Recommended Posts

from the looks of it i think it can be completed by April 2013, but whether it can be operational by then thats a diffrent question. :D

I don't see how it can be completed by April 2013. Maybe April 2014.

Yes It's a big place, but most likely with majority movement concentrated on KLIA 2.

So there will also be a train to connect the two satellites at klia 2 ?

The wretched trains at klia are such a disaster , a little better after Reno ....but still badly planned and conceived to begin with ...

The layout of HKIA and the train connection is far superior.

Skybridge equipped with travolators - no trains.

This is something that excites spotters as aircraft will pass below the skybridge.

No more speculation of AK not wanting to move to KLIA2.

Tony Fernandes

He's gonna say yes after all. Don't think he wanna play it hard and stay at the warehouse while all his competitors (Mandala, Tiger, Cebu Pac, Air Phil Express) moved to the new terminal which give them good advantage.

How exactly is this badly planned and conceived? Grass is greener on the other side?

With HKIA, you need to walk and go all the way downstairs, past arrival and then come up. I find it bit of nuisance and pain. With KLIA it is pretty straight forward and on the same grade.

What I am more concern about is the final cost of KLIA. Rumour has it that it is going to cost as much as 5 billion rather than the 1.5 billion as proposed initially.

The KLIA 2 tower will be the highest ATC Control tower throughout the whole world. That's what I heard. xD

At only 93M, probably not.

Heh heh, nobody surprised nor batting an eyelid - it's the norm nowadays :D

Now if it is to somehow remain within budget, that would the the surprising bit :)

Airasia In Talks With MAHB For KLIA 2 SLA

SEPANG, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- AirAsia Bhd is currently negotiating terms with Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) to formulate a service-level agreement (SLA) at the new low-cost carrier terminal (LCCT), KLIA 2.

Its Chief Executive Officer, Aireen Omar, said an SLA woudl be in place between the frills-free airline and MAHB, but declined to divulge details of the proposed agreement.

"It's something that is in progress. Generally, there would be a SLA. But I cannot comment much as this involves MAHB and other related parties as well," she told reporters after launching the enhanced version of AirAsia Megastore here Tuesday.

AirAsia is poised to become the largest tenant at KLIA 2, and a SLA is expected to formally define the level of service both MAHB and AirAsia would provide at KLIA2, scheduled to be operational in April 2013.

There is no SLA in place currently for AirAsia's use of the existing LCCT, except for certain written understanding.

Aireen said AirAsia was seeking to move into the new airport as soon as it was completed and the shift would be done "overnight" and not in phases.

She added that AirAsia Group Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes was absolutely right when he said the move to KLIA 2 would make the budget carrier even more stronger in Malaysia and regionally.

On Monday, Fernandes tweeted that AirAsia was now positive of its impending shift to the new airport, adding that the new airport "looks cool".

From 1.7 billion to 5 billion (estimated final amount) is 200%+ increase in price. The QS should have been sacked ages ago.

Or may be not, since transparency and accountability isn't an issue in boleh land.

The so called low cost terminal is hardly low cost in actual terms.

Why make the poor QS shoulder the consequences when it's others' decision to increase floor space, redesign and respec requirements and others' lack of oversight in properly assessing soil conditions of the construction site ? :)
