make paint lighter then it'll be fine. The old Hibiscus paintjob weighs about 7 tonnes. Dollar-wise, did MH do any analysis on the extra fuel burn vs. marketing/ brand exposure?
Johan Z 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2011 (edited) It makes the aircraft popular, but doesn't mean people want to ride on it solely because it's beautiful. At the end of the day, it's about the price and service. Edited February 23, 2011 by Johan Z
Nuriman Ahmad 2 Report post Posted February 23, 2011 Apparently the Hibiscus and Heliconia paintjobs were rather painful for MH's coffers..
mokhzani 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2011 Dollar-wise, did MH do any analysis on the extra fuel burn vs. marketing/ brand exposure? During the early stage of the 2nd WW, Boeing B17 was painted in drab olive. They found out that, that paint weighs as much as 200 Kg or pounds (can't remember). Hence the later B17 and B29 was sent to war without any paint. The advantages of not painting the a/c is very obvious here as the a/c can carry more ammos and bombs...... dean hizudy 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2011 To make an attractive livery, doesnt need to have a very striking livery like Heliconia and the Hibiscus. They can have a simple livery yet stunning such as Thai Airways and Garuda's new livery. In this case, MAS should add more colors into their livery instead of the boring red and blue. Why not MAS paint their aircraft with not-so common colors such as marooned and gold...

Apparently, that's the reason why the went with the old livery to replace the red & white livery (red & blue is the flag of Singapore...), or so I was told. BC Tam 2 Report post Posted February 23, 2011 With the newer planes nowadays, silver-bullet colour schemes I imagine will end up as a patchwork-quilt colour scheme instead Reasonable to assume we're not likely ever to see a silver-bulleted 787 ?!
Johan Z 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2011 Maybe MH should fly their aircraft in primer colour and stick up Malaysia flag on the fuselage. It saves a lot of weight and money
S V Choong 4 Report post Posted February 24, 2011 Or go bare metal like the likes of JL, AA or CX silver bullet.

Is this our country's policy that our national carrier livery must inspired from our flag's colors? Singapore's flag is red and white but SIA liveries are yellow, gold and black

Singapore's flag is red and white but SIA liveries are yellow, gold and black My guess that SQ is adopting the colors of its predecessor,MSA (Which was yellow & black) during its formation in 1972,and Gold was later added. JuliusWong 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2011 On a side note: Korean Air first A380 is fully painted. First non Eurowhite livery...The blue makes the A380 looks obese, IMO. <_> http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/read.main/5075357/
BC Tam 2 Report post Posted February 24, 2011 Singapore's flag is red and white but SIA liveries are yellow, gold and black It is not black, but a very very dark hue of blue ..... the colors of its predecessor,MSA (Which was yellow & black) ..... Yes, it was black in those days

Yes it's red & white. Anyways, as it was pointed MH don't have yellow because SQ's already using yellow on its livery.
flee 5 Report post Posted February 24, 2011 SQ is using gold, not yellow. However MH might not want to use yellow because that colour is associated with Royalty. Furthermore, yellow was used in the days of Malayan Airways and Malaysia-Singapore Airlines.

Y. J. Foo 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2011 Do non-aviation enthusiasts like so many passengers even care at all about the new livery? They only have positive remarks about it. They wouldn't give a cuss whether they'd be flying aboard a Heliconia or OneWorld or Eurowhite. Their paramount concerns would be to fly with someone which offers the cheapest possible. Some more seasoned would look further into their hardware and software but few would make decisions solely on their corporate livery.
