Thunderstorm over KLIA

Recommended Posts

28 Oct 2006

1528h. From Jalan Pekeliling, ominous black clouds rolling in, and the occasional lightnings ...

IPB Image

... as they move towards KLIA ...

IPB Image

... and the lake.

IPB Image

1530h. MH's B737 lands.

IPB Image

1532h. AK's AFG appears ...

IPB Image

... and lands.

IPB Image

1538. MH's B722 arrives, wobbles and lands.

IPB Image

After that the sky opens up, raining cats and dogs with winds and thunder. No more landings for a while, I guess.

At least 3 aircraft diverted to PEN. And MH1153 from PEN was delayed for 31 minutes.

The 772 (last pic) wobbled quite a bit. I could see its nose pointing towards the port side a few times while landing. Crosswind must be strong.

I drove back to Shah Alam soon after that, but could only manage 60-70km/h in the left lane of the expressway. Could hardly see what was ahead!

Heheheh ... I was on the way home after dropping my son off at LCCT when I arrived at the lake (near the ERL overpass), and decided to stop and hang around. Btw no clue whether my kid's KBR flight managed to beat the nasty weather or was delayed, no news from him till now. :pardon:

It must have been very humid that day... The contrails...

Three flights diverted to PEN; what do the passengers do? Travel to KL by bus? And, snake taxis huh? Fun!

On my flite back to CGK on Emirates, we were delayed 45 mins. Pushed back from the gate no rain, as were taxing it begun to pour down. So we stopped and waiting till weather improved. That was interesting!

Hi Naim, thanks for the coverage from the pond side.

3 spotters, Raymond Ngu, Yong and myself were at the ladang side the same day. We left at around 1535 when it started to rain. <_>

We were happy as the weather in the morning was superb.

Caught this one at 1006, a bit of jam

BTW, welcome to the bright side. Only 600+ shuttle count :D

Azreen, we were waiting for the EK to depart. Too bad the weather "blew" us away early.

Oooo.. ladang side. I was wondering how to get there myself. But at the pond side, just under the planes' path, the jet sounds were awesome! Here's as close as I could get with my 200mm Tamron.
