The AK kiosk came in first - then the SITA appeared. On the other hand this is great for those who has minimal luggage. Or Luggage is set to the side. I used the SITA one the other day, and it spat out my boarding pass, but i still had to do document check at counter.. Chief executive officer Chandran Ramamuthy said the newly-opened airport’s aim to make Malaysia a regional transit and tourism hub fits well with the airline’s growth strategy. “We want to make Malaysia a transit and tourism hub in Asean. And klia2 was built for the same purpose. So, the airport complements our business strategy,” he said in an interview recently. The RM4 billion klia2 was opened on May 2 after a few hiccups and Malindo Air was the first to arrive. The airline’s Flight OD1027 on a Boeing B737-900ER touched down on the 4km Runway 3 from Kota Kinabalu at the stroke of midnight on the opening day. “Our operations have been stable since the first day. Even though our fleet size is not as big as other players, we did not experience any major glitches because we were prepared for the move to klia2,” Chandran said. Eastbound SIDs for Runway 33/15 involve a lot more track miles. The STARs for WMKK/KUL were always unnecessarily complicated with too many transitions. They just got more complicated. In an age when there are serious issues regarding climate change, carbon footprint and permanently high oil prices, these flaws are unacceptable. What's more, WMKK/KUL doesn't suffer from land scarcity, terrain, highly populated surroundings, noise restrictions, proximity to a neighbouring airspace, military airspace, etc. In many countries, these and many other factors place lots of restrictions on air traffic management. What the DCA has done for WMKK/KUL is totally incomprehensible. The opening of klia2 and Runway 33/15 was a good chance for the DCA to simplify the procedures and improve air traffic management. What they've done is complicate it further and made it more inefficient. The UK's CAA and NATS would be shocked to see this. DCA's planners only need 5 minutes in Heathrow to realize what they could have done. Just wondering if anyone knows what would the norm be to change arrival/departure procedures and/or (I believe it has happened too with the opening of klia2) add new waypoints? For TF, minimum cost is his group forte! Well, many people don't understand MAHB's logic. By right, the more passengers you deliver to the airport, the cheaper the cost should be per pax. LCCT went from zero to 20+m pax and the fees never reduced when the pax numbers grew. Now that we have klia2, pax growth will continue to shoot up. And airport charges are going up as well. leon t 0 Report post Posted June 16, 2014 the new KLIA2 is a much welcomed airport with its aerobridges and air conditioned concourses. Having tried KLIA2 on 3 occasions departing and arriving from international destinations, the main gripe is the long walk from the gate to the immigration will take easily 12 to 15 mins on a normal walking pace, and then after clearing immigration, its another 15 mins more of walking to the car pick up point or to the taxi stands. One is "forced to walk through the web of shopping and eateries. The main question for MAHB is - whtehr KLIA2 is designed as a airport or a shopping mall?
