  1. They are A380s.. Glitches are quite Ops normal
  2. Not a "fiery" accident, but tragic nonetheless. And the line pertaining to the F/O being left "isolated and under stress.. without family" is untrue. Speedy recovery to all!
  3. Very sad occasion, but excellent coverage chaps! Just realized - no use of reverse thrust on landing? Smooth gentle braking as part of a broader respect for the departed souls or operational requirement?
  4. Hehe think u mean "Thrust," Leon
  5. The sound of the GE90 is the unadulterated sound of pure engine muscle - as cabin rattling as it may be - it certainly does evoke a sense of prowess. Airbus hydraulic wind-down post shutdown is one of the most irritating sounds about - so to are the clunking noises made whenever toe-brakes are applied.
  6. I think they buried the toxic substance - not the airplane..
  7. That picture of the cockpit window is definitive evidence that a missile (from whatever origins) was used to down MH17 - Note that the shrapnel appears to have pierced from the outside.. Additionally, have recently learned that the SA-11 would have taken approx 10 seconds to reach a target at 33,000 ft and would typically explode ahead of the target.
  8. With a 787 they could seriously consider KUL-PER, KUL-MEL and even KUL-AKL given that BA/QF are estranging further and further each day, if not for the saving grace that is oneworld.
  9. Still quite serious.. Aircraft will certainly be AOGed and engine seems to have ingested grass/mud etc
  10. Was in MNL the whole of last week. The Presidential Sea Kings (Marine 1) and 4 V-22 Osprey Aircraft were conducting training in an around Metro Manila. He will be using these to beat the traffic! Most awesome sight was the landing made by the five aircraft on runway 13 at RPLL.. Watching the V-22's transition from horizontal to vertical flight was simply breath-taking!
  11. SQ321 diverting KUL now guys😉 ETA 1821 9V-SKR
  12. Vietnam also from France.. Logic would be to buy the Thales system for regional integration under the planned ASEAN regional airspace management program. More to it, are they hand-in-hand upgrading the infrastructure in for Kinabalu FIR as well?
  13. Arthur - point 1 and 2 of yours are merge-able Sell A380 to Boeing to trade for B748i. But they'll be "sidelined" by Airbus for years to come!!!!
  14. Hahaha The A380 in general is having more than just teething problems - it is a growing pain! No amount of dentistry seems to do the trick - new problems crop up every few months! System wise - it is a beautiful plane.. when it all works.
  15. I wonder which livery she will adorn? Great to see the Queen fly again!!
  16. Maybe giving way for the inevitable Virgin Australia expansion.. We'll see if any orders are placed in Singapore - rumors are rife!
  17. Chaity - The brakes on NE (if my eyes are correct) are dirtier than those on ND!
  18. This airport has been between 95-98% complete for months! Just say lah... "Nearly there!"
  19. Point of contention is the MRO deal turnabout.. Lion was supposed to send its entire fleet to SZB.. Airod was supposed to expand it's operations and capability... Now also, AirAsia has moved out of Indonesia and may have re-engaged its strong relationship with the Government.. plus EADS has moved into SAE... perhaps there is debate over where the Lion A320 fleet will be maintained
  20. Another "software" glitch/problem.... Me thinks simple mechanical (albeit weighty) are more robust and reliable.
  21. Yes they do. The Boeing 777 Main Gear aft (third) axle also pivots up to augment turning radii of the airplane during tight/large turns. It is a system known as "Main Gear Steering".
  22. Don't forget, the airline has belly cargo revenue to consider - and whilst passenger load capacity is important, so is belly space. The A330/788 options mean a trade off between the two, whereas the 777/A350 option may yield a balanced solution as well as paving the way for future network expansion..
  23. They were probably tight on space at the present LCCT offices, and we're initially constrained in size for their new office complex under construction at the KLIA2.. Plus they were looking at buying out Batavia and building the Indonesian ops (the largest market in SEA) and even listing on the Jakarta Stock exchange... After the Malindo introduction, they probably want to safeguard what they have invested in Malaysia - although rumors are aplenty that NADI is not satisfied with a decision to consolidate lion MRO activities in Batam as oppose to expanding Airod at SZB which was on the JV wishlist. I'd imagine AirAsia has more to gain from the KL base than anywhere else!
  24. New ATC centre is much needed and welcomed! Investment in new technology that is hopefully reliable and easily integrated with neighboring states is essential. Current Italian ATC system is rubbish - should go for the Thales system!! Any timeline for this project??
  25. Apologies, noted an error with my earlier post. ADS-B is Broadcast and ADS-C is Contract.. Not modes - those are for transponders
