  1. instead of frequent flyer miles...we can all join the mile high club! time to get going guys...
  2. feasability study or not...better to be considered rather than dismissed altogether! hope this works out for AF and KUL
  3. alright imran! its a flying visit this time...going to KK tomorrow am...then back on the 27th. hopefully can get to do some spotting after that! flew on 77W from LGW to DXB, then 773 to KUL. enjoyed the ICE system...when it actually worked! nice stewardesses either way... the arab/asian ones are really nice generally...few of the eastern european ones...they're just so grumpy. pity, as my junior at the moment is a hot polish chick...and the one before that.. ! really nice and sweet...but absolutely hopeless at work.
  4. hey guys...just arrived back from LGW via DXB. the flight from DXB to KUL was supposed to be on a 772 but the changed it to their old 773. full flight with the majority of passengers stopping off at KUL - lots of europeans, arabs, malaysians. this is good news....no wonder they are changing it to 77W in october...demand is still strong to KUL. however, this is the peak season. getting from UK to malaysia vv was difficult..all flights were fully booked. emirates should capitalise on the lack of MH services to and fro UK and fill in the gap. even gulf air/sri lankan etc was unavailable.

  7. pieter...that's good news indeed! this will also help to show AF how important the AMS-KUL route is to both KL/MH
  8. by the way guys....LH flies from FRA to KUL on 744....not MUC to KUL.
  9. what about kul? most likely to get the axe now that they dont fly onwards to syd
  10. salams uncle attan...glad to know that you're ok! alhamdulillah you were not hurt too badly. get well soon.... PS: just read the article in thestar online....saw the name atan akmar and remembered your light aircraft photo sessions on mwings!
  11. actually sv choong....m'sia is THE largest trading partner of china in South East Asia....more than singapore or thailand. check prev articles from the star or bernama
  12. lebanon and the muslims in that region have suffered enough. this attack is typical of the 'collective punishment' policy of the zionist regime. and pieter....i use only use the term 'zionist' because i know there are many jews and israelis - jewish or arabs - who want peace in the region. i don't hate the jews..however, i am furious with the oppressive and inhumane treatment meted out by the zionist government. and its NOT because of Iranian propaganda as you'd like to think. the world can only watch on as the US will veto any sanctions against the state of Israel which has broken at least 67 UN resolutions. as radzi said...they are the biggest terrorists of them all
  13. so..u mean to say that for kidnapping one or two Zionist regime SOLDIERS, its ok to knock out the only power plant serving the gaza strip - depriving the million or so people of energy, sanitation, water, healthcare needs..etc etc. Also for the 1 or 2 soldiers kidnapped... its okay to kill a few hundred civillians... israel and america wanted democracy for the middle east....and allowed palestinians to vote to CHOOSE their OWN leaders...and surprise surprise, when HAMAS won...US/Zionist regime are not happy?? they wanted democracy..they HAVE IT! and also by the way....Beirut has been a war zone for over 20 years...and now when its on its way to full recovery..they are trying to reduce it to rubble once again. i watched the film Munich yesterday coincidentally... opened my eyes to what the Mossad and the Zionist regime get up to. i'm glad the malaysian government does not recognise the Zionist regime
  14. hahaha... nice one. let SIN feel the impact of what KUL is so used to! looking at it from another perspective...it looks like KUL may not be on the cards...now that SIN is off the route network. not good news at all. they used to have once weekly CHC-AKL-SIN-KUL B767 services but that didn't last very long at all. KUL seems to have stagnated this year with no new carriers... (major one, let me add). what the hell is MAHB doing?? BKK seems to be a magnet for new carriers..... KUL would only be the hub of LCC flights if we're not careful. Air asia even..
  15. since MH has spent so much money already to improve facilities for the A380 and on the A380 itself....don't defer it. use it on AMS/LHR-KUL-SYD/MEL/PER route. take out more 744s and convert them to freighter versions so that MASKargo can compete on a more even footing with SQ or EK skycargo....since MASKargo is MH's star performer! get rid of those bloody 747-200Fs.. just my humble opinion...
