Sneeze...

Air Asia parked together on the tarmac of the new KUL's Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT)

These photos were taken about 7 hours after the Prime Minister of Malaysia officiated

the opening of the new terminal.

Currently Air Asia is the main user of the terminal, thus you'll see only AK aircraft there. :D

Ricky,

The tarmac closer to the tower is the "International" side

where you can see some people in the terminal

(they are actually queing at the Immigration desks..)

So for planes that are leaving for international destinations the next day

will park here for the night... ;)

Thanks for the information Uncle Norman. I always wondered how they separate out the domestic and international passengers. Now I know. :D

And thanks to you, Azahan and Emperor for all the great shots. And of course my respect for all the guys working the in tower so hard at night. :)

Next time, ask them to request parking near the tower...

I didn't forget our Cargo Master... Mr Nizam for you...

IPB Image

Altho' PapaRomeo already arrived... was in Hangar <_>

Pieter... so sorry... didn't have KLM in my CF :(

Yu Loh... Air Traffic Controller is a government job

and the job are advertise in major local newspaper from time to time

based on vancancies. If not mistaken, now you've to take a Diploma Course

from UTM in Air Traffic Control/Management, before they absorb you into 1.5 years

Certificate Course from DCA's College. The course in UTM is not regular course

also, based on DCA demands.. Have a look out from time to time... :D

Also check DCA's website www.dca.gov.my or www.dcaklia.gov.my

Nice photos.

May I know if all PAX have to walk on the apron to the LCCT or there would have shuttle bus service for those parked far away?

Also if the aircraft needs any push back vehicles for departure? ;)

Sneeze,

All pax have to walk to/from terminal on the apron. No bus provided.

If not mistaken, furthest you've to walk is about 300m. :p

Aircraft will be pushed back from parking position right to main taxiway

before engine start... remember... during peak hours... many pax around :D

During lean hours, if there's no other aircraft in the quadrant (a quadrant has 6 bays)

aircraft is allowed to park in the middle of quadrant designated as PIPO parking

(PIPO=Power In Power Out). Thus no need for pushback... more like parking in

Ipoh, Alor Setar and few others now...

So does anyone have any idea what the airport management will do when it is a rainy day? Do they give umbrellas to passangers or something?

Thanks Master Norman,

I have got a further clear concept on the LCCT.

If then, PAX will face big problem when there is rain and storms.

Excellent cover stories and photos, Guys !!

Really the envy of me back in Lion city. I will never get this chance to visit, shoot in Hangars etc etc over here. Not even photograph on the tarmac (has it's own risk here). :( Unless have security clearance or special permission like those who shot A380s during the A380's first Asian tour last year.

Fabulous & thanks a million for sharing!! :D Keep the tower views coming.

Happy spotting,

Colin

What happens if its a rainy day...do they provide umbrellas or bus?

How far is the LCCT from the main terminal to catch int'l flight?. Is it true that you need to pay MYR2 to get a ride to the terminal? What about luggages? It seems that passengers must carry them all the way to the terminal?

If these are the facts, then some passengers may still choose to fly with regular carrier.

it is because of that distance from the LCCT to the MTB that i find it hard to fly AK now...

i fly back from school in singapore for holidays, and to connect to tawau on AK used to be easy, from arrivals just go up two floors and check in again, but now much naik bus, and dunno what else you need to do... better fly MH la.... or stay in KL overnight

So would that be a stumbling stone of AK or even KLIA?

Yes, true Sanjay...

Low Cost... so "any" service you require, please "pay"

The amount you pay relates to the service you'll receive :D

This what was related to me...

If it's rain... you'll borrow umbrella to/from a/craft;

If it's rain heavily... you'll still get wet with umbrella....

boarding/disembark will stop/postpone until rain subsides

Shuttle service LCCT-MTB is RM1.50 one way

I would suggest, if you're from KL Sentral & take the ERL

use the Transit (not Express) and stop at Salak Tinggi

& take the Shuttle Salak Tinggi-LCCT @ RM1.50... nearer..

BTW... I think OT already... there's a related thread in General Aviation regarding this ;)

Bro...

did you use a starlight filter when taking the night shots?

I don't think Azahan using starlight filter that night.

You'll get that effect if you use small aperture (large f number)

The numbers of star "legs" depend on number of shutter leaves in the lens.

For starlight filters... the leg will be longer and depending on type no.

such as No.4, 4 legs or No.8, 8 legs etc...

And regarding camera on tarmac... we saw a few pax snapping away while walking

to the terminal that night.... :D
