  3. SIA 05 June 2008 From 30 June 2008, Singapore Airlines male cabin crew will take on a fresh look, wearing a new uniform, which will complement the legendary sarong kebaya worn by the Airline’s female cabin crew. The new male cabin crew uniform is the creation of veteran French fashion designer Christophe Galibert, artistic Director of Balmain Uniformes. The fashion house was appointed for the redesign of the uniform in 2006. Mr Galibert has also worked with the designer of the sarong kebaya, Mr Pierre Balmain, for more than 25 years. Said Mr Galibert: “The entire Balmain team was thrilled to embark on the mission of designing the Singapore Airlines male cabin crew uniform and bringing to it our own international touch. “In designing this new look, our main aim was to retain the legendary elegance of the Singapore Airlines male cabin crew but at the same time make it more consistent with the iconic creation of Mr Pierre Balmain’s sarong kebaya. Our challenge was, therefore, to find a matching smartness and unique sophistication for the male crew uniform.” The new uniform comprises a single-breasted navy blue suit (jacket and trousers), sky blue shirt and striped tie. The tie colour differentiates the four ranks of crew. SUIT – The navy blue jacket and trousers complement the colour worn by the majority of the female crew on board (blue). SIA SHIRT – The skyblue shirt blends in beautifully with the navy blue jacket and aptly reflects the colour of the sky. TIE – The tie colour is the differentiating factor among the ranks and closely follows the kebaya colours of the female crew. In addition, the various colours of the stripes on each tie were carefully designed by Balmain to match the fine details of the sarong kebaya print. Blue – Flight Steward Green – Leading Steward Red – Chief Steward Purple – Inflight Supervisor Said Mr Tan Pee Teck, Senior Vice President Cabin Crew, “The new uniform projects a smart and professional image and will instill a sense of pride in the crew. This is even more so since many of our crew members were themselves actively involved in the selection and fine-tuning of the design concept and colour scheme of the uniform.” Note to Editors: * The current male crew uniform was designed by Lanvin in 1991. * Singapore Airlines currently employs 7,375 cabin crew members, of which almost 40% are male. * A selection of digital images is available from Singapore Airlines Public Affairs. When will MAS steward change their green uniform? Even the MasCharters has better steward uniform

  16. From Bangkok Post Thailand has deported a man who pulled out a small knife and caused a Bangladesh airliner to be diverted to Bangkok on Tuesday morning. Haran Rashid Hassan Ali, 25, was placed aboard another flight to Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon by Thai authorities. Ali was forcibly removed from a GMG Airlines aircraft on Tuesday morning after the pilot radioed that he had an emergency situation and landed at the old Don Muang airport north of Bangkok. Two fighter jets from the Royal Thai Air Force scrambled, and escorted the plane to land at the airport, which also is the air force headquarters. Airports of Thailand President AM Chana U-Sathaporn said he believed Ali had a mental disorder, but said Thailand could not lay any charges against him because had not harmed anyone aboard the flight from Malaysia to Bangladesh. It is not known how he got the knife through Malaysian airport security. AM Chana described the weapon as a small fruit knife. Reports said that Ali struggled with several fellow passengers and crew members before the pilot landed at Bangkok, but that there were no injuries. Other reports said there was a panic aboard the plane, which spent several hours at Don Muang before it departed with all the passengers except Ali. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Earlier report: (BangkokPost.com) - An unruly man with a small fruit knife scuffled with crew and passengers aboard a Bangladesh airliner flying from Malaysia on Tuesday, forcing the pilot to land in Bangkok to have the man removed. Two fighter jets from the Royal Thai Air Force scrambled, and escorted the plane to land at the airport, which also is the air force headquarters. Airports of Thailand President AM Chana U-Sathaporn dismissed earlier reports from his office that the emergency landing of the Bangladeshi passenger plane was a hijack. AM Chana said the landing was made after a 25-year-old Bangladeshi man took out a knife while GMG Airlines Flight 42 was over Thailand while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Dhaka. No one was harmed. "There were 60 passengers on the flight. It landed after an unruly passenger named Hassan Ali took out a small knife," he said. AM Chana added that the pilot requested an emergency landing to prevent further violence. The emergency landing was made at Don Mueang Airport at 9.30am Tuesday. The man was then detained by the Thai police, who inspected his belongings and found no suspicious objects. Airport authorities did not file any charges against him because he did not hurt any passengers. GMG Flight Z5042 left for Dhaka without Ali.
