Whats the definition of "inaugural"?

I believe the first commercial KUL-BKI flight on -MXA may be on 14-Nov, not 15-Nov. MH7402 ETD 13:00/ 14NOV - which also looks like a positioning flight for next day's HND run, but available for sale.

Inaugural = marking the beginning of an institution, activity, or period of office. Which is in this case the introduction of MH's new factory-fresh 738 with the new interior and of course new livery!

You didnt get it. I wasn't asking for the literal definition - I know what it means...but I'm curious to know what the marketing folks actually meant by "inaugural" in this competition.

Did they mean the unofficial inaugural (commercial) flight of the aircraft, or its inaugural (commercial) flight to BKI? E.g. the aircraft may have operated several flights to PEN, well before the flight to BKI or it may have been flown to BKI and back to KUL, but not carrying any commercial pax.

ANother example: the so-called official inaugural commercial flight of SQ's A330 was on 30-Mar-09, to BNE. However, the aircraft had actually done other commercial sectors before the BNE run, i.e. to KUL and CGK. So, in reality, there were many other pax on the aircraft's first ever real commercial run (SIN-KUL), but it wasnt recognised as the "official" inaugural one.

And I bet you that MH will OFFICIALLY announce that the real official inaugural flight of -MXA is to HND on the 15th, not the MH7402 KUL-BKI on the 14th. Obviously, HND is more glamorous than 'ol BKI.

Fare is high (RM 249) compared to the RM 99 launch offer. But it is still cheaper than their normal fares (from RM 424).

Azran sent a huge warning to MH on his Facebook wall today.

Azran Osman-Rani

This is dedicated to national carriers that depend on protectionist strategies and equity injections from government shareholders to survive, without a single competitive and innovative spark.

They should learn how to protest from Richard Branson. At least he does it in a classier way. This just look too vindictive.

Already came out in MH Mail..

R.I.P Fss Chin Swee Len, aged 34.

A well written obituary, attached with a commendable note of reminder by our new Inflight Service EVP, Dato' Mohd Salleh. Dear crew members and ex-colleagues...all relevant and transparent information is available on MHMail, MH Pulse, Inflight Pulse & MH E-Bulletin. Strictly the truth and nothing but d truth can be found on those portals. Again, re-itterating what Dato' Salleh has said in his email, refrain from speculations and guard our corporate image with great honour. Thank you for your attention.

hope whoever did this to her will be found n punished.

From the leakage by the MH Rumour Department:

- The incident is true. A MH FA was raped to death.

- MH has sent emails to all crew not to speculate. The deceased is a Malaysian female cabin crew of Chinese descent. She is married with a children. Died in hotel room. The death becomes known when she failed to show up at the hotel's lobby for the flight back to KUL.

- Incident happened at room 409 Sheraton Schiphol.

- MH crews are tight lipped because a warning has been issued to them not to speculate.

Searched through all Holland's online newspaper and found nothing on this incident..

NST

very disturbing news and RIP to the victim :(

but isn't all crew accommodation sharing ? so this leaves only a short time for the incident to happen.

No, it is always one crew to a room. Different people could have different habits and lifestyles, and this could be disturbing the resting period of others if the accommodation is shared.

‎"...believed to have been assaulted and then thrown out of her hotel room window. "Her fourth floor room was broken into and ransacked," said the source."

Radisson is a 5 star establishment. The assaulter must be someone she knew that she invited into her room. Another theory is that this is the work of some hotel staff, just like in the case of the murder of Michaela McAreavey, who was murdered in her hotel room during her honeymoon vacation in a 5 star hotel in Mauritius. Both murders happened on the same week.

At least this one reached the press pronto unlike the other cases.

Stewardess found dead in Amsterdam

2011/01/16

By Fadhal A. Ghani and Kalbana Perimbanayagam

KUALA LUMPUR: Mystery surrounds the death of a Malaysia Airlines stewardess who was found dead at a hotel car park in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on Friday morning.

Chin Swee Len, 35, was discovered at 9am by guests of the Radisson Hotel who alerted the police. A source from the airline said Chin was believed to have been assaulted and then thrown out of her hotel room window.

"Her fourth floor room was broken into and ransacked," said the source.

Chin failed to attend the briefing at the hotel lobby, which is usually held before the crew leaves for the airport to board their flight.

"A crew member went up to the room to check but could not find her. The room was ransacked and the window was open."

Chin, who is married and has a child, was staying in Taman Oakland, Seremban with her husband. Chin, who was a senior flight attendant, and had been working with the airline since 1997.

Amsterdam police said they were investigating to see whether there was any foul play.

The plane which Chin was supposed to have boarded had to leave without her and landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 1pm yesterday. Netherlands' police had requested assistance from Interpol and the Malaysian police to help in their investigation. A Wisma Putra official confirmed they had been informed.

MAS has flown Chin's husband and immediate family members to Amsterdam to bring back the body. They left late last night.

Its Director of Operations, Captain Azharuddin Osman, said their main concern was to support the family during this difficult time and were cooperating with the authorities.

Several sources are now questioning at which hotel this incident happened. All the Malaysian news websites quoted Radisson while the MH Rumour Department mentioned Sheraton Schiphol. It seems MH recently changed their crew layover base between the 2 hotels. So which one is right?

And here's an explanation from Tony on why AK decided to cancel 2 flights, KUL-HYD-KUL and PEN-MAA-PEN.

All were started by this question from the MP of Kota Belud.

