BKI Spotting V2

Recommended Posts

I was at the carpark in front of Bay A2.

It was an awesome sight! With Jetstar's silver color fuselage, waterspray, and the sunlight bouncing off it..

BUT as I started to point my 'bazooka' I was stopped by the police.... threatened to confisticate my camera... arguing & threatening me 'undang-undang' blah blah blah.... ###%$##@!!!!!

In the end... I got nothing :cray:

urggh  ...if only the police understand, let alone understand the fun fact of plane spotting...what aircraft type did Jetstar deployed?...

Was mislead by Flightstats.com that Tiger Airways would show up at 11:30am. So went to Jalan Bunga Raya near the new tower to try and catch Tiger Show. Of course it didn't show up so here are some shots during that high-noon spotting.

Sorry guys,

I did not bring my camera (those cheap camera) with me or else I get the shot for all of you.

I manage to see Jestar approching runway from KKIA T1 (in front of Golden Lounge) and looking at the VIPs arriving (level 2) by Jestar, view from level 3 (same level as Golden Lounge) watching them.

Andi, you should bring me along with you or you should let me use your heavy camera. hehehehe

I am glad they did not shot you or else....I'm gonna miss you. hahahaha.

:drinks: :drinks: for Andi

Waiping,

Could it be you snapped Steve flying the S-92 there ?! :)

Don't know woh, but the B737 pilot looks happy enough. :p

Anyway, afternoon was all about catching the inaugural 3K flight from SIN-city. I took a gamble and headed towards the RSTC clubhouse instead of 3rd beach because there was another B777 expected at the same time. Normally wide-bodies would request runway 20 and that would set up the shot nicely. But alas, forgot I haven't been winning whenever I gamble lately. :(

At 15:43.51 flight 3K-525 touchdown.

Welcome to BKI, 9V-JSB

After that Louis and I headed for beach 3 to catch the take-off.

The weather was slowly starting to get ugly. During the landing it was really hot. I remember I almost burnt my feet when standing on the roof of my car. Then as we walk toward the end of the runway storm cloud started to gather around the airport.

9M-MKF landing under heavy crosswind.

9M-AHI. This guys probably curse like mad since the A330 took a long time to clear runway.

IMG_0783.jpg

At about 4:20 it started to drizzle so we thought maybe we should move, since we didn't bring umbrella. Managed to reach my car 30% soaked wet, partially from rain and partially from sea water. Oh, ya, got severe crosswind also.

By the time we reach our cars and drove out the storm subsided. I thought, hey this is like we are in the eye of the storm where everything just quiet down before the big one comes. Anyway, we wait not for the storm, but for the Jetstar to depart.

At 16:54 9V-JSB took off back to SIN-city as 3K-526

After that went back and wash my car. :p

Lovely shots there Waiping... well done! :clapping:

(I think next time I'll shoot A2 tarmac actions from level 2 of MAS Admin office)

I've also discovered an excellent place to spot 02 take-offs & 20 landings.... on the top level car park of Plaza Tg Aru

Wow - look in the background - old part of BKI T1 reduced to her skeletal remnants !

Can't help but speculate it may be more efficient and/or cheaper to demolish everything and rebuild from the ground up

'Lou Lee'

Is that the portion you said Sabah state govt is forking out the RM for ?

Thanks for the Jetstar inaugural flight tip-off and the new spotting location, Andi. I'll give it try maybe next week. hopefully can get a clearer view of flight coming in from Sutera Harbor. At RSTC there it was obstructed by big trees and you have maybe seconds to react.

Hit and miss loh. Maybe when you are back we can try some other locations. Anyway, opposite T1 is still the best. Just need umbrella only.

I will be arriving in BKI next Thursday (11 Dec on MH638). I will be glad for tips on how to drive to the runway's edge to capture these wonderful shots I have seen on this forum so far. After all... this is one of the MAIN reasons why I am making this trip to Kota Kinabalu!

PRAY PRAY PRAY the monsoon will be kind to me...

Speaking of fond memory...

Since we are close to another century of BKI spotting thread I thought I re-read the pass 100 pages and see if I have miss anything.

By the way, copyright Ewan.
