Finnair to Langkawi

LANGKAWI, Dec 1 (Bernama) -- The number of tourists arriving from the Scandinavian and Baltic countries to Langkawi is expected to increase with the introduction of charter flights by Finn Air to the resort island beginning Dec 8.

 

The Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) tourism manager, Megat Shaharul Azman Abas said the airline would make 11 direct flights weekly up to March 2011 from Finland to langkawi.

 

"Each flight carries more than 200 tourists from Finland and the Scandinavian and Baltic countries such as Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Estonia and Latvia (former countries of Soviet Russia)," he told Bernama, here today.

 

According to the records of the Lada Tourism Unit, more than 50,000 tourists from the Scandinavian and Baltic countries had visited Langkawi during the first six months of this year while more than 80,000 came last year.

 

On the joint promotion between Tourism Malaysia and tour agencies and hotels in London recently, he said the response had been encouraging.

 

He said the United Kingdom market was important for Langkawi in attracting more tourists from Europe to the resort island.

LANGKAWI, 8 Dis (Bernama) -- Penerbangan sewa khas Finnair, iaitu syarikat penerbangan kebangsaan Finland, ke pulau Langkawi yang dijadual tiba petang ini, ditunda ke 15 Dis ini.

 

Pengurus Pelancongan Lembaga Pembangunan Langkawi (Lada) Megat Shaharul Azman Abas berkata penundaan itu disebabkan oleh faktor yang tidak dapat dielakkan.

MH tried once with KUL-ARN-EWR remember? And if I'm not mistaken, the loads for the KUL-ARN sector wasn't that great.

no demand for business class perhaps? Most of the passengers are leisure tourists.

I thought there was this thing were Malaysian can only fly out on Malaysian carrier...meaning AY have to return with an empty flight. Is this kind of operation feasible? Or do AY station their planes here until the return flight?

 

I remembered when KCH and BKI get their share of charter flights from China...now they cant or rather wont fly just because they are not allow to carry Malaysian passengers out?

Working together with Europe's premier Tour company Hotelplan, we made plenty of money for MAS but the plan was scuppered by management who alleged that we were cannabilising passengers from scheduled services. After that they diverted the flights tp Phuket.

Probably expect those holidaying people (whose vacation time is probably more precious than a busy CEO's ) to make their way from Malpensa to Rome, wait, fly from Rome to KUL, wait, fly from KUL to LGK and repeat exercise in reverse order on way home

Probably shave a day or two off their vacation by being stuck in planes and airports

We identified a new market, which traditionally would go to Thailand or Bali, operated out of Malpensa bcoz Sales blocked Charter Opns on Routes operated by scheduled flights, even though Rome to langkawai is not a scheduled route.

 

Its about a percieved threat to their KPI. Or worried that another Department can do better. So its ok for the company to lose money as long as personal KPI is intact. Worked very hard with an Italian counterpart on this, who quit a year later in disgust partly because of this affair. Truly pathetic.

We now know that some factions in MH also blocks itself! So MH does not really act in the best interests of Malaysia.

 

They not only block competitors like AirAsia X, they also block themselves! No wonder it is now in such deep $hit.

 

The new management at MH really has its work cut out. And as more stories emerge, it looks like they may be asked to do an impossible job.

To be fair, top management may not be fully aware bcoz stats can be manipulated to skew the full picture. However, having someone with quick thinking business acumen will be able to see through the BS. I dare say someone like TF ( not was licking here, just a realistic opinion ) could have made some difference.

Over 3,000 Scandinavian Tourists to Visit Langkawi

According to the Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) as reported in Bernama, Langkawi is anticipating the arrival of more than 3,380 tourists from the Scandinavian countries between now, December 2011 and March 2012.

 

Lada Principal Assistant Manager for tourism, Azmil Munif Bukhari said on Sunday, 18 December 2011, the tourists are expected to arrive in 13 chartered flights of the Finnish airline, Finnair.

 

“The first flight arrived yesterday,” he told Bernama.

 

Azmil Munif added 53,062 tourists from Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway visited Langkawi last year.

 

Langkawi is served daily by the scheduled flights of Malaysia Airlines (MAS), AirAsia, Firefly and Berjaya Air as well as Silk Air of Singapore.
