MAS Privatisation

just to add insult, foreign couple queuing behind me commented the whole experience as "atrocious".....one wonder if this "turnaround" will be successful with blatant disregard to customer service....in flight service was better than before with more smiles and courtesy from the fa though

11 new routes by year's end, maybe 26 more next year

Fleet count to jump 10-20% perhaps ?

When is the chap's KPI score due to be tallied up ? :D

Would be good to see them in Haneda, if they can secure slots. And reinstating Surabaya and Brisbane. Maybe even go back to places like Nagoya, Kunming and Kolkata.

They could also enhance regional flights from secondary hubs, like resuming Penang/KK-Singapore for example.

If they got extra fleet to fly, they will do so. What Bellew said, they are facing shortage of widebody aircraft. So, medium haul route is a no-no as for now. Likely regional expansion.

Bellew mentioned routes ... so need not be new destinations. Could be SIN-BKI, HKG-BKI etc.

It's weird MH doesnt introduces BKI-ICN as Korean carriers are blooming.

BKI-ICN is now entirely dominated by LCCs...not sure if MH can capture higher yielding pax.

Why not BKI-HKG?

Why not BKI-HKG?

Eastar, Jin Air, Air Seoul and Jeju Air amount 7flights a day to Bki in the late night on narrowbody except Jin air which currently uses the b772. Bki-icn vice vesa are entirely arranged by South Korean tour operators. Our Local tour have difficulty allocating certain quota seats on those korean flights as most are filled. Opening or scheduling flights to korea are unsustainable in our local airlines view and only ok for chartered seasonals so most operators would route locals via KUL first on d7. Edited by jahur

was it 2015 when the Domestic GL was last closed ? Added the noodle bar but left out fixing the toilet / showers :p Silver lining was Maggi Cup noodles at B3 which IMHO are much tastier that Noodle Bar offerings.

Since both lounges (and maybe SIN?) are re-opening on the same day, good chance of a new lounge style launch ?

9M-FFD will be leaving soon, with new registration number.

Hint : Argentina operator

It will be Andes Líneas Aéreas, replacing their MD-83 with new jets. They will take another maybe 9M-FFE or 9M-FFF.

Owner of Malaysia Airlines names top execs of 'Project Hope'

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Aviation Group Bhd (MAG), the owner of Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAS), has promoted key personnel to assume top management roles at a new carrier that it is setting up.
The new enterprise, which MAG has identified as Project Hope, is expected to start flying Muslim pilgrims to Mecca by the end of next year.
In an internal memo dated May 9 to MAG staff sighted by StarBiz, MAG chief executive officer (CEO) Peter Bellew said the group had appointed MAS head of charter operations Yazid Mohamed as the new airline’s head of commercial effective May 1.
He is to be joined by Muhammad Najmi Mansor, who is taking the role of chief financial officer in the project, and head of human resources Zuraidah Mat Dol.
“The external search for (Project Hope’s) CEO is under way and the board of directors will be appointed shortly,” Bellew said in the memo.
In the meantime, the current management team at Project Hope will be led by Bellew and MAG chairman Tan Sri Md Nor Yusof.

So is Malaysia Airlines Berhad still MAS or MAB... this is confusing... just as if things are not confusing enough they have Malaysia Airlines Group (MAG) as well...

Malaysia Airlines Berhad is MAB, most official terms used this for company, while people still used to call MAS because of synonym call since its presence. MAG is a big group which MAB, Firefly, Maswings and other subsidiaries lie inside it. Until now, whenever I take Malaysia Airlines flight, I still call it "oh, i'm taking MAS flight today". It's weird to say MAB flight. :pardon:

MAS is still the ICAO code of Malaysia Airlines, so I wouldn't say it's wrong to continue using the term.

MAB is the official legal personality and entity. So if you are saying something officially, MAB is the one we should use for the airline.

MAS is the acronym from its original Malaysian Airline System days. So it can be regarded as a trademark of sorts.

Nobody called it MASB which was the previous legal name. There is no reason to now call it MAB. And the operating entity in both cases still trade under the name Malaysia Airlines. So, one should have just stuck to MAS.
