  1. Keith. just a small correction.. BNE-PER actually only last 4.5 hrs. I'm yet to travel long haul domestic flights, but it definitely not something to look forward to.
  2. My suggestions: - Re-train the ground staffs, they are the first face of the airlines who customers see. Professionalism seem to be lacking there. - Upgrade the aircrafts. - Dump the B744 and A380. MAS don't need those. Instead, invest more on smaller aircrafts (777, 787, 330, or 350) to cater for their high density long haul routes. It's better to have smaller aircrafts but profitable rather than unprofitable habit of satisfying Malaysian appetite for being the first in gigantism. - Revert back to hot meals, snack box is just plain appalling. Improved the meals on the long haul sectors, asian snacks do not consist of cold hard sandwich. Maybe can start to invite renowned chefs to be more actively involved in meals planning. Qantas has Neil Perry and SQ has a rather large number of culinary panels from all over the world. - Employees bonus when companies make profits. This will help with employees morale. - Dump the first class. - Cut the unprofitable routes. Exotic routes doesn't have place in profitability. - Actively create brand awareness in Australasia and Europe. Kangaroo routes are very important and I see that MH are constantly overshadowed by EK, SQ, and CX on these routes. - Keep pushing for Skyteam membership. This will open a whole new world of customers. - Do not follow AK pricing, it's a recipe for disaster. - Do not cost cut the onboard service. Where's my menu and playing cards? - Focus on global market. MH can't always rely on Malaysians as their source of income. SQ and CX main income are from foreigners and transit passengers. - Improve the online bookings. - Improve the aircraft utilisation rates, so no planes are idle in the tarmac. Sell those which are not needed. That's all I can think for now.....
  3. I would reserve that comment until later. For all we know, the only thing he cares probably only shareholders, profitability, and his salary and benefits.
  4. If you pay 10,000 bucks for a seat (or bed..) in suites, you probably don't want to hear those "funny" noises. But I guess it's okay for couples doing it discreetly without making noises or letting anyone knows about it. After all, mile high club is nothing new. Just hope that SQ do change the sheets regularly...
  5. I just hope this is a once off event, not the ripple effect from cost cutting. Otherwise, MH may lose the main source of their profit. I was actually thinking to take MH business class for intra SE Asia trip in February, now I'm not so sure anymore.
  6. Unfortunately, KUL do not attracts business markets as much as HKG and SIN do. Most of the passengers travelling to KUL are either students or tourists, who normally fly economy class. Economy class passengers contributes to the bottom line of the airlines revenue, sustaining the day to day operations. However, without business or first class passengers, airlines won't be able to make much profit, if any at all. This is why KUL is not attractive destinations for many airlines. KUL reminds me of AMS, where they don't have much premium passengers in comparison to their neighbors like LHR, FRA, or CDG. Maybe MH should learn to model their operations like KL (without KL infamous service, of course). KL filled their planes with large number of economy class passengers, smaller business class cabins, and high aircrafts utilisation rates.
  7. Singapore has long mentioned that they will determined to be a hub, even if it cost them Singapore Airlines. Malaysian government unfortunately hasnt seen the big picture yet, they don't understand that competition increase efficiency. Dubai has also followed Singapore's idea. Dubai will run out of oil very soon, that is why they are building tourism and hub infrastructures at an exponential rate. At the moment oil only counts 6% of their GDP and it will decrease every year, before the oil runs out in 2016. Malaysia probably will not learn their lesson until all their resources is gone. When it's all gone, they will start to realised that they can't rely on Petronas anymore and their hub is also not up to scratch, which means even tourism cant be their cash cow.
  8. Yes it can... SQ normally attracts connecting passengers and business travellers. AK and TR will attract those normally taking the bus or trains. MH, well... who knows..
  9. Is it me or does anyone realised that Qantas always barking loudly at other competitions? * When SQ tries to enter US-Australia markets they were strongly against it and do anything it can to release press statements and pressure the governments * Previously, there's even rumors that Qantas wanted to deny SQ A380 entries into Australia before they get their own * When Tiger decided to come here, their subsidiaries Jetstar stated that Tiger will never make money here. Jetstar management been talking "badly" about Tiger, while Tiger choose to keep their claws hidden. * They goes against Emirates as well with their statements war between EK and QF a while ago Why can't they just shut up and mind their own business. Such a kiddish way to do business. If they have time to engage in statement war, they should have time to fix the bleeding Jetstar Asia. Before going waaaaaaayyyyyyy off topic, I just wanna say, it's a shame that Air Asia don't get permission to do so. Wonder if they have plans to set up in other countries as well.