  16. MASkargo in talks to lease A300 freighters By Kang Siew Li siewli@nstp.com.my June 26 2006 MALAYSIA Airlines (MAS) air freight unit, Malaysia Airlines Cargo Sdn Bhd (MASkargo), is in talks with aircraft leasing companies to lease up to two Airbus A300 freighters for use on regional routes. "We need that aircraft range to serve destinations in China, Vietnam, India, Japan and Taiwan. "We have begun talks with several aircraft lessors, and now the question is whether we can secure the aircraft and for the right price," MAS senior general manager (cargo) Datuk Ong Jyh Jong told Business Times. "However, we have to make a decision pretty soon if we are going to capitalise on the peak period for air cargo in the second half of this year," he added. The two A300Fs are to be wet-leased to avoid the need to dedicate a pool of pilots and mechanics to this aircraft type. Under wet-lease, an aircraft is leased with cockpit and/or cabin crew. Currently, the cargo unit operates a fleet of Boeing aircraft, consisting of two owned 747-400Fs and five leased 747-200Fs. Leasing of the A300Fs will also help make up for the reduction in belly capacity following the recent cutbacks to MAS' passenger services. The first phase of MAS' route rationalisation in March had resulted in MASkargo losing some RM66 million in revenue. Some of the destinations cut were Manchester, Vienna and Frankfurt where freight demand has been high. To offset the loss of these international routes, MASkargo will be mounting more freighter flights to make sure it can provide some of the capacity lost on the passenger flights, Ong said. "(For starters) we are planning to fly two times a week from Kuala Lumpur to London in August this year using our 747-400Fs. These will be increased to four flights a week," he said. It will be MASkargo's third destination in Europe, after Amsterdam and Frankfurt. MASkargo currently provides freighter services to Amsterdam, Pudong, Hangzhou, Penang, Dubai, Taipei, Melbourne, Tokyo, Osaka, Hong Kong, Sydney and Frankfurt. To a question, Ong said he sees MASkargo's dependence on the belly space of MAS' passenger airplanes declining to less than 50 per cent from this year onwards. Currently, it constitutes more than 50 per cent of MASkargo's total cargo uplift. Meanwhile, MASkargo is eagerly awaiting parent MAS' disclosure as to how many 747-400 passenger aircraft the latter will free up for conversion to freighters. It expects a response by the end of this year. It plans to use the additional 747-400s to serve long-haul routes such as Europe, Australia and China. "MAS has indicated that they will free up some of its passenger aircraft, but we don't know the actual numbers. MAS has seventeen 747-400 passenger aircraft in its fleet. The cargo unit is confident of meeting its target of RM107 million operating profit for the year, thanks mainly to the two new 747-400Fs it received this year. Revenue is expected to grow 7-8 per cent. "We will feel the full impact of the two 747-400Fs from July onwards, in time to take advantage of the forthcoming peak shipping season," Ong said. At the same time, MASkargo is predicting growth of 5 to 8 per cent to 700,000 tonnes in the volume of cargo handled this year. Last year, it handled 644,000 tonnes. "For the first five months this year, we saw growth close to 3 per cent in the volume of cargo handled, and this is not the peak yet. In fact, we are expanding our warehouse capacity at KL International Airport in Sepang to accommodate some of this growth," said Ong.
  17. ku started flights to kul in 89/90....stopped after the 1st gulf war when kuwait got invaded by iraq. they then started flights to sin, cgk, bkk but omitted kul for some reason. restarted in 94 but that didn't last long. now starting again...lets hope they stay longer this time. mea flew 747 flights once weekly on the bey-kul-syd route codesharing with mh's 2x weekly 777 service. hope they fly to kul as well with their 330s. turkish flew to kul in the 80s/early 90s with A310. stopped for a few years....then resumed services in 99 - this time with A310/A340. they suspended their ist-bkk-kul service as they were more interested in ist-bkk-hkg.
  18. woo hoo! 77W with ice.....i think i might just start flying ek! not to mention dxb-man sector has briyani on the menu
  19. hey guys....good news. i was just checking amadeus.net and this is what I found! from oct - EK will be flying 10x weekly to KUL - 8 flights with 77W non stop! 2 flights with 332 non stop!!! good news indeed! imran - can u confirm this bro???
  20. with 1.6 million/year - miri seems to be in fifth place! how surprising... never realised how important miri airport was!
  21. i think while SQ and TG were busy building up contacts/network and joining alliances early on, MH were still arsing about ,claiming that they don't need to join any alliance. now, no one is interested in MH as a partner. why? because in the past few years, all the airlines have been concentrating on CHina and India - where the big bucks lie. total market of 2 billion!!! MH is 5 years too late.... we have missed the boat! who needs MH? they don't need MH's Ozzie and NZ services..... look at bloody AF - instead of trying to make progress with MH like KLM has done- and use KLIA as a hub to Ozzie/NZ - what did they do??? codeshare with QF via SIN!!! it shows that they are not in the least interested in MH. i don't know why that is the case. i could be wrong but the vibes coming out of the different forums show that MH and AF have and will never get along! its sad really - but MH's old board were arrogant and not in the least interested about improving the airline or aviation in the country. they didn't have to - cos all they wanted to do was to have their share of the 'buffet'! hasn't done us any favours whatsoever. anyways....rant over!
  22. what did u guys think of the tourism minister saying that middle eastern airlines were doubling flights to KL this summer since emirates and qatar airways only flew to KUL 'once a week'. he also 'discussed' with etihad airways and they 'promised' to fly to KUL by the end of the year. also in negotiations with him were Mahan Airlines of Iran.. hmmm..
  23. i remember the good old days where we had once weekly LTU dusseldorf-langkawi flights with 767...i think they stopped in '94
  24. hey imran bro... i'm chilling out man. what do you mean past replies bro? it seems that you got a bit defensive on a statement i initially made on EK anyways....the thing i said about u still a twinkle in your parents' eyes...was a joke. i sincerely apologise if you were hurt by that as i never meant it to insult your parents, or you for that matter! as for gavin....HUH???!!!??? this is a forum, not a dictatorship. i don't think i was rude to anyone, but u were to me. remember the reasons u guys started this site ok!!!
  25. hey hey...that's exactly what i meant... !!! if EK cannot justify flying a 772 into KUL....so then they shouldn't say that they will fly A380 into KUL. by the way....I know that loads to KUL don't warrant much s++t from many airlines...and that's why we've lost sabena, aeroflot, csa, balkan, BA, qf, ansett, ana, turkish, kuwait, air france, air new zealand, seychelles, northwest, panam etc etc etc. ... over the past 20 years. and i've known that since before u were a twinkle in your parents' eyes... so take it easy!
