  1. OT, but FY has been screwing up its schedule not long after it started operations. I'll never forget my experience arriving at KUA only to find the flight (KUA-PEN) was cancelled. This resulted in wasted RM50 taxi from Kuantan town to airport vv on that day, unplanned hotel stay in Kuantan for one night, and missed appointment at PEN. FY will forever be remembered as an unreliable airline in my mind. The management didn't even offer an apology, and the people at its callcenter didn't even try to contact me either via telephone / SMS or email, to inform of the flight's cancellation. I suppose with the current economic slowdown, many will be disappointed with cancellations, retimings etc etc. They'll love Firefly to bits
  2. I almost had this fear after not flying for some time, but fought it head on by buying an air ticket and flew to Penang some days later.
  3. Personally I don't think Dr M is the kind of person who wants to be 'worshipped' with places named after him, unlike a certain someone whose face were on countless banners in KL during the last Federal Territory Day, and (currently) two huge ones spanning the federal highway near Seputeh!
  4. I notice that scanners are in colour. I would imagine that the colour would denote density of whatever material inside a bag. I suppose anything 'explosive' would turn up as a certain colour on the screen and this is what security officers are on a lookout for. Doesn't it work this way?
  5. No doubt security will be tight. There was an article in the papers over the APEC visit where the Secret Service 'took over' security leading to the Bunga Raya complex from local authorities. Cars had mirrors shoved underneath etc (this was also done at KL Hilton at KL Sentral last time I went there!) NatGeo had a documentary on the AF1 where agents with huge binoculars and snipers everywhere followed wherever the commander-in-cheif went. I've met a Secret Service agent once before and he was unassuming person...not the man-in-black type. So someone who is spotting next to spotters (when and if Obama comes) could be one of them!
  6. OT, I once witnessed a passenger checking in at LCC-T, and realising her bag was over 15kg, took out some stuff to make it lighter. The check-in agent politely asked her to rescan her bag and refused to check her in since the security seal sticker has been tampered.
  7. IIRC, VP Al Gore came through KUL for APEC some years back and if I'm not mistaken, The Star did get a picture of 'Air Force 2' on the tarmac. Secretary of State Collin Powelll used SZB (TUDM) the last time he dropped by.
  8. What a ruling. I flew KUL-KBR-KUL countless times on MH in the 1980s without YPTA. My friends do the same as well. No issue then.....until now with this ruling. I wonder what it is all about? I flew to LHR, LAX etc alone, and I was not even 18 yet at that time.
  9. I think this is good, as it prevents theft or someone accidently claiming a lugguage from the carousel, thinking it is his or hers but is actually somebody else's due to similar design / colour etc.
  10. Glad to share guys. These are some of what little I have about MAS. Although some of them were meant to advertise MAS, they are in fact documented history of the airline. Same goes with timetables, magazines etc. Do collect them for the pleasure they give in years to come. Indeed Ashmil. Menu cards, however simple, should continue to be printed. It is so much pleasurable choosing one's meal from browsing through one, and one can get to know what's available for them on board. I have several more from First, Business and Economy class which I have posted some years back (but deleted from photobucket). Faizal, at least the colours then were pleasing to the eyes. I think the old floral patterns on the early B737-200s were much nicer Yes Khaled. Even 40 minutes domestic flights up to the mid 1980s were great in terms of inflight products compared to nowadays. Sandwiches for economy class, nasi lemak or satay for first class. Sometimes meatballs were served. Even the B737-200 washroom oozes class.... pax were provided Elizabeth Arden EDT, moisturizer, little bars of soap, cotton towels in orange or lime colours, little combs in green sleeves. The last I noticed of MAS were Aigner stuff on widebody premium class only. I suppose this still continues. Walter, Kenneth..... how I wish you got to sample MAS during the golden age of air travel. I have fond memories of the good times. Inflight products were much, much nicer indeed. MAS never needed any 5-star award or things like that. Ryan, the spiral staircase was there I'll try to take pics from another coffeetable book and post some other time. It is quite tedious to upload to photobucket one by one. If I try the bulk uploader, the webpage would 'hang'! More later Min. I'll try to dig my old MAS stuff... some under piles of boxes. Certain things now no longer available include matchboxes! Thanks for the info Capt Radzi. She looks very stunning in the kebaya uniform. S. Huang, no lah... not old. As they say, age is just a number
  11. I heard this some 2 years ago when I grumbled to the guy manning the baggage wrapping service about my new bag seriously scratched the first time it passed through KLIA luggage system. BTW, foreign labour is almost everywhere at MTB and LCC-T.... the cleaners, trolley handlers etc etc.....
  12. Happened to me too.....on 2 day of December 2007 still no magazine on an evening TGG-KUL flight. And to think that I flew on MAS that day JUST to complete my Going Places magazine for 2007 was really upsetting. I had imagined that some people were 'going slow' during that period as there was some dissatisfaction with the top management.
  13. Yes Azizul. Normala she is. (for those not familiar, she was a TV3 celebrity, who later married a politician and now Datin Seri Normala) OK, continued... Some of the publications came in this nice folder with the distinctive 'wau' of the past And to wrap things up for now, one final item... a golden club class menu for a special routing. Hope you enjoyed them, a peek from the glorious past of MAS.
  14. To complement MIN's timetable pics and on request for things retro by S Huang, here is a small selection from my archives. Monochrome MAS DC10 brochure. Circa 1978. The 'unique' being the less seats and more crew. Plus the swivel seats. General brochure about MAS. Circa 1977. Guess who is / was the stewardess pictured here One other picture... Flying buffet.....and free flow liquor......hmmm 9M-MHK The building that had to be sold when MAS 'almost' went belly-up Next are from MAS' B747-200 product brochure: The plane Emmm...seronoknya naik MAS What snekbox?? ....and to wash it all down...., and take some home The old Golden Lounge Finally some shots from the book 'Alam Keemasan MAS' or the Golden World of MAS, a publication commemorating 10 years of MAS. I also have a mug to commemorate the occasion, must be somwhere in the cabinet. BTW, another coffeetable book was published some 15 years later called Airborne (but too many pages lah)
  15. I took the reverse routing BKI-LBU-MYY...terminating in KCH. The greatest hassle was everyone had to disembark at MYY for immigration formalities (first point of entry in Sarawak I suppose), and back to the waiting aircraft. I think many passengers were inconvinienced by such as those terminating at KCH can just do it in KCH and those onward to KUL should not be required to go through Sarawak immigration.
  16. Yes I do I have the actual brochure for the MAS DC10 promoting the swivel seats and I'll try to post in a day or two.
  17. Congratulations Khaled! With a bigger plane, you'll be flying further and further to distant lands....
  18. I have some stickers of the wau-shaped MH mothership with B747s flying all around it. Silly concept as planes can't fly in outer space with no oxygen to feed the turbofan engines!
  19. Get one of those Samsonite Oyster hard suitcase. It has silicone 'O' rings all around and should prevent any water seepage in such weather.
  20. Alan, just one question for Eddie..... Is it Firefly's mission to put Air Asia out of business on behalf of its parent, Malaysian Airline System Berhad?
  21. There was an item on the news just now. It was said the Bank Rakyat livery / advertisment on the aircraft will be for a period of 2 years.
  22. Wah, International Airport summore! I thought the former MB was cuckoo.....