  10. If Subang does become LCC hub, MH will surely scream like nobody business. With AK pricing and the convenience of being very close to KL downtown, everyone will definitely flock to Subang. I hate KLIA for being very far from KL and travelling to the airport can be more expensive than your AK ticket.
  11. omg... that is freaking expensive, especially for meals that is catered in bulk... BUT maybe that includes stuff like bread rolls, desserts, alcohol, etc??
  12. Well.. it was free.. at least in my case they don't deduct points from my HSBC or Bank Permata credit card. Not sure with other cards.
  13. As far as I know, there's no specific airline lounges in CGK. I believe, pretty much all airlines shared lounges. There are a number of lounges there and if you have gold/platinum credit card from certain Indonesian and international banks (eg. citibank, HSBC, standard chartered, bank permata, etc), you can enter some lounges for free, just look for the sign in front of the lounge. Some of these lounges also accepts fee based entries and prices normally is pretty reasonable, although I'm not sure how much.
  14. Hmm.. interesting. I still can't find it though... Always come up with RM3200 one way plus tax.. >_<
  15. Singapore, I heard, is ready to open up the routes and most SQ's passengers flying these routes are either businessmen or connecting from other flights. Opening the routes to AK will only strenghten Singapore's position as a hub and this is what they want to achieve. AK probably will not try to attract those businessmen, but those leisure travellers that normally take the bus across the causeway.
  16. Where you get the StarClass fares lower than SQ and MH Y fares? So far, I found their StarClass prices are rather expensive. Their fares to Japan is actually comparable to BR and CI business class. Even TG business class fares are only slightly higher.
  17. I beg to differ, SQ's and AK's leisure travellers are again on a different market segment. Their prices alone is enough to justify this statement. To BKK from SIN for example, it cost only 60SGD return with LCC such as TR and AK, while SQ cost around 320SGD. These prices are not including tax. I hate LCC, it's all just about getting from point A to point B, but at the same time, they have irresistable prices for students like me. However, for others, say my parents, they would never ever take LCC, full serviced airlines like SQ are the way to go. The serious contender to SQ at the moment are CX, TG, EK, and other legacy airlines. MH is not in the SQ league anymore...
  18. I wonder, why on earth MH even thinking to go back to MFM. As far as I understand, this market is a low yield market and MFM is not known to have any major airline on their turf. Before we know it, MH will be on the brink of disaster once more, as it tries to compete with AK head to head.
  19. The fact that MAS even bought A380 is stupid enough already. MAS doesn't need the excess capacity of A380, it is just part of Malaysian ambition to have the biggest and greatest at the taxpayers expense. It is possible that MAS will take both A350 and 787, as I believe that A350 is more suited to replace B744 and B777, while 787 is the replacement for A330. If I become MAS' CEO I would choose these aircrafts: - A350: Long Haul High Density - LHR, SYD, MEL, etc - 787: Long Haul Low Density, Medium/Short Haul High Density: BKK, HKG, PER, EWR, CGK, BOM, etc - A320/B738: Domestic/Short Haul - SUB, DPS, PEN, etc
  20. Arrgghh.. I"m so angry, can't even bought the ticket. Same problem with Azri, all of my cards declined!!! What a BS!!! Now they run out of the AUD1 ticket already... Feel like going to slap the IT people in AK.
  21. I think SQ sees 787 and 350 as a different aircraft, something in the line of 767 and 777. With rising fuel cost, they want to have something a bit smaller than their 777 for regional routes. However, their purchase of the 787 and 350 is a bit on the small-ish side, I wonder how they gonna replace all their current aircrafts. I can't believe GA would buy the A320, it will be a complete disaster if they do. But again management in Indonesia only cares about prestige and what looks good now, rather than the long term benefits. We also may never see their 787/777 purchase gonna be materialised.
  22. Well.. when your kids and wife died, all your world can crumble down. Rationality is the last thing on your mind. Anyway, I watched this one in Air Crash Investigator before, it's interesting that with the technology we have these days, mid air collisions can still happen.
  23. It is a specially modified B742 for the James Bond movie. Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but that bird will not be able to fly again, unless they un-modify those things. There's a discussion about this in A.net a while back.
  24. I hope they maintain the customer products or service, not just cutting everything. My flights with MH recently has been nothing but utter dissapointment. Unless, their pricing is really competitive, I will stay with SQ or CX.
  25. This one is a very very long way from home for a F27, wonder what's the routing like... or was it on the way for delivery?
