Batik Air Malaysia is cancelling their flights left, right and center yet they are expanding as crazy. Customer service is barely in existence. I wonder how did they obtain all these approvals.

And with only two A330-300s in fleet, I wonder how can they do Jeddah, Tashkent and Istanbul concurrently. Dubai is now flown with B738MAX 8, good grief for the cabin crew. 

Dayong is the old name for ZhangJiaJie, although its main international airport Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport retains its IATA Code: DYG. I literally need to google where is DYG. LOL!

Scanning thru the fares OD are charging for their one stop KUL-NGO flights, it seems they are a little optimistic. Their fares are even higher than what the Japanese airlines charge for their one stop (in Tokyo) flights and SQ (stop in SIN)!

Batik Air Malaysia in February 2024 plans to resume 2 new domestic routes, where the airline schedules service to Sibu and Tawau, on board Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Batik Air Malaysia 1Q24 Tokyo Service Changes – 26DEC23

Batik Air Malaysia in the first quarter of 2024 once again schedules service reductions on Kuala Lumpur – Tokyo Narita route. From Kuala Lumpur, the airline schedules 4 weekly flights instead of 7, from 10JAN24 to 07FEB24. Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft operates this route.

Im seeing reports that the NRT-KUL flights are requiring a fuel stop in BKI owing to strong winds. Have not checked but would have thought that the MAX would be more than capable flying this route?

Certain seasons you have headwind up to 100knots in japan which will increase your flying time by 1 hour or more. On top of that you need fuel to loiter around(45minute holding or 2 landing attempts) and another 30-45minute of flying to your diversion sector. 

Same reason a 416 seater a339neo cant do 13hour flights nonstop westbound to europe on one direction while the same aircraft with no more than 218 passengers can do so without issues.

  • Remaining active unit is 9M-LMK. In storage: 9M-LMF, 9M-LML. Parked 9M-LMG, 9M-LMH, and 9M-LMJ

B737-800NG

  • In the magazine = 11 units
  • Planespotters.net = 10 units 
  • New addition will be 9M-LCM will be rejoining the fleet. Transferred to Batik Air Indonesia on March 13, 2020. Now back in fleet.

B737-MAX 8

  • In the magazine = 16 units
  • Planespotters.net = 16 units 

A330-343

  • In the magazine = Three units
  • Planespotters.net = Two units 
  • One additional unit which is not determined at the moment, will be interesting to know which ex-AirAsia X aircraft it will be taking.

It appears that Batik is doing in Malaysia what it cannot do in Indonesia - it is also exploiting Malaysia's air traffic rights to extend its reach.

Thank you for the information. Mystery solved. PK-LEK A330-343 MSN 1828, Configuration 18W 374Y.

Originally built for Batik Air Malaysia back in 2017, but was reallocated to Thai Lion Air in December 2017, flew as HS-LAI and returned to Lion Air Indonesia October 2019, went back and forth between Batik Air Indonesia and Lion Air. Now stored in KUL. Delivery flight to KUL was on December 20, 2023.

Hahaha, guess all the marketing people for both Malaysia Airlines Group and Lion Air Group do not take marketing communication and branding classes during their degree days. With the new A330, Batik Air Malaysia A330 fleet will have three different livery:

Due to strong headwind, od873 nrt-kul often make refuelling stop at bki. OD should make nrt-kul via tpe or bki.

Od873 8.35am departure is a challenge to take public transport from Tokyo to nrt.

This comes as a blow to many passengers, especially those who had started to rely on the service since its commencement in July.

Cutbacks in Flight Services
Moreover, the airline is also downsizing its weekly flights from Adelaide to Bali, reducing them from four to two. This decision has left many passengers disappointed, as these services were popular among travelers. The last flight from Kuala Lumpur to Adelaide arrived on Wednesday, concluding a service that had just begun a few months ago.

Hope for Restoration
Despite the suspension by Batik Air Malaysia, Adelaide Airport officials have expressed their intention to continue discussions with the airline, hoping to restore the service in the future. Meanwhile, Malaysia Airlines maintains its service offering five weekly flights directly between Kuala Lumpur and Adelaide.

Not sure what happened, but Batik Air Malaysia only started flying into ADL last year July. With this, MH will dominate ADL market.

It's a miracle that people still book Batik Air far out in advance. Batik is probably my third choice of carrier in Malaysia and I only choose that if I am flying within a week of departure. I am curious how long their SAW/Istanbul and Ashgabat flights will last.

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 13): Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy has returned as the chief executive officer (CEO) of full service carrier Batik Air Malaysia, effective from Feb 1.

He replaces Captain Mushafiz Mustafa Bakri, who has been promoted as the safety director of Batik Air Malaysia's parent company Lion Air Group of Indonesia. Mushafiz has been at the helm of Batik Air Malaysia since Sept 23, 2019.

Chandran was the first CEO of Batik Air Malaysia, formerly known as Malindo Air, from its inception in 2013 to August 2019. He was then promoted to the position of group strategy director at Lion Air Group."Under Chandran’s leadership, Batik Air Malaysia has made rapid progress on the execution of its strategy, while reporting a strong network expansion and improved service performance. This has created a solid foundation for the long-term expansion of Batik Air Malaysia and sustainable value creation for industry partners, customers and stakeholders," said the carrier in a statement on Tuesday.

Batik Air Malaysia operates a mixed fleet of three Airbus A330-300s, 27 Boeing 737-8/800 NG aircraft, and five ATR72-600s. The airline will be adding an additional three A330-300s and six 737s.

The carrier carried a total of 4.5 million passengers in 2023. It operates 800 weekly flights across 57 routes in the region.

It is a member of the Lion Air Group of Indonesia, which includes Batik Air Indonesia, Super Air Jet, Lion Air, Wings Air, Biz Jet and Thai Lion Air.

In recent days, viral on social media of terrible delays by Batik. My family members also not spared, with delays reaching 5 hours out of CGK. Anyone knows what's up?

Same issues plaguing other airlines in Malaysia. No spare aircraft when technical issues occur and it causes a cascading effect on the network.
