SQ117D

Recommended Posts

This morning I came back to KL on MI332 from SIN. After takeoff I noticed a queue of attractive ladies waiting to use to the toilet at the back of the A319. After a few minutes 2 of the ladies came out in full SQ cabin crew uniform. The rest of the people also changed into the uniform. It caused a few looks owing to the stark difference to MI’s uniforms as well as the number of them. The moved to the front of the Y cabin and remained as pax.

At KLIA I noticed them heading to a SQ 777 at C3 which was showing as SQ117D to SIN and the crew were rushed towards the aircraft.

From looking at the Changi website it seems like SQ117 was delayed overnight and left at 09:00 which is quite a delay. I wonder what the problem was?

Somehow I get reminded of scene where Ken Clark rushes into phone booth and emerges as Superman :p

But apparently Mr Clark need just a fraction of a second, whilst the SQ ladies were shall we say, at a more leisurely pace

Perfectly all in order really, considering it's the fairer gender ............... :)

Haha yes you are right - as for the ladies taking some it was 5 mins per person max.

The original crews on the delayed SQ must have exceeded their flight time, and can't operate the SQ flight back to SIN. A fresh set of crew had to take over. Given that MI is one of the earliest flight, the crew "dead head" on it to KUL.

SIA has very strict rules regarding their uniform. As a Cabin Crew, you are allowed to only wear your uniform if you are taking a taxi to the airport for duty. If you take the MRT or bus, you must be in your ordinary wear before changing into your uniform at the airport. As they were "non-rev pax" they cannot wear their uniform when boarding the MI flight and had to change in flight so that they can hurry to the delayed plane.

Sometimes you will see these girls on the MRT in T shirt and jeans... But the make up is a dead giveaway that they are heading to the airport and the uniform is stashed away in the rollerbag they are pulling. However, only those with short hair can do this because those with long hair normally end up in a French twist. Imagine t shirt and jeans with a French twist!? Salah sangat...

hahaha...true true! You should see AK's cabin crew, some even "roll-in" on the skybus, with their hair, make-up and uniform all in!

The PPS Club

Priority Passenger Service (PPS) is for passengers who have accumulated S$25,000 worth of PPS Value within a year. PPS Value is accrued while flying Singapore Airlines Suites, First Class or Business Class on Singapore Airlines, or Business Class on SilkAir. The PPS is divided into the PPS Club, Solitaire PPS Club and the Solitaire PPS Club Life.

A member with PPS Club status will qualify for Solitaire PPS Club by accumulating PPS Value of S$250,000 within five years. The Solitaire Life PPS Club status was formerly given to members who accrued a total of 1,875,000 miles (3,018,000 km) or 1,000 PPS sectors. Benefits are equal to Solitaire PPS Club members but did not have a re-qualification criteria. Singapore Airlines has since ceased accepting new Solitaire Life PPS Club members.

All PPS members have priority check-in, baggage handling, guaranteed Economy Class seats when wait-listed on Business and First Class and have access to the business-class section of the Silver Kris Lounge. Solitaire PPS members and their spouses also access First Class check-in and the First Class sections of Silver Kris Lounge.

Very obvious she was Singaporean... But with accents sometimes indistinguishable between both sides of the Causeway in an emotional moment, she could be a Malaysian for all we know.

There is a reason why I got so sickened by FFP memberships, its because of my constant encounter with people like her during my work travels. Although I have to say, it is rather rare for a PPS to flare up like this. Mostly the drama-mama ones would be the newly minted Krisflyer "SILVER" who think just because they got qualified one tier up, they own the world.

"I am a Krisflyer Silver you know? Can I be served first? Can I have my newspaper now? How come you ran out of options?"

Sometimes after you have come down back to earth from the "high" of being part of a FFP, you will realise it is just another membership so no need to rub it into other people's faces. Suffice to say, I am now a loyalty program's marketer's nightmare as I do not wish to be taken in by words on the labels any longer.

Seriously, her outburst was very unnecessary. Whatever her nationality is, I can only feel sorry for her.

The main reason was that the incoming SQ flight into KLIA sufferred a very heavy landing - and hence the plane was grounded and technical checks need to be made to ensure that the landing gears, wheels and struts are not damaged and the plane is airworthy. Hence the tech and cabin crew had a night stop in KUL and the next morning they were further questioned and make reports - and they left on a later flight the following day.