@tonyfernandes how? RT @Arasu4952: @mpkotabelud - wat happened to penang-chennai, kl-hyderabad routes given. All closed down. Nak lagi ke?

He quickly replied to that with this first...

@mpkotabelud @azranosmanrani @AirAsia @tengkuazmil wish the minister just gave us routes. No need to tweet. Azran waiting for jeddah beijing sydney, shanghai and Osaka. Azmil blocks all. He can start firefly which we support. A good ceo thinks about his country first and thrives on competition

and followed by this.

@mpkotabelud @Arasu4952 hyderbad increased charges by 1200 percent. Airport owned by malaysian airports. So we couldn't make money. Penang chennai. No space in penang airport so have to subsititute. We have been asking for lcct in penang for 4 years.

I recently read a news article where a very long explanation was given by AirAsia India manager on the suspension of the routes.

BANGALORE: International low-cost carriers flying into India have hit serious air pockets. NOK Air, Tiger Airways and Jetstar Asia have already faded from people's memory. Some of the few remaining players are said to be struggling to generate a decent economic return.

From January 11, Malaysian low-cost carrier AirAsia ceased operating out of Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram. Last year, it scaled down its Bangalore operations from a daily flight to four flights a week. It's also withdrawing its Chennai-Penang route, on which it had a complete monopoly, and instead converting that to a Trichy-Kuala Lumpur route.

Bruising fare wars have been one reason for the exits by these carriers. But there are other equally important reasons: low load factors, poor onward connectivity and competitive holiday packages offered by full service airlines.

"International point-to-point traffic is limited for these low cost airlines," said Ankur Bhatia, executive director of aviation consultancy firm Bird Group. So, if your flight gets delayed at your India boarding destination, and you miss the onward flight, these carriers don't have the bandwidth to quickly provide an alternative or to put you in a hotel.

On the contrary, full-service carriers like Malaysian Airlines, SriLankan, Thai Airways and Singapore Airlines connect passengers to other destinations. They also offer competitive holiday packages. And passengers don't mind paying a few extra bucks for hassle-free travel. Thai low-cost carrier NOK Air began operations in June 2007, it was positioned as a shoppers' airline offering discounts at malls in Bangkok. But the airline withdrew the Bangalore-Bangkok route in November of the same year. This was attributed to poor passenger response.

Singapore-based Jetstar Asia also met a similar fate three years back. It suspended the five flights per week service on the Bangalore-Singapore sector.

For AirAsia, some of the withdrawals have been on account of poor load factors. "We were not seeing growth in the Chennai-Penang route. It is not as profitable as we expected it to be," said Suresh Nair, the India head of Air Asia.

Another problem is that since low-cost carriers operate on slim margins, they don't engage travel agents as much as full-service airlines do. Many potential passengers on these flights are first-time travellers, but such travellers are often not familiar with the documentation work. They rely on a travel agent to process their visas, arrange for hotel bookings, holiday packages etc. But since low-cost carriers have a limited engagement with travel agents, they lose out on first-time travellers. "These carriers typically depend on online ticketing and have not been travel-agent friendly," said B Ashok, director of Excelsior Travels.

Cost has been the main reason for AirAsia's exit from Hyderabad. GMR's Hyderabad International Airport recently increased the UDF (user development fee) from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,875. AirAsia offers a Hyderabad-KL ticket at Rs 4,500.

"In this case, we pay Rs 1,875 as UDF, Rs 230 as passenger service fee and Rs 515 as service tax. It's not feasible to run the show," Nair said.

Capt G R Gopinath shares a similar view. "Most of these carriers require alternative airports. Airport charges are so high that they are sometimes 50% of the fare. This makes it economically unviable," he says.

However, some of the low-cost carriers from the Gulf still look optimistic about India. Air Arabia flies to some large Indian cities, and many smaller ones like Nagpur, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Coimbatore, Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram, helping passengers fly directly from and to their hometown. Dubai's low-cost carrier FlyDubai started a Dubai-Lucknow direct flight in June last year, and is now awaiting clearance to operate from south India.

Given that airport charges in smaller cities are lower, these destinations may be more viable for low cost carriers that see sufficient passenger numbers from those places.

One thing I love about Uncle Tony is his ever willingness to parade the 'gomen' team's dirty laundry to the mass public in the most effective way. Hope the MPs will counter attack and Uncle Tony will then reveals even more juicy infos.

A good ceo thinks about his country first .....

Ok if you're ceo to a nation

If ceo of a private enterprise, that is mere lip service ..... :pardon:

Incidentally, Dato couldn't have been much of a ceo/patriot considering how Fly Asian Xpress wound up eventually <_>

...Azran waiting for jeddah beijing sydney, shanghai and Osaka. Azmil blocks all...

Azmil blocks these routes? I thought it is the government who is clipping the wings of D7?

hyderbad increased charges by 1200 percent. Airport owned by malaysian airports.

MAHB does not own the airport entirely. From GMR website:

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) is a joint venture company promoted by the GMR Group (63%) in partnership with government of India (13%), government of Andhra Pradesh (13%) and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (11%).

I highly doubt if MAHB has the ability to increase the charges just to deter AK from flying to HYD. Besides, MH itself is also affected by the high charges.

Penang chennai. No space in penang airport so have to subsititute.

Low yield and load factor is more likely to be the real reason.

Incidentally, Dato couldn't have been much of a ceo/patriot considering how Fly Asian Xpress wound up eventually <_<
