Ashraf 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2011 It's a no brainer the way LCC operates - keep the price low and attractive and you will take away other airlnes' market share. Legacy airlines have no other choice if they want to retain their market share, they need to do what it takes such as setting up their own LCC to regain their lost market share. Everybody gives credit to Tony Fernandes for the success of Air Asia. But to me, it is a module that is so simple to emulate and it was just a matter of time before the likes of SQ retaliate. Let's see if Air Asia will be able to make the same kind of profit, 2 years from now.
Johan Z 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2011 It's not just AirAsia, SQ wants to combat EK (and other gulf carriers) offering low prices on long-haul.
Waiping 12 Report post Posted May 27, 2011 That means more demand for durian..... and increase in price. Better not. Something that other airlines banned but allowed on this? SQ may have a lot of questions to answer.
Mohd Azizul Ramli 2 Report post Posted May 27, 2011 The first threat of this new airline has arisen. Forumers at SQ Talk are busy discussing about Business Times Singapore published an article that mentioned SQ will transfer a dozen of its B772 to this new airline. Now D7 took 4 years to build its current fleet of 11 aircrafts. This new airline will get 12 in just a snap.

alberttky 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2011 SINGAPORE: Singapore Airlines (SIA) has formed a new subsidiary company for its proposed low-cost airline, which is expected to start operations within a year. The wholly-owned subsidiary, New Aviation, has been incorporated on Friday with an issued and paid up capital of S$1. In a filing with the Singapore Exchange, SIA said the new unit will be involved in "air transport" activities. A company spokesperson said the subsidiary is set up for the new low-cost airline and it was just a "technical step". In May, SIA said the new no-frills, low-fare airline will operate wide-body aircraft on medium and long-haul routes. SIA said that following extensive review and analysis, it is setting up the low-cost airline to address growing consumer demand for budget travel. The new airline will be operated and managed separately from SIA. SIA said that more details will be announced by the new airline's management team at a later date, including its branding, products and services, and route network. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporebusinessnews/view/1135770/1/.html
Y. J. Foo 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2011 Are they going to operate under that name or another one? With that kind of name I can imagine a whole lot of confusion among Mandarin speakers...
KC Sim 2 Report post Posted June 18, 2011 With a start-up capital of just S$1, it sure is a low cost carrier indeed. But New Aviation is definitely not the name of the airline that will be established - perhaps just a holding company from where everything else associated with the new LCC will be formulated without being linked to Singapore Airlines. Could not have been a more unimaginative name though. KC Sim
