A bunch of bullocks yet again !!!

MH is slacking off terribly...lagging behind like so backward, words can't even describe how much they are beaten by our neighbours tremendously!! I think they should just close shop now than to wait any longer for their progress, looks like they have all the support of a certain group to allow them to mess about until they realize the damages too late!

MH keeps pushing the orders to later and later, every time its next quarter or next month or later and later !!

I am sure Air Asia will beat them to it and AK will eventually become our national carrier !!

HAhahah BC Tam...that is excellent. Five star comment at low cost prices (or is it?) ...LOL

MAS wants to fly 25 million pax/year by 2015?? Are you joking? SIA already fly 18-19 million NOW (MAS used to a few years back). CX/dragonair fly 2 million people per month NOW. EK will be flying everyone ELSE to and fro its super DXB hub.

The learned members will still be trying to see where they went wrong against Jet Airways etc etc.

''How can it be? We are FSVC. Why is NO one flying us? ''

There will be at least 500 meetings/brainstorms a year but more and more crap will be churned out. There will at least be a BTP trilogy before 2010. Interesting toilet read but nothing much more.

Understand PMB decide which, when and how many aircraft to buy. MH can only recommend.

Given current Boeing and Airbus order book, delivery for 787 or A350 new order is after 2012. Unless MH is going to lease the aircraft, to order in ’08 or ‘09 won’t make much a difference to delivery.

As for 734 replacement, believe 737NG is coming to the end of product life cycle. Boeing is likely to launch Y1/737 replacement after 787 is bedded down or Airbus launch A320 replacement. To order 734 replacement too soon, MH may ended up with previous generation aircraft in 5 to 8 years time. Unless PMB is smart enough to tie Boeing to roll over to Y1 when available.

makes good sense really when read in conjunction with recent M&A overtures eminating from Datuk IJ recently - think fleet commonality with AK's busses :)

Pretty much consistent with everything they have done so far isn't it? Launching something with so much fan fare only to be told that it is passe already. Remember their "AN EXPRERIENCE REDIFINED" enhancements? A pale carbon copy of SQ's "NOW MORE THAN EVER, A GREAT WAY TO FLY" campaign in 1998. Quite kesian actually...

I still can't get over this recurring 737 fleet fiasco ! A recap here, for those who are not aware, for those with short memory span and for others to correct me if I got it wrong !

Lease in of a couple of 737NG's something like a couple of years ago, one wingletted

A few months later, leases were terminated early and MH incurred heavy penalty charges

Later, a few of MH's 734's were leased out (Nok Air ?)

Then there was felt a need to lease in additional 734's from elsewhere to make up fleet shortage

Now, to lease in 737NG's again, as interim measure it seems as manufacturer A is rumoured to have made the necessary scoop at MH

Either MH has no fleet planner in her employment or s/he is holding a most unenviable position due to ever shifting policy focus at management level ! :pardon:

Then there was felt a need to lease in additional 734's from elsewhere to make up fleet shortage.

Just to add more information, there were 2 B734s being leased to TG's Nok Air; 9M-MQH and 9M-MQL. Later on (on 26 May 2007 to be precise), 2 B734s were acquired from Air Berlin to make up for the aircraft shortage (9M-MQP and 9M-MQQ).

The question is, why gave up 2 aircrafts to another airlines and then looking for 2 others for your own use, when you had the 2 aircrafts earlier in the first place? It would be a huge blow if the cost of leasing of the 2 Air Berlin aircrafts is more than the revenue generated from the lease of the 2 aircrafts to Nok Air. Even Captain Radzi had complained about this matter in another thread if I am not mistaken.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think those 2 aircraft were sold in the old days (TR era) during a "sale and leaseback" program. That was before PMB come into being. So time has come when the lease ends, but those who was responsible for it was long gone. And probably it was cheaper to lease MQQ/MQP than to continue leasing the ones that goes to Nok and Pacific.

end of the quarter pulak?? whatever happened to end of Jan or end of Feb? might be second quarter. Don't hold your breath. I wouldn't.

