KK Lee 5 Report post Posted June 8, 2010 That's a big plus for the old generation seats on MH 777, 747 and A330. The seats in Y are more bulky and comfortable. I never tried the new gen seats on SQ and CX, but I heard they are quite hard, especially on CX. Soft seat (or pure foam mattress) is only comfortable to light weight Asian, heavier weight European may not find enough support and after sometime most soft seat cushion is deflated (e.g. MH A333). For the same seat pitch, thinner seat give extra leg room.

Even Ak is throwing out those seats that cannot recline from their airbuses, so nah MH wount make the mistake of puting them in their planes and a bonus as the seats have been tested on SQ and CX and deemed uncomfortable. I really hope MH uses a nice seat on their economy class in the new planes. I've been looking at Asiana's new business class and their seats are impressive! flee 5 Report post Posted June 13, 2010 (edited) 9M-XXB - this 3-3-3 cabin with reclining seats is now standard on all D7 economy seats. MH's A333 seats should be similar to their A380's for product consistency (if they follow SQ's example). Edited June 13, 2010 by flee

Josh T 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2010 Yikes! 9 abreast seating on an A330/A340 is simply too cramped! It's just like the 10 abreast seating some airlines use for the B777.

Not to mention the narrow aisles. Must be irritating to be on the aisle seats when people keep hitting your elbow.

flee 5 Report post Posted June 13, 2010 As at 11th June, 9M-XAA EY seat is still not able to recline. 9M-XXE is due to be delivered anytime soon. If I am not mistaken, 9M-XAA will go for seat refitting once XXE is put into service. Currently, 9M-XAB is in for refitting, so the STN service is reduced to 5X weekely. D7 has previously said that all aircraft are targetted to have the new seats by the end of June.

Mohd Azizul Ramli 2 Report post Posted June 28, 2010 Sensational news leaked by the MH Rumour Department! Pratt & Whitney was choosen over the favourite Rolls Royce for the power plant of MH's new 15 A333s! P&W legacy with MH continues.
flee 5 Report post Posted June 28, 2010 (edited) Not as surprising as it sounds - cos MH has invested a lot in MRO facilities. If RR Trent 700 EPs are specified, it may involve a lot of other costs as well as staff retraining. This may also indicate that MH might not use the A333s for too long - they may see this as a stop gap to renew a tired old fleet pending a permanent replacement later on. Interesting! Do MH share their MRO facilities with Air Asia? Air Asia is using RR Trent on their A330. So new MH A330s will be A330-323X?

Johan Z 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2010 It's on the news, so not a rumor anymore. Malaysian Air Decides On Pratt & Whitney Engines For New A330s KUALA LUMPUR (Dow Jones)--Malaysian Airline System Bhd. (3786.KU) has decided on Pratt & Whitney engines to power its fleet of 17 new Airbus 330s due to be delivered from next year, Chief Executive Azmil Zahruddin said Monday. "It's going to the Pratt & Whitney (engines)... they are the same engines that we have on our (existing) A330s today," Azmil said at the sidelines of a conference. Pratt & Whitney, unit of United Technologies Corp. (UTX), is one of three jet-engine makers that can power the A330. Rolls Royce PLC (RR.LN) and General Electric Co. (GE) are the other engine makers. Azmil declined to say how much the engines are worth. The airline had in March ordered 15 A330-300 and two A330-200F freighters from planemaker Airbus at a total list price of $3.6 billion. It has options for a further 12 A330s. Deliveries of the new A330s will begin in the first half of 2011. Malaysian Air currently has a fleet of 11 A330-300s and 3 A330-200s. http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20100627-704983.html

Yes, that would be a very safe assumption If a different engine had been/is to be chosen (?) for the two freighters, expect much discussion on MW to follow

Mohd Azizul Ramli 2 Report post Posted July 5, 2010 MH's regional manager for South Asia, Azahar Hamid, mentioned in this article http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_News/BTIMES/articles/rupmas/Article/#ixzz0slxFRxRX that Under MAS' fleet renewal programme, new Airbus aircraft will replace the current fleet plying the New Delhi and Chennai sectors, while Mumbai will be serviced by the Boeing 777 and Hyderabad and Bangalore, the 737. This is the first time a destination (Delhi and Chennai in this case) has been specifically mentioned to be getting the new A333 service by the media.
