Oman Air to KUL

Recommended Posts

Obviously Gulf Air's loads outta KUL to Muscat must be doing well enough for Oman to consider this expansion. Possibly one of the new carriers MAHB has been talking about?

Oman Air to pursue long-haul expansion

Tuesday December 12, 2006

Oman Air management presented a five-year business plan that includes expansion into long-haul services to its board and the country's Ministry of National Economy, according to CEO Ziad Karim Al-Haremi.

"We're looking to develop a network spanning 42 destinations, of which 11 [would be] long-haul," he told ATWOnline in Kuwait recently, adding that the carrier is aiming to commence its first long-haul flights in fall 2008.

Oman Air plans to introduce three long-haul aircraft into its fleet in 2008 and an additional two in 2009. "We're seeking aircraft with 230/240-seat capacity, which leaves us initially only with the A330 and in a later stage maybe the 787 when it comes," noted Al-Haremi, who was appointed acting CEO in September 2005 and confirmed as permanent CEO in October. According to insiders, the carrier also is considering the 767-300ER or dash 400ER. Its first long-haul aircraft will be leased.

Al-Haremi said long-haul destinations could include London, Paris, Stockholm, Zurich, Milan, Munich, Frankfurt, Kuala Lumpur, Manila and Bangkok for outbound traffic. The airline, in which the Oman government holds a 34% stake, presently operates 10 aircraft: Three 737-700s, three dash 800s and four ATRs. It will phase out two ATRs by the end of 2008. It is scheduled to receive two new 737-800s in May 2007 and March 2008 and recently decided to take in an additional dash 800 next year. "We will lease the latter," he said. "We need it to support our rapid growth."

The carrier recently launched thrice-weekly service from its Muscat hub to Amman. In May it will commence flights to Damascus and Teheran and in June it will add two new points in India and increase frequencies to its existing Indian destinations under a new bilateral between India and Oman.

Oman Air carried 931,753 passengers in the first nine months of the year, up 10% over the previous year, with a load factor of 75%.

Oman Air Boosts Capital To Acquire Planes

March 1, 2007

Oman Aviation Services, which operates Oman Air, approved a measure on Wednesday to nearly quadruple its capital to 50 million rials (USD$129.9 million) to expand operations and acquire new planes.

Oman Air CEO Ziad Karim al-Haremi said the airline will name a consultant to draw up a strategic plan for the airline that will include fleet expansion.

"The additional funds will be used for expanding our operation," Haremi told reporters. "The government wants the airline to be a vehicle to bring in more tourists."

"The ideal plane for our operation is an aircraft with 230-240 seats," he said, without elaborating.

Haremi was speaking after a shareholders' meeting ratified the capital increase from 13.28 million rials through a placement by the Gulf Arab state's government.

Oman's national carrier has said it is planning to operate long-haul routes, necessitating the purchase of wide-bodied aircraft, to expand in a region which is home to some of the world's fastest growing airlines, such as Emirates and Qatar Airways.

Oman Air, which flies to destinations in the Middle East and the Indian sub-continent, is planning to add flights to Lucknow and Jaipur this year.

"Our earlier plan to fly to Tehran and Damascus has been put on hold for the time being," Haremi said.

Oman Air's fleet consists of six Boeing 737s and four ATR 42-500s.

Couldn't those 230-240 seaters be 332's or 772's ???

2 February 2008

MUSCAT — Oman Air will launch direct flights to Kuala Lumpur in May, it has been announced following talks between senior civil aviation officials of the two countries in the Malaysian capital last week. Kuala Lumpur will be the Omani national carrier's second destination in the Far East it introduced service to Bangkok recently.

"Malaysia is an ideal place for family tourism as statistics for the last four months of 2007 show that the number of the Omani holidaymakers who visited Malaysia reached 19,000," Ziyad bin Kareem al Harmi, Oman Air's Chief Executive, said.

He added the airline would launch more new destinations to provide direct access for passengers to cities around the world.

BKK flight is operated by B738 initially at the launching of the route and transfer to B763 sometime in future.

I think KUL would be the same as well.

we would see B738 first and progressively change to B763 when the demand is there.

Oman Air To Fly To 40 Destinations By End 2009

March 3, 2009

State carrier Oman Air will fly to 40 destinations by the end of 2009 after taking delivery of nine new Boeing and Airbus aircraft, its CEO said on Tuesday.

Peter Hill said the airline had already taken delivery of one Boeing 737-800 and would take delivery of four 737-800s and four Airbus A330-300s in the coming months, all as part of previously announced deals.

"Our current fleet is 15, with the new deliveries it will go up to 23 by the end of 2009. With new aircraft we plan to fly to new destinations in Europe and Asia," he said in an interview at an aviation conference in the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

"We were a regional carrier until recently but now we are developing our new route structure. New destinations this year include Paris, Frankfurt, Colombo and Maldives. Next year we plan to add some other destinations such as Kuala Lumpur. But by end 2009, we will fly to 40 destinations," he said.

Oman Air will also receive three A330-300s in 2011 and six B787s in 2012, he said.

The airline is owned 92 percent by the Oman government and 8 percent by prominent investors in Oman. There are no plans to divest any shareholding in the near term, he said.

Oman Air carried 2 million passengers in 2008 compared with 1.6 million passengers the previous year.

"We should be pushing up to 2.3 million or 2.4 million passengers in 2009 simply because we are expanding to new destinations," Hill said.

"No doubt, 2009 will be a tough year but this region is not so badly affected. A lot of the market in Oman is captive because we are the main carrier," he said.

Revenues are expected to rise in 2008 over the previous year, he said, declining to give specific figures.

Cargo business accounts for a meagre 2 percent of the airline's total revenues, he said but is expected to rise to at least 12 percent over the coming five years.

While at the my area mosque today,i've seen a Umrah Package brochure (For the period of 2/05-9/06/2010) by TH Travel & Services; Looks like the flight is operated by Oman Air.

They also have some attractive introductory offer ex-London too. Return LHR-KUL via MCT all in for £408 (RM2,000), with good connections and all sectors operated by A333/A332's. Not insanely cheap but it offers probably the best hard products one can get for travelling between UK and Malaysia - new planes, slimline seat with 34" pitch, 10.4" PTV and mood lighting.

Oman Air Adds Kuala Lumpur To Expanding Network

April 12, 2010 12:16 PM By Muin Abdul Majid

DUBAI, April 12 (Bernama) -- Oman Air, the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, will begin flying to Kuala Lumpur on May 1, with four weekly flights between Muscat and the Malaysian capital.

Kuala Lumpur will be the airline's 33rd destination and the second in the Far East, the other being Bangkok.

"This new destination will be a welcome addition to the ever-expanding Oman Air network. Kuala Lumpur has been a much-anticipated destination," said Oman Air chief executive officer Peter Hill in a statement.

Hill said he was positive that Malaysia would be a real winner with customers.

"This beautiful country, which seamlessly weaves in the true wonders of Asia, is as diverse geographically as it is culturally.

"Known to provide the perfect getaway for those who want to have a complete change of scenery, one can have a holiday of their lifetime by exploring the many splendours of Malaysia," he said of Oman Air's latest destination.

The airline boss said holidays in Malaysia would introduce Oman Air customers to what he described as "a fantastic travel and holiday experience".

The new route will be operated by Oman Air's recently introduced Airbus A330 aircraft featuring First, Business and Economy class seating.

Also in May, the airline will begin operations to four other destinations, namely Ras Al Khaimah and Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates, as well as Islamabad and Lahore in Pakistan.
