  2. Indeed! Its my first J on SQ, and on a redemption some more (but it was a conscious decision)! Was praying so very hard for a equipment change everyday but guess I had to start from their ancient Ultimo seat first, to fully appreciate their other products...

  4. According to the website, the automated gate can also be used by travellers whose fingerprints had been registered by (Immigration and Checkpoint Authority) ICA upon entry to Singapore. Also the disembarkation card will not need to be collected. Theres also the human manned counters if you opt to use them. The automated gates at T4 is a new set up and took me a few seconds to figure things out as Im too used to the old ones. And now theres no officers to check your boarding pass before you enter airside! (Previously theres two rounds of boarding pass/passport checks) In fact no human contact at all from collecting boarding pass (I never deposit luggage) to boarding, expect one AK staff who was there to ensure we are queueing up in the correct lane during boarding. Overall a pleasant and efficient experience for me.
  5. Mine too And changed to a lousy seat.. Double checked with EF, row 1 are now blocked.
  6. The numbers correspond to the day i.e. 1=Mon, 2=Tue, ... 7=Sun and X=not operating So 7=Operates on Sunday only while x7=Not operating on Sunday (and thus implying operating on all other days i.e. Mon to Sat) Therefore it's still 7 flights per week, just slight change in schedule on Sunday's flight departing KUL and hence resulting in the slight change of timing for Monday's flight departing AKL
  7. It'll take effect in June. I'm flying this route next next week - looking forward to it (:
  8. I once booked my BA flight via OTA while I'm still a Enrich Silver and had qualified for Enrich Gold five months before my travel with BA. But when checking in at ORY, the system was unable to register me as OWS, it kept showing OWR. Agents in LHR was unable to change my OWR to OWS either. However, no issues with lounge access or priority boarding when I showed them my Enrich Gold card, both in ORY and LHR. I was also able to use the priority security in LHR by just scanning my BP. This happened last May and seems like this glitch is still not fixed...
  9. May I check how many elite sectors will you earn if you fly Premium Economy, say on CX? I would think it's 1 elite sector for PE, just like Y but would like to double confirm here.

  12. My few ex-KUL all had this new boarding sequence (by seat position) announcement, but the agent checking boarding pass simply let everyone through and not enforcing the sequence as announced. Every single time. As for the service, my few KUL-KCH vv flights in Oct all had this new meal service - first round they serve food only, second round they clear the trays and serve drinks and no dessert on this route. But there were still three crews serving Y iirc back in Oct. I quite like this new meal service, esp when I'm sitting at the emex row, and usually had to wait for quite a while before the meal cart reach me if they serve meal and drinks together. With this new service, meal will reach me faster, followed by drinks later. Service did not take up a long time, just nice IMO. Also to note, for SIN-KUL vv, they are using meal cart to serve peanuts, at times ice cream (esp on evening flight exKUL), and pre-packed orange juice (like SQ/MI). I think I'm too clumsy cause I tend to spill the orange juice when opening it. :X
  13. MH had always been very inconsistent about distributing menu in J, based on my limited experience with them. Since crew had a copy of menu, I think likely menu is available, just that crew did not want/bother to distribute it to pax? Also, the alcoholic beverages are not listed together with the food menu, it is in a separate booklet (if my memory serves me right). Based on the blog post, the writer did not seem to ask if there's alcoholic beverages available, and just assume that is it no available since it's not printed on the food menu? "Next thing was that printed menus were no longer distributed, only one menu was available which was kept by the crew. I had a look at it and it didnt feature any alcoholic beverages whatsoever. Since I was tired from the night before I didnt bother to eat or drink anything on board except the signature satay and sparkling water. John wrote about MHs elimination of alcohol on shorter flights back in February (see here). The Taipei flight is scheduled with 4:40h though and always had drinks before which is why I was surprised."
  14. My Victorinox once made it through security in TPE and arrived in KUL for a transit too. I'm quite thankful I realised its existence while in the lounge. Went to the transfer desk to see if they can help but they are not helpful at all, and even advised against me going out landside to check it in. I still have 1 hour 15 mins before the next flight to go so I dashed out, went through (the empty) immigration, up to (the empty) departure to have it checked in in my backpack then went through security and immigration again to go back air side. All these done in 20 minutes including having to change some MYR and get my backpack wrapped as I do not have extra padlock, and I still have some time to grab another bowl of laksa before the next flight. For once I'm quite grateful of the efficiency (and emptiness) of KUL.
  15. Yes a devaluation indeed. I'll just save the miles and redeem on oneworld/partner airlines instead, which will cost less miles than MH and provides better product (in the zone and class that I'm eyeing).
  16. Saw this in the email sent by Enrich today. "Greater redemption rewards are coming your way exclusively as an Enrich member! Effective 1 August 2016, our 15% online redemption will no longer be applicable as we have bigger and better rewards especially in store for you. Stay tuned for an even greater and enriching travel and lifestyle experience." Link to the FAQ, dated 19 Jul. Seems like the 15% off online redemption will be discontinued wef 1 Aug 2016. Shall I redeem my miles now or shall I wait for the 'greater redemption awards'?
  17. Malaysia Airlines' CEO To Work For Emirates "On one hand we should respect that he quit for personal reasons. At the same time thats almost always the reason executives give for leaving companies. For what its worth, I have a friend very close to the situation who said the reason he quit was because he could no longer handle handle the culture of corruption at the airline, and that so much of the rest of the management wasnt actually interested in improving things. Some of you may recall that Malaysia brought a 747 back into service, which apparently was a last straw for him, as that entire decision was made without consulting him." The new direct route will see the airline's factory-fresh Airbus A350 jet pressed into service on a flight estimated to take some 16 hours, although there's currently no start date for the inaugural non-stop service. 20. I suppose when you can earn elite miles, you'll earn elite sectors too? MH has the tendency not to spell this out but it's an important info for me since I obtained my Enrich Gold by sectors run.
  21. United Airlines to launch nonstop flight between Singapore and San Francisco SINGAPORE: United Airlines will introduce daily nonstop flights between Singapore’s Changi Airport and its San Francisco International Airport hub, it announced on Friday (Jan 29). This will be the first nonstop service between Singapore and San Francisco and the only one to the US from Singapore. The Boeing 787-9 aircraft will be used for this nonstop service, it added. Flying times will be approximately 15 hours, 30 minutes eastbound and 16 hours, 20 minutes westbound, saving customers up to four hours' journey time each way from previously available flights, the airline said. 22. Yes KCH custom officers are also very good at this. They screened by bags every single time when its was a tag without orange stripes. My not-very-pleasant experience with the customs was probably during one of the CNY period few years ago, where there's a long queue for the screening machine. To ease the waiting time and queue, they randomly selected a few 'unfortunately ones' and requested us to open our bags to be checked. Don't really enjoying this experience as I have to open my (messy) luggage in front of a lot of other passengers in the public. Thought they'll usually only ask you to open your bags if they see something 'suspicious' from the machine...
  23. Agree totally! I really much prefer MH's kebaya to SQ's kebaya. I always thought that MH's cabin crew uniform is MH's best feature/aspect. Hope it won't be changing for the worst.

  25. I'm booked on MH386 end of Sept. Seems like my 1 hr 40 mins transit will become a 9 hours transit. Will the lounge be comfortable enough for the night? Or shall I start planning for my hotel. Or better still will MH provide me a free night at a hotel since they change the schedule *wishful thinking* (: And there goes my chance of sampling MH's 772's J class