This sale and leaseback of aircraft is the same with their route planning. Sell hard earned slots, then change their mind but can't get any more slots....so - fly to another airport instead.

Airbus today expressed confidence that Malaysia Airlines will not cancel its order for six A380 super-jumbos despite long delays in supplying the aircraft.

"No, we are not discussing a cancellation at this point," Airbus chief operating officer for customers, John Leahy, told reporters.

"We don't want to comment on ongoing discussions and negotiations but I'll be hopeful that we'll have something to announce in the not too distant future," he said.

Deliveries of the A380, the world's largest commercial airliner and the cornerstone in Airbus efforts to catch up with Boeing, are now three years behind schedule because of production problems.

Malaysia Airlines has said however that delivery delays will not hurt its recovery plan under which it has broken back into the black in recent years.

Airbus has said that the carrier will be compensated for the delay in the delivery of the aircraft.

Leahy also said that Airbus had submitted an updated proposal to supply the national carrier with about 50 narrow-bodied aircrafts - A320s and A321s - as replacements to its existing fleet.

"They told us today they'll be making a decision very shortly on their narrow-bodied replacements," he said.

Wasn't there similar soundwaves (of denial) coming out from Airbus before FedEx cancelled their dugong orders ?

Would anyone else consider it a measure of how far Airbus is below their targetted expectations of the A380 programme if they are willing/made to make all this effort to salvage an (miserly six units) order from MAS ?

Rumour confirmed, well... almost. A big day in Malaysian aviation. From MH's official press release:

31 Mar, 2008

MALAYSIA AIRLINES TO BUY UP TO 55 BOEING 737-800 AT USD 4.2 BILLION, TAKES DELIVERY OF A380 IN 2011

Subang: Malaysia Airlines today announced its narrowbody fleet acquisition plan which saw the national carrier ordering up to 55 B737-800 aircraft. The national carrier will also take delivery of 6 A380-800 in 2011. Managing Director/ CEO, Dato’ Sri Idris Jala said, “Under our Business Transformation Plan, we are embarking on our network expansion to transform into the World’s Five Star Value Carrier.

“I am very excited with these developments as these new fleets will both form a strong platform for Malaysia Airlines to profitably grow. The deliveries will not happen for a few years yet, when the weakness in the global economy should be less of a concern. We have placed a firm order for 35 B737-800 with an option for another 20 aircraft. The total cost of the 55 aircraft is USD 4.2 billion at list prices.

“We expect to take delivery of the first aircraft from September 2010 onwards, which will be used to replace our existing B737-400 fleet and to allow us to expand to points which were not previously economically viable.” Malaysia Airlines also have the option to swap the B737-800 to the larger B737-900.

He also said, “These aircraft will be used mainly for the ASEAN region, including the domestic sector in Malaysia and the fast growing economies of China and India. Clearly, we are now gearing ourselves to benefit from the growth of this region which is projected at around 6 percent per annum.

“As our aim is to ensure that the aircraft for the core network will always be the latest in terms of technology, we will likely partially purchase the B737-800 on our own and partially lease them as that would give us the flexibility to manage our balance sheet and financing commitments, and to sell some of them when the timing is right.”

Jala also announced that Malaysia Airlines will take delivery of all 6 A380-800 in 2011, with the first aircraft to be delivered in January and the sixth in August. “After extensive discussions with Airbus and Penerbangan Malaysia Berhad, we have agreed on the terms for the delayed delivery of the 6 A380-800 aircraft ordered by PMB in 2003. The terms include an agreed amount of compensation for the delay.”

The 6 A380-800 aircraft was supposed to have been delivered from January 2007 to December 2008. Jala added, “I think today is a good day for Malaysia Airlines, Airbus and Boeing. We kept the A380 on terms that are win-win for us and Airbus. We placed narrowbody jet orders with Boeing. We are happy to work with both aircraft manufacturers.

“We are now looking at the widebody aircraft replacement and will intensify our discussions with the manufacturers. This is again an opportunity for both Airbus and Boeing to make their best pitch for our business. Malaysia Airlines is committed to expand its network for the medium and long haul market.”
