A few more updates:

BOM will see frequency reduced from 14 to 10 weekly flights (MH186/187 canceled. This makes more sense than the 17 weekly flights given the 333 up-gauge and bilateral cap):

MH174 KUL0925 - 1155BOM 738 356

MH194 KUL2000 - 2225BOM 333 x36

MH194 KUL2000 - 2225BOM 333 36

MH175 BOM1305 - 2050KUL 738 356

MH195 BOM2325 - 0705+1KUL 333 x36

MH195 BOM2325 - 0705+1KUL 738 36

KTM will see the resumption of the second daily flight (MH170/171):

MH170 KUL0855 - 1120KTM 738 D

MH114 KUL1945 - 2230KTM 738 D

MH171 KTM1220 - 1920KUL 738 D

MH115 KTM2330 - 0630+1KUL 738 D

TPE will see the resumption of red-eye ex-KUL and morning departure ex-TPE with 4 new weekly flights:

MH408 KUL0010 - 0500TPE 738 x136

MH409 TPE0800 - 1255KUL 738 x136

Perth goes back to double daily B738 flights I believe.

Be interesting in summer for the arvo flights when temps are in excess of 40oC, at least OD can put on B739ER's.

Does the 739er have a longer range than the 738? I was under the impression that 738 flies the furthest...

The 900ER flies further think the difference is somewhere between 300-400kms with obviously a higher playload.

I also believe that OD's B739ER's have a higher thrust output than their B738's...26kN vs 27-28kN I think. That said I don't think all their B738's have the same thrust output. I believe this is the reason B739ER's operate KTM flights.

Problem with the arvo PER flight is the high ambient temps this affects and reduces the thrust output. B738's operate payload restricted when its 40+ degrees. A full B738 flight and baggage needs to be offloaded.

738 flies further than 739. True, OD 739 rated at 26k thrust while 738 at 24k. Fuel tank capacity is exactly the same. The only advantage for 739 is that it can take more load for flights that is not range critical.

OD's furthest scheduled destination which is LHE can be both covered by 738 and 739. I believe world's longest scheduled flight for 738/739 is flydubai's DXB-BKK or Norwegian's.

Plus, contrary to popular's belief ER does not stand for extended range.

If talking 737 in general, the longest is LH768 [FRA-PNQ] at 8 hours. For 738, that honour goes to Copa flight 284 for 7.5 hours, and for 739 is Turkish flight 589 for 7 hours.

Boeing try to market it as a b757 replacement but the 900er were only useful for the added row of seats and payload over the 738. The long extended fuselage and shorter landing gear were always a performance obstacle also takes runway length on mtow hot weather like mad. Also higher rated engine to compensate the performance drop to perform nearly like the 738 burns slightly more fuel. Same issue on the A321 except higher gear and better engines still feel its an underpowered plane that airlines loved to use nowadays over the a330-200.

I can't stand more than 3hrs on a narrow body because usually I'll get up and stretch myself after 2hrs plus. Can't imagine being stuck in a narrowbody tube for more than that.

Narrowbody also got aisle what....

We are getting soft! There was a time, in the 1960's, when people took B737 charter flights from Sg Besi airport to London!

do note the airline industry seat pitch and width has been reduced by an average 2.5inch in 40years.

I doubt the 731 and 732s of those days fly 5-6 hrs nonstop.

Yes, that was why they had to make multiple stops. And the journey took considerably longer!
