MAS New Boeing 737-800s with Sky Interior

This is the new 737 NG cabin layout and launch cumstomers will include flydubai and Malaysia air.

Also its gets an updated engine and wider cabin. The seat selection will be up to the customer however.

Very nice.

 

Can you explain the "wider cabin"? Thinner wall panels?

 

(And if MH messes up the seats again when it lets its accountants make all the decisions, suffering pax can just stare at the beautiful ceiling and mood lighting.)

The news from seattle is that those will be the lauch customers. I hope MH doesnt go cost cutting and say thaey dont need all that!!!!!!

 

MH tends to fly their 737's half way around the world (China, Taipei, Australia) and hence that cabin will be a nice welcome and change. Half the job for MH has been done by boeing. Now all we need is some nice AVOD system seats.

 

MH will be a winner.

 

 

wider cabin in the sense that the overhead bin are swooped upwards like 777.

Very nice and innovative. I especially like the B777 style overhead compartments. For those of you who have flown on the B737-200 will remember that the overhead compartments were the same kind of pull down type, only a lot smaller! It could basically fit only one briefcase only! The mood lighting and ceiling design is superb for a narrow body aircraft.

 

I hope that MH will not do a Lionair, which launch the B737-900ER with the most uncomfortable PVC covered seats in the world making that superb plane look cheap!

As not to do a Lion air job, maybe they can follow SQ as having configured their 777's into two types of cabin product, long haul and meduim haul.

 

With 55 planes on order, MH can have some for domestic use with out PTV's and others for international with PTVs.

I agree, an example is JetAirways which has different config for their B737-800 which operate international and domestic sectors.

Not impressed with the economy seats. Doesn't look sophisticated.

 

Boeing has clearly stated that the choice of seats is up to the customer. Hence those are not the actual seats.

It's not the seats which are being publicised here. It is the design of the ceiling, storage bins, overhead and wall panels. And I suspect the so-called "reveal" windows are ala the 380: bigger openings inside compared to the smaller actual structural windows - giving the impression of a larger window.

The colours in the seats look so ugly and more 70's. Hope MH can be more creative. :yahoo:

 

Oh no, not the smarties again. Personally while the vibrant colors are "vibrant" I would prefer a softer color that is more relaxing.

 

Btw, anyone notice there is no partition between business class and economy, although the seats are bigger with on 2 per row each side.

With only seventeen 772 in operation, it might not be wise to have multiple seat configuration as it's not cost effective. SIA has 3 different seat configurations for their 772, by the way.

 

 

With 55 planes on order, MH can have some for domestic use with out PTV's and others for international with PTVs.

To compete more competitive with its main rival, Air Asia on the domestic sector, it'd be great if MAS can offer PTV in all classes on their 738.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 (Bernama) -- Boeing announced that seven airlines will be the first to incorporate the new, spacious 737 Boeing Sky Interior starting in late 2010, which features soft, blue-sky-like lighting overhead.

 

The airlines are FlyDubai (Dubai, United Arab Emirates), Continental Airlines (Houston), Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA (Fornebu, Norway), Malaysia Airlines (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), TUI Travel PLC (London), GOL Airlines (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Lion Air (Jakarta, Indonesia).

 

In a statement from Seattle Tuesday, Boeing said the 787 Style in the World's Leading Single-Aisle Airplane Drawing from years of research was used to design the interior for the 787 Dreamliner.

 

The 737 Boeing Sky Interior features new, 787-style modern sculpted sidewalls and window reveals that draw passengers' eyes to the airplane's windows, giving passengers a greater connection to the flying experience, it said.

 

On a more practical note, the sidewall design integrates the air vent so that before-flight security checks go more quickly for maintenance staff.

 

The new design offers larger, pivoting overhead stowage bins that add to the openness of the cabin. The bins give more passengers room to store a carry-on roll-aboard near their own seat, adding both extra convenience and extra legroom.

 

Boeing said it had redesigned reading-light switches so passengers can find them more easily and avoid accidentally pressing the flight-attendant call button.

 

Speakers were integrated into each row's passenger-service unit to improve sound and clarity of public address operations, while the new integrated air vent and improved noise-dampening materials reduce overall cabin noise.

 

Boeing said changes to the Next-Generation 737 were more than cosmetic as the firm was targeting a two percent reduction in fuel consumption by 2011 through a combination of airframe and engine improvements.

 

Airplane structural improvements would reduce drag on the airplane, reducing fuel use by about one percent.

 

Boeing's engine partner, CFM, is contributing the other one percent fuel savings through hardware changes to its engine.

 

Continental Airlines would make a Next-Generation 737-800 available to Boeing to flight test the performance improvements.
