Y. J. Foo 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 i think KLIA really need a cinema... 17368[/snapback] Good idea, but hopefully nobody will complain when they miss their flight while watching movies... I once read from somewhere that AMS has a casino inside the airport for travellers to gamble While I am not suggesting that KLIA should build a casino, we should still offer something unique, say, materialise the theme park or build a gallery or museum, to make KLIA as a tourist attraction itself. But whatever they do, just don't sacrifice the viewing gallery!!
Rozhan 0 Report post Posted November 27, 2005 Yes, don't sacrifice the viewing gallery. It is warm enough there already as MAHB somehow has reduced air-cond power there. By the way, Penang has already sacrificed its gallery and now replaced with airline offices! And taxi touts has spread its wings (or rather wheels) there too!! No viewing gallery at such an important airport as PEN is NOT visitor / traveller friendly I think.

That's correct: Schiphol does operate a casino, as well as a small exhibition of the Rijksmuseum where you can watch real Rembrandt paintings

Kevin Teh 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2005 i agree that the economy is one of the major forces in expanding the KLIA.. i think one year is enough to complete the new satellite building and thats why we dont heard anything now...
Jamie H 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2005 That's correct: Schiphol does operate a casino Which is why I love Schiphol so much!! On top of the fact that it is so user friendly - countless signages, shops and cafes just about everywhere (even near the gates), the internet cafe on the 2nd floor and of the course the quiet area near to the museum where you can doze off easily. Schiphol is the European Changi.
Pieter C. 5 Report post Posted November 28, 2005 Schiphol is the European Changi. But Schiphol is more spotters friendly than Changi

kandiah k 0 Report post Posted November 29, 2005 The viewing area is really warm and stuffy, MAB is perhaps saving cost and does not encourage people to hang around there too long. The other day while I waswatching the A380 from the viewing area, I noticed a foreigner, perhaps from the South Asia charging his phone to the socket and chit-chatting away while lyign down on the bench. It is so weird that all these are happening and nothing is being done about it. But I believe KLIA can grow provided they tackle the small issues they are facing first such as the taxi touts, a better bus service, cheaper rail tickets for those sending pax off, better and improved customer service and many others which can go on and on. Schipol on the other hand is an excellent airport and is very spotter friendly. Pieter took me to many of the spotting area in and out of the airport area. Such a great airport and colourful too....one of a kind!!!!!!
Sandeep G 1 Report post Posted November 29, 2005 At the same time as improving amenities available at KLIA, I think they need to address security at the airport.. this was in today's paper. Phones worth RM1.6mil stolen at KLIA; Thestar Online (29-11-2005) BY NELSON BENJAMIN JOHOR BARU: Thieves have struck again at the KL International Airport cargo complex, the third time in two months. This time they escaped with RM1.6mil worth of camera phones in broad daylight. The Nokia 7610 mobile phones arrived at KLIA from Hong Kong about noon last Friday, and were to be collected by an agent on the same day. However, when the agent turned up about 6pm, he was shocked to discover half the consignment missing from the warehouse. The manager of the forwarding company lodged a report at the KLIA police station. It is learnt that this is the first time in many years that thieves had successfully escaped with such a large consignment of items in broad daylight. Investigations showed that the items could have been moved using a small pickup or van. In one of the previous cases, thieves drove away with a container laden with some RM4mil worth of LCD monitors on Oct 11. A week later, thieves broke into another warehouse and escaped with 120 mobile phones worth RM130,000. Sepang OCPD Supt Zahidi Ayob confirmed the latest theft and said investigations were under way. A man had been detained in connection with the case, he added. It is learnt that the suspect, in his 30s, is believed to be a worker at the warehouse. A security official said the latest case happened despite additional security measures in place since the two thefts last month. Under the new measures, commercial vehicles, with or without security passes and loads, undergo stringent checks at the entry and exit points by Customs personnel. “We have not had such a large scale theft for many years, not after the police went all out to nab the syndicates operating at the airport. “Even now it is not easy to take anything out of the cargo complex as there are two separate checks, by airport security and Customs,†he said, adding that in the previous two cases, the thefts occurred at night or early in the morning. Both cases remain unsolved.

I had to endure such trouble when I ordered a photographic accessory that was certainly not taxable in Malaysia. All the way from KL, with petrol cost and TOLL cost, for nothing... just because the intellectually-challenged person responsible didn't read the Customs Declaration Form CN22 carefully

Pieter C. 5 Report post Posted November 30, 2005 Nicholas, Casino can only be visited as a passenger, as it's situated AFTER immigration...if you're staying in airport-hotel, you'd better go to either Amsterdam city or Zandvoort (there are casinos there too) ...
