MAS Calls For Regulated Advertising Of All-in Prices

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines has called on the government to regulate advertising of all-in prices in Malaysia as advocated by the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA).

In a statement today, its senior general manager network revenue management, Datuk Bernard Francis said customers would benefit from advertisements which feature all-in prices as they know upfront the total amount to be paid inclusive of taxes, surcharges and fees.

"In Malaysia, we believe all-in pricing must be made mandatory by regulation so that all airlines, full service and low cost, would have to implement it in their communications.

"Currently, this practice is already in use in Australia," he added.

"In the interest of transparency and to ensure that the customer is able to make a considered decision, there should be no hidden costs. All advertisements should also clearly state the optional services that are chargeable," Francis stated.

It is a good move, but MAS don't have to wait for it to be regulated by the government to do it. Just advertise the all-in fare and state clearly that is the net fare, surely it will win some goodwill from passengers.

I think without waiting from any regulations to come up, all (local) airlines should take the initiative to advertise all-in prices on their own. The gahmen didn't ask airlines to advertise air fares minus add on fees in the first place.

It's another good move benefiting the customer.

I believed it will spark another price war between MH and AK if MH start to advertise their full fare inclusive. Let the war begin.

Can't wait to see both sides advert.

Emm I personally feel that why MAS ask government to regulate this kind of regulation because MAS scare to show full price much higher than AK if AK remain to show air fare only..So more passenger will choose AK than MH..hehehehe..

The only MAS rival is AK, so what MH need to do, AK need/must follow (order form gomen most of it) and what AK do, MH will tiru bit..

But it is good way to let people know the actual ticket fare with exact amount we need to pay..no hiding cost and mislead advert any more..

I dont think so our MP ask the gomen to do so in this short time with our current politic situation now..hahaha.. :p :P :p

Non optional plus plus plus fare is basically misleading, should be outlaw.

MH should start advertise all inclusive fare unilaterally to add weight to its calls.

Off topic;

understand from newspaper, those MPs went to Taiwan for ‘agricultural study’ took CI and CX. Why didn’t they take MH?

Finally, something that even we, MalaysianWings members have been mulling over for years. Hopefully it will become a reality soon. This is a good move.

Most probably MH is TOO EXPENSIVE even the MPs do not want to fly with them. CI return air fare is the lowest between KUL/TPE follow by BR then CX.

CI and BR lowest return air fare in EY is around RM1200 - RM1400 (inclusive of tax and fuel surcharge) and it is NOT capacity controlled. Unlike MAS, all air fares are capacity controlled and even their lowest return air fare (L or V class) in EY between KUL/TPE is already around or more than RM2000 (inclusive of tax and fuel surcharge).
