  1. AF, very much like BA and QF are just not interested to fly to KUL; nor give a bigger share to MH to fly instead.. not when they all have big ops into BKK/SIN.... double standards and arrogance....that's all i can say. i'm glad MH has a friend in KLM (although i wonder for how much longer....with this AF-KL merger!) do you remember how LH arrogantly stated that they would NEVER re-consider flying to KUL (after the suspension in 1998) as whatever KLIA did was 'too little, too late'... and they were proud of their Star Alliance Hubs of BKK/SIN... look at them eat their own words when they restarted flights to KUL in 2004! and change it to MUC-KUL (i guess after failing to compete with MHs superior B777 service from FRA)...
  2. its about time kul got a link to moscow... we used to have flights to BRU, SOF, BEG, PRG, ZAG, MAD, AMM...its seems a lifetime ago now.. well....restarting KUL-SVO/DME links are a start!
  3. bloody hell....never realised SQ has only 27 B747-400... thought they had about 50 or so a few years back... (i realise that they have another 14 with their cargo division...) have they been quietly replacing them with the T7s?
  4. yeah....SQ is definitely on the list....while they don't fly to as many places as EK...they own sizeable portions of many airlines...including VS!!! they are or were the most profitable airline in the world... what matters is not flying to a destination with 10-20 flights a day but MAKING MONEY!!!! they now want to get more money off the Ozzie-US route which is rightly controlled by QF...and to a lesser extent UA. (its like JL wanting to get a big share of the CDG - JNB route....or some other totally random route) but i suppose if QF makes use of SIN as a hub....then SQ maybe has the right to do the same in SYD/MEL... either way...they are big fat greedy money grabbers...kiasu as hell!
  5. who wants to bet that the ONE MAJOR AIRLINE that will commence flights to KLIA will be air sahara??? they just keep on saying crap all the time.... i will be really disappointed in BA or QF do not resume services this year...so i'm just lowering my expectations! MAHB.... going below expectations... i think it will be difficult to get VS to fly to KUL....since SIA owns 49% of the airline. unless....they decide that they want a share of the kangaroo route via KUL...
  6. i dont understand why KUL lags behind BKK and SIN in terms of business traffic when KUL is the economic powerhouse of Malaysia.... thailand does not have as great an economy as Malaysia....singapore definitely has a strong base.... i bet you that many european businessmen travel to KUL via SIN.... why are all these airlines refusing to fly to KL?? even with the waived landing charges/airport fees....we can't even get lesser airlines such as Ethiopian, air seychelles, air madagascar, air zimbabwe, transaero to fly to KUL... forget about BA/QF/NW/UA/SK/AY/TK/RJ/NH/OZ/SU/NZ/SR obviously the big hubs will get bigger and bigger and the small/medium sized hubs (i.e. KUL) will keep losing out on traffic.. SIN handled 30 million last year cf KUL 21.5 million..... we're not growing as fast as SIN/BKK...and now SIN has got LCCs operating from it.... i've been hoping and hoping since i was like 9 years old....but somehow we have been, are and will always be at the bottom of the list. after 17 years....i've finally given up!! i can't believe it but the time has finally come when i'm just not bothered anymore. MAB is crap and they just don't have the drive and initiative to take KLIA further.. they need people who actually KNOW something about the airline industry and tourism....or even better....with some common sense!!!! just my two cents worth....
  7. sorry...forgot to add something.... the israelis managed to airlift 1000 people on a stripped down B747 during the evacuation of jews from ethiopia in 1984....look up operation solomon online...
  8. man...i was sweating away while listening to the pilots....i felt so sorry for them...imagine the terror they must have been facing... apparently the 4 that survived sat in the back row... i think travelling by Y class is not such a bad thing after all!
  9. razif, razif...where did you read in the history books about singapore opting out of malaysia..... like all the others said...singapore was expelled from the federation by our PM.... lee kuan yew apparently had intentions to bring PAP into the peninsular and also wanted to have the chance to be the PM..
  10. forget robin hood airport.....that area is adequately served by Manchester, Leeds Bradford airport, newcastle, teeside, humberside etc.etc.... too many airports already in the midlands/yorkshire... If MH were to fly to other destinations in the UK, it should be GLA or EDI .... DUB in ireland could be a possibility... First and foremost....3xdaily to LHR, daily to MAN, EWR, LAX, CDG....
  11. final plan calls for 3 more satellite buildings, a second MTB and 3 extra runways that can handle 100 million pax/year
  12. i hope they stay on too!!! yeah...like kandiah said...i'm surprised there was no mention of the airline at all in the press or on the klia website
  13. just a few things about subang in the old days....i lived in ss14/3 subang in the 80s...just underneath the flight path of subang.... i miss the aeroflot IL-62, CSA IL-62, JAT DC-10, Sabena DC-10, TK A310, BA Tristar, RJ Tristar, UTA 747, SQ 757, QF 747/767, NZ 767, LZ 767, KU 767, Air seychelles 767, MK 74L.....man....those were the days... anyways....the 707 in kelana jaya was a PIA aircraft that got written off during landing at subang...i remember seeing it in KJ and wondering when the restaurant was going to open.. there was a restaurant near the airtel that was really good....my parents used to take me to shiraz for good north indian meals....i've not tasted anything as good as that until now! (they also used to have a branch near MARA HQ in KL)... i went to see the A300 when it crashed...it was just across the road from the runway... surprised everyone survived it! didn't have a camera then.... the JAL DC-8 had survivors..... a few died but many were treated in KLGH.... i know that because my dad was the trauma registrar in KLGH at that time! and the reason subang is named Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah is because he was the sultan of selangor.... just like sultan abdul halim shah in AOR, or sultan mahmud in TGG ....
  14. thanks imran........i'm around in KL from today (mon 18/7) to saturday (23/7)...so anytime in between will be good. insyaAllah will be leaving for LHR on MH001 2345h on saturday... if anyone is organising anything...count me in...let me know though!
  15. LOL... well....pieter....i am your son! don't you remember that night 26 years ago??? haha...only joking man...
  16. hey guys...i thought i was the only guy who was interested in spotting in KLIA for the past few years....!!! this is before i knew of you guys... i've tried a few times to get up the observation hill...keep getting chased off by the police.... i'll be back in KL for about a week.....how about meeting up for a session between 18 - 23rd of july??? doesn't have to be at night....would like to meet some of you guys in person
  17. okay...my turn! god, i feel so old already...you're all so young! name: Muhammad age: 26 address: Kingston-upon-Hull in the UK (otherwise i'm an ampang boy!) job: surgical trainee camera: aiyo....mine is ixus II with so little zoom function....need to buy new one lah... my photos have really tiny planes on them!!
  18. hehe..glad you're okay man. i was once a passenger in a BA 744 from LHR-KUL 4 years ago which aborted take-off... we just turned around and tried the second time.... it was a bit scary the first time as the speed was increasing but we were not lifting off... cool at the same time though!!
