D7 slots - not so soon. But I suppose Airbus can make some adjustments to slot in two or three deliveries in 2017. However, not all of EK's cancelled order has been sold. Based on this, it would appear that AMS and CDG is getting one final chance to be profitable for newco and if things don't work out, the routes will be scrapped. If the A350 is only going to serve LHR, it will be a small order - maybe 4 or 5 frames. BTW there are only 6 B777 operating for newco. Kour 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2015 Malaysia Airlines has settled on the Airbus A350 as a cornerstone of its future fleet, signing a lease agreement for four of the advanced jets to begin flying from late 2017. The A350-900s will be sourced through Air Lease Corporation, in a deal which also sees the Malaysian flag-carrier holding lease options for two more A350-900s as well as two A330-900neo aircraft. leon t 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2015 oh MAS will lease 4 A350-900 from Air Lease Corp to be delivered in 2017 and 2018, and includes options for 2 more A359s and 2 A330-900 neo. dont think SQ traded in the A380s for other aircrafts - as SQ actually ordered think 5 more A380s, to replace its earlier built A380s in the next few years as the first of its A380 is 9 plus years old. This is just a small stop gap order because MH has neglected long term fleet planning in the past. It is also financially prudent to lease the aircraft prior to coming up with a more comprehensive fleet plan later. MH will now need to think of replacements for its B738s and A333s because any order placed now will need a minimum of 3-4 years to the first delivery. It is probably better to continue leasing aircraft for their long haul routes as these are more risky than the short haul and regional routes. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The transaction also includes a lease option for two additional A350-900s and two A330-900neo aircraft. Powered by two Rolls Royce Trent XWB-84 engines, the A350-900 aircraft are from ALC’s order book with Airbus and will be delivered between the fourth quarter of 2017 and the second quarter of 2018. Hopefully the 777x comes into play if we ever expand later. The B777X might be a little redundant, considering that they have just gotten rid of the A380s. I think that as far as getting the lowest cost of operations as measured in CASK, MH will get low cost A330-900s for regional routes and A350-900s for long haul. As for short to medium haul, Boeing 738Max and Airbus A321neos should be considered. A mix of the two might be ideal. Given A350 delivery slot is many years away, MH lease of A359 is not unexpected.
