AirAsia Group/AirAsia X Group Service Changes

Maybe they should re-look into AKL? Better chance of filling that up than HNL I suspect.

AirAsia X To Fly To Hawaii, 'Exclusive' Destination In Europe By December

KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 (Bernama) -- AirAsia X Bhd, the leading long-haul low-fare airline, aims to spread its wings to Hawaii and an 'exclusive' destination in Europe by December, Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Datuk Kamarudin Meranun said.

He said AirAsia X was in the midst of working out an arrangement with a feeder airline in Europe on the 'exclusive' route.

"The key thing for us is to find a destination where we can also link with a good feeder airline," he told reporters at the launch of Wisma Tune here today.

AirAsia X hopes to benefit from the feeder airline that would bring in travellers from destinations not served by large carriers to hub airports for onward journeys on national and international airlines.

The airline previously operated Airbus A340s to London and Paris, but cancelled them in 2012.

As for the Hawaii route, AirAsia Group CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes was reported as saying in February that AirAsia X had started the application process to fly to Hawaii.

On financial performance, AirAsia X recorded a higher pre-tax loss of RM605.18 million last year compared with a pre-tax loss of RM212.06 million in 2013 due to higher operating expenses of RM3.32 billion for 2014, up 33.9 per cent year-on-year.

Moving forward, Kamarudin said the AirAsia X's prospects looked promising based on initial indications such as higher bookings and yields.

"AirAsia X is no different from AirAsia because when we started AirAsia, we did not have the money and we faced competitions from stronger and financially stable airlines in the region.

"AirAsia X is facing some problems now, but its shareholders are in a much better position and the competitors are not as strong as they used to be, so there is no reason why we cannot turn the company into profitability," he added.

AirAsia X plans to start four weekly flights between Kuala Lumpur and Honolulu on Nov. 1, according to a regulatory filing published Monday, with a refueling stop in Osaka.

Expect Jetstar to fight tooth and nail on this. Honolulu is one of their biggest market.

It would be a good move to route via KIX - they can tap the Japan-Hawaii market.

By adding 4 flights to the KUL-KIX sector, they are also increasing frequency to KIX.

Finally, if Airasia Japan makes KIX its main hub, the two carriers will provide feed for each other.

But I still doubt the viability of KUL-HNL - it will be a long, long flight and (as some have already said) the cost of the US visa might exceed the cost of the flight!

Everyone knows Hawaii. But, is Hawaii a popular destination (leisure and business) for ASEAN residents (though you can fly direct from Manila to Honolulu)? Perhaps, starting from North East Asia is a better strategy.

I saw this comment on a.net.

This route is more of an add-on to the KIX station rather than just one full flight from here. So the effect is that D7 is introducing a KIX-HNL flight rather than just a KUL-HNL flight.

And that is where the money can come in.

Will D7 have traffic rights KIX-HNL vv ?

Only 'refueling stop in Osaka' mentioned above

I'm sure it'll involve a crew change also.

The Malaysia-listed AirAsia X Group submitted an application with the US DoT on 6-Apr-2015 to operate four weekly flights from Kuala Lumpur to Honolulu via Osaka Kansai starting 1-Nov-2015. The group will use fifth freedom traffic rights available to Malaysian carriers between Japan and the US. Malaysia Airlines (MAS) used some of these rights until Apr-2014, when it dropped its four times weekly service to Los Angeles via Tokyo Narita.

For Pattaya AK will use UTP. Made famous by being the main international gateway following the closure of BKK by mobs in 2008. There are not many airlines serving UTP. Most of them are only charters. Hopefully they can maintain the route

Maybe this is the FIRST route that exceeds 4 hours by AK, I thought D7 is going to do the job.

Nevertheless, 3 new routes in a fortnight is just a wow...

From MH's perspective, been there done that (for quite a sustained period of time)

That is not to say if it was commercially viable to have it sustained, we do not and probably will never know :)

It is seemingly apparent though that AK's BKI growth plans has ground to a near/complete halt whilst JHB seem to be the focus of attention currently
