Pieter C. 5 Report post Posted August 28, 2007 Guys, Some hard work had been accomplished by the KLM painters since last night Here's the result and she is shown here in the corner of the painting-bay for reasons to be seen later (or was it to make the life of the photographers more difficult ? ): Look at her nice dark-blue nose and proudly showing off her 'new' owner: Her English registration has been re-applied again under her wing: The tail, although not yet finished, do show the Dutch tri-color Red-White-Blue: The nacelles of the engines sport the same nice dark-blue motif and colour of the nose: Exhausts (with four pipes) are still clean and shiny: Close-up of the landing-gear configuration: Even the name has been applied already as well as the logo of The Flying Dutchman: The reason for her parking spot in the corner was Quebec-Delta in need of some minor paint-job (now you can imagine the shear size of the bay too): The four spinners are ready to be placed back soon: Just compare the size of the GE90 with the tail of the Six: What colour-scheme do you prefer, guys ? Look at the gorgeous KLM logo on the Six's nose in one of the shots below : OK, guys, the DC-6 is almost finished with her paint- and stickering job; I was able to shoot the following pictures during today's lunch-break The right hand side has been finished already, and they were still busy on the left hand side, to be ready by friday <_> Come, and enjoy the following shots: Compare the last picture with this one and what do you think ? The race-number 21 has been applied too : The classic KLM- and Douglas logos were applied too: Love this Dutch 'De Vliegende Hollander' title: Here are two shots of the Six in her full glory, one from a front angle and one from a rear one: Doesn't this look classic ? Typical 1950's style : Gavin preferred the current logo, but I definitely love this one : Trying to immitate Azahan with a nose-shot; how about this one ? : Nosewheel bay looks like this (taken with flash): Painters are still busy to apply the stickers on the left hand side of the Six: Registration has already been applied along the red line: Apologies for some blurred shots: lighting conditions were poor sometimes Hope to finish this 'reportage' for you on friday (tomorrow is my day off)... Hope to see this bird if she will ever come to NZ S V, to tell you, she won't be coming to NZ at all, most shooting for the film will be done in the Netherlands and Luxembourg Well, guys, this will be my last account of the 're-birth' of a KLM DC-6 She's sporting now a complete authentic 1950's KLM livery...hope you'll enjoy this final "chapter" Previous picture showed the red lines of where the registration should be placed; here's the result together with the 'race-number 21' and additional "Trade Wings" titles: Better close-up of the authentic 1950's Douglas logo (just lovin' it): Close-up of the exhaust-system of one of the engines: Spinners now also fitted back on the props: Drawings of how to paint & sticker this mighty Six were still lying around: Colour-scheme on paper of the plane; bottom one for the filming and the top scheme of the plane to be returned to Air Atlantique : Part of the original registration (PH)-TGA only displayed above the cockpit windows (no doubt for filming purposes as well): Close-up of the right-hand landing-gear: Emergency exit(s) are not of the 'throw away' type, but of the 'swinging' type, like a door: Wheel-well of the left-hand main landing-gear: Hope sincerely, guys, you've enjoyed this metamorphosis as much as I have !!! You're welcome, captain, glad you enjoyed her as much as I did while being re-born To answer your questions: a - she will remain G-APSA for the flying shots, as crew is Air Atlantique (British) and cannot fly PH-veteran aircraft... b - paint scheme will be 'permanent' for the airshows and filming only; she will return to Air Atlantique with a blue cheatline only (see photo above, where both schemes are shown: she will return as shown on the top aircraft in the 'basic paint scheme')... c - yes, she will return to Air Atlantique after the filming...
