Beginning 16 May 2011, Qantas will start services to Dallas. Operating four return flights a week under QF7 from Sydney, then QF8 from Dallas to Sydney via Brisbane, will be a three-class Boeing 747. Qantas CEO Alan Joyce stated that the new services were part of "an expanded commercial relationship with American Airlines ". However, on 14 May 2011, Qantas will end their flights to San Francisco. The new destination adds 13 new codeshare destinations in the US, and 3 in Mexico, with American Airlines' regional network. To celebrate the launch of the new flights, Qantas offering sale fares to Dallas in Economy and Premium Economy for departures from 16 May 2011 to 30 November 2011. Qantas strike to cause flight cancellations and delays

 

Qantas said more than 6,100 passengers will be affected due to a strike on Tuesday by ground staff.

 

28 flights have been cancelled and 27 flights will be delayed by 35 minutes, the Australian carrier said in a statement.

 

The Transport Workers Union has called a strike for four hours at all major Australian airports during peak period.

 

Qantas is embroiled in a dispute with workers over pay and planned domestic job cuts.

 

"We apologise to our passengers who will be caught up in this strike action from the Transport Workers Union," said Qantas Group Executive Olivia Wirth.

 

The delays could go on for up to two days the airline said.

Cathay Pacific Airways says that it is "satisfied" with the Boeing 747-8 freighters and remains on track to take delivery of its first aircraft in October.

 

Cargolux, the launch customer for the 747-8F, rejected the first two aircraft that had been due for delivery on 19 and 21 September, citing "unresolved contractual issues" with Boeing.

 

"Cathay Pacific's commercial arrangements with all its suppliers, including Boeing, are confidential. However, we are satisfied that our commercial arrangements with Boeing take account of the known and disclosed specification and performance characteristics of the aircraft," said Hong Kong's flag carrier in a statement.

 

The airline added that it is on track to receive the first of 10 747-8Fs that it has ordered.

 

"The news mentioned will not affect Cathay Pacific's own deliveries. We expect to take delivery of our first 747-8F in October this year," said the Oneworld alliance member.

 

Negotiations between Boeing, engine supplier GE Aviation, Cargolux and 35% stakeholder Qatar Airways centre on the freighter's performance targets.

 

However, sources say that the issue also appears to be the compensation to Qatar from Boeing for the delays to its Boeing 787s.

 

Boeing has acknowledged the gap in the 747's performance, saying that the first aircraft would be "somewhat short of initial specifications for fuel burn". However, these are believed to have been known to customers for more than a year.

 

Cargolux, which has 13 747-8Fs on order, said that it has put on hold the financing for the freighters and is prepared to seek alternatives should the negotiations fail.

 

"In the event that the issues cannot be resolved in a timely manner, Cargolux will source alternative capacity to fully meet customer demand and expectations ahead of the traditional high season," said the airline.

 

Cargolux has assembled a new board of directors following the recently completed acquisition by Qatar Airways of a 35% shareholding in the Luxembourg-based freight specialist.

It would be interesting if the Cargolux-Boeing issue remains unresolved for some time and Cathay Pacific Cargo becomes the "First to Fly B748F" by default.

 

At the rate things are not progressing, this seem a more likely scenario with each passing day.

Fabulous...

 

Just curious, I know the concorde is currently on display in NY beside the Hudson, what's actually happened to the rest, because from what I remembered is that they were gotten rid of in 2003. I also understand that there's another in a Mueseum outside London, which I cannot recall off my head, is that the one they're using in the film?

This ad is more like based on milestone and history achievement theme. MH has released one in 2005 to commemorate the National Day. The only difference was BA remade the history while MH was showing the real footage of the history.

American Airlines orders 460 Boeing and Airbus aircraft

 

 

American Airlines has announced multi-billion dollar orders for 460 new Boeing and Airbus planes.

 

The world's fourth-largest airline by number of passengers, American is buying 200 Boeing 737s and 260 Airbus A320 aircraft.

 

American described the twin deals as "the largest aircraft order in history".

 

Its parent company AMR Corporation added that the new single-aisle planes would "transform" American's fleet.

 

The new aircraft will be delivered between 2013 and 2022.

 

'Strong endorsement'

 

Tom Horton says the deal is about American Airlines repositioning itself for future success

AMR chairman Gerard Arpey said American would have "the youngest and most fuel-efficient fleet among our peers in the US industry within five years".

 

He added: "This new fleet will dramatically improve our fuel and operating costs, while enhancing our financial flexibility."

 

The exact financial details of both deals have not been revealed.

 

Europe's Airbus said the American order was a "strong endorsement".

 

Tom Enders, Airbus president and chief executive, said: "We are extremely proud and gratified once again to count American Airlines among Airbus' global customers."

 

Airbus said that the order for 260 planes from its A320 "family" of aircraft would include its A319, A320 and A321 models.

 

Chicago-based Boeing said that American also had an option to buy a further 100 planes.

 

Both Airbus' A320 planes and Boeing's 737s are short to medium-range aircraft. Both hold approximately 200 passengers.

International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG) approved (23-Sep-2011) the acquisition by British Airways of six daily slot pairs at London Heathrow International Airport from bmi British Midland International for an undisclosed sum.

 

IAG stated British Airways will hold 45% of the slots at the airport after the purchase, up from 44%. Iberia also holds 1% of the total slots and bmi held 8.2% of total slots prior to the sale, making it the second largest operator at the airport. The new slots will be used by British Airways from late Oct-2011, on both long- and short-haul services. Three years ago, Continental Airlines reportedly paid GBP136 million for four pairs of slots at the airport.

Indeed, but more readings done after that article indicates that it could also be some point in China or even Hong Kong. So fingers crossed for KUL. Nevertheless, the alliance should do some good to KUL and MH.

Transaero is like coming in and out. I was wondering if they ever needs to reapply the landing right after pulling out.

Probably QF can set up the premium service based in SIN, since there is a better demand in SIN than KUL. However, even SQ is making complains, I suppose the bleeding MH would even complain too if QF chose KUL, not unless QF is shifting its base from SIN to KUL and using MH's existing network in expansion to fulfil the MH's OneWorld's alliance while the premium one would be based in SIN.
