SIA's move to phase out 777-200ERs gathers pace

Recommended Posts

In this article http://asia.businesstraveller.com/news/fleet-upgrade-for-royal-brunei it was mentioned that:

Cabin interiors will remain unchanged so expect business class to feature SIA’s “Raffles” seats which are angled lie-flat rather than fully flat. However RBA will be installing its own IFE (inflight entertainment) system.

SIA operated these B777s in a two-class layout with 30 business class seats (disposed 2-2-2) with 57 ins of legroom and with 255 economy class seats (3-3-3) with 34 ins of legroom.

It means RBA’s marketing department will have to hone its marketing skills to fill the extra seats as the B767s seat 23 in business and 182 in economy class.

Passengers who have flown SIA in the past will remember that these particular B777s operated between Manchester and Singapore in SIA service until the end of March (before being replaced by newer and larger B777-300ERs). Currently this B777-200ER model is still used by SIA for its Singapore services out of Amsterdam and Copenhagen.

So BI is actually leasing 6 B772s of the 9V-SV* series (2 class long haul with full ER powered engines), possibly SVA, SVB, SVC, SVD, SVE and SVF.

Hopefully, we get the Sierra-Whiskey's in AMS in that case, i.s.o. these 'boring' Sierra-Victor's... :pardon:

Well, KLM is till operating their MD-11, along with other new aircraft. What I was trying to say is renewing 6 types of aircraft is not as aeasy as renewing a single type.

KLM is still flying MD11 as they are OWNED by KLM and all have been payed off. Most of the 330s and 777s are leased aircraft so more expensive in use!

That's why you still see MD11 fly around in KLM colours in at least 5 or 6 years from now :D

Yap, I can confirmed that BI is taking SQ's 9V-SVA, SVB, SVC and SVD. SVF, SQA and SVB are in service by now if I am not mistaken. The retirement of B763 will soon commence..no more 'golden throne'... :sorry:

Wonder when will the "other 5 star" be phasing out the T7s? If not mistaken they got their first a month earlier from SQ and it's still active on key routes. Did see some signs of "aged" on the last flight I took back in April 2010. Hopefully not more than 3 - 4 years.....

9V-SVA has already been delivered to Royal Brunei Airlines as V8-BLC and this has already gone into operation on the BWN-LHR-BWN route last week.

9V-SRC is already in all white and the Transaero livery will next be applied.

Other updates: SilkAir A319 9V-SBA has already been painted in an all-white livery with Swedish registration (Can anyone confirm if it is indeed SE-IRA).

9V-SBB has also been painted all white and the livery of Belle Air - a Bulgarian low cost carrier - is currently being applied.

LOL. CX apparently doesn't really care with operating old aircraft (per EK and SQ standard) and still remains profitable.

Well to be honest the only people who care are aviation buffs. As long as cabin and product is good, normal passenger would be happy.

CX additionally announced yesterday that it signed a letter of intent with Airbus covering the purchase of 30 A350-900s. The airline said the Rolls Royce Trent 1000 XWB-powered aircraft will form the backbone of its future midsize widebody fleet. They are slated for delivery between 2016 and 2019 and will replace CX's A330s and A340s. The next-generation aircraft will be used across the carrier's network, including on nonstop flights from Hong Kong to Europe and North America.

I guess the question is how many B777-212ERs will be left with after they are sold or leased out?

I think the answer would be 0. From my understanding, all SQ's B772s must go. The airline has 20 B789s and 20 A359s as a replacement for this type.

Not really a 777 phase out news per se, but there was a huge buzz today in SQTalk about the confirmed rumour of total removal of SQ's B772s from SIN-KUL-SIN sector. All SQ flights on the route will be on the new A333s beginning March 2011. SQ's 772s will be a history in KUL. http://www.sqtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10680
