*cabin PA buzz to life*

Capt: "Okay folks, we are lost. I cant find the way to our parking bay. FYI we are now parked in from of this building that as big word printing MASKargo... whatever that means. I have run out of fuel, so we cannot taxi. Becoz of that, we have lost all electrical power, so no air-cond, and naturally, comms are down. Will someone from Malaysia do me a favor; fire up ur handphone, call ur local telco's phone directory and ask for the number of the control tower. Then call the tower, ask them to call me at +xxx-xxxx-xxxx. In the mean time, cabin crew please disarm and open all doors, it's going to get 'bit stuffy here... captain out"

wow, weird taxi. He must be lost!

anyways, is it normal that planes have their spoilers on during taxi? or did the pilot totally forget about it

Maybe the pilot kena marah(got some scolding) from the co-pilot for some mistake, so he kelam-kabut (messed up) after that and that resulted in the weird taxi......ok that was meant to be a silly joke......but does this happen a lot ?

Is it because the navigation system is out ?

Simple explaination: Unlike other airports in the world where they will tell you the taxiways, (take Charlie 5, Charlie, turn right to Golf, Left for Foxtrot 6, continue to Alpha 11) KLIA will give codes to the pilots (32 Left Mike Whiskey for bay Alpha 11). Pilots will have to look at the chart to decipher those, then at the taxi chart for the taxiway. As if the pilots got nothing else to do. Captain has to concentrate on taxiing; the copilot will be the navigator on ground as well as doing the after-landing checklist (spoilers down, flaps up, APU start etc.)

Best place to taxi: SIN at night. "Follow the green for Foxtrot 30".

And here is part of the "decipher charts" as mentioned by Capt. Radzi

So not-so-familiar-with-klia pilots will have to listen to the Coded Taxi Routes, decipher it by looking into this chart, take out and study another chart (shown by Pak Brahim above), look at the signboards and taxi through... tongue.gif

But for familiar-with-klia pilots aka locals... they will request "Non-Standard".. laugh.gif laugh.gif

a coded taxi instruction will save "air time" on the radio.

Example...

ATC talk to Pilot...

"...malaysian 53, taxi to bay Charlie 12 via delta, golf, sierra eight.."

if it be coded, like KUL..taxi to Charlie 12 via 32L sierra november.

BUT...we local at KUL also get loss!!! So preparation before descend, we call company frequency and ask for Bay number, then we will be prepared for what taxiway to be use and then plan the coded taxi instruction and which exit to take from the runway.

one pilot should do....write it down, because when we want to read back all the taxi instruction...at least we have something to expect.

Singapore is the "best" to taxi at night....ATC says..."...follow the green for Foxtrot 30...."....

What the ground controller does is...light up the green taxi light for us to follow....and that's it!!!!!!!!!!!!...so we pilot just follow la....

They save the light bulbs...while KLIA dont pay TNB...no wonder they always say they loss money!!!!

Is this all the reason why sometimes airliners get lost in KLIA. I remember a Lufhansa A340600 got confused once. And also a Saudia B747 ditched into a 'longkang' once.
