  1. This MYY/BKI/HKG vv thing is I believe an opportunistic piece of PR brilliance - MH just need to continue doing what they have been doing for years, only redesignate the flight numbers for MYY/BKI vv sectors from MH2xxx to MH3xx on certain days ! The hardware (734) utilised does BKI-MYY-BKI-HKG-BKI-MYY-BKI circuit (please correct me if wrong) on those days. For this reason Miri travel agents I understand have been able to offer MYY-HKG 'direct' same aircraft connection for a while already. Not sure if pax were required to go through immigration formalities at BKI back then though. Also, whether the MYY/BKI vv sectors are code shared with Dragonair ? BTW, can anyone forsee KCH requesting for additional HKG frequencies, now that MYY has 4x weekly as opposed to KCH's 3x weekly services ?
  2. Believe me Pieter, if it's an order by MAS, it will probably be accompanied by such fanfare here you'll get to hear the 'kompang' at Seattle and see the fireworks at Amsterdam ! Well, maybe not but we're sure to have had 'previews' in the press and 'breaking news' here in MyWings anyway !
  3. Thanks for those fascinating insights and pics Fairul. Said it before, needs saying again - priceless what one can learn from this place here !!
  4. Well, this and this sure doesn't gel for sure !!
  5. If memory serves me right, the ones currently at BKI, the old old ones at KCH and those from Subang (apparently now reinstalled at various other airports in EM, eg. SDK) were purchased from Mitsubishi (Japanese) Nice to note that in the twenty years or so since, we can now manufacture our own. Not that these involve rocket science technology, but still a step in the right direction ! BTW Fairul, how involved are you with KKIA project ? You seem to have very detailed info available !! (Not only of KKIA mind you)
  6. What about the existing installed aerobridges at KUL and PEN - also by MASI ? Any idea ? I noticed the new ones at KCH are 'made in Shanghai' or something like that
  7. You do realize you have called into question the professional integrity of those A & B engineers involved in the design as well as the marketing teams preaching about virtues of the winglets ?! What do they call the 'wingtip enchancements' they are putting on newer 777 models as well as the 747-8 - just can't recall for now
  8. This is Kerajaan Malaysia and MAS we're discussing here, which should give some indication that rationality of thoughts will be hard to come by ................
  9. Try looking at it from 'cash flow' perspective !!
  10. My guess - when it comes to once in a blue moon, mega valued, 'prestige' projects such as airports, the "need" factor gets relagated to near insignificance !! BTW, the proposed interior looks more like a 5 star hotel lobby !
  11. Reuters report says pax were "offloaded" whilst richie_ja's version (via Keith's link) suggests pax did not board. So, anyone knows what really happened ?! Also from richie_ja's entry, the pilot really reminds me of my housemaster in boarding school !!
  12. Having said that, I suspect it will be a very interesting investigation, of circumstances leading up to the incident and subsequent challenge for BA's PR dept. From the brief report so far, some things do not quite add up
  13. I for one admire the pilot for having the guts to make that decision
  14. Not as eloquently as you SV !! BTW, shouldn't it be "67" instead ?! Sam, SV's explanation better than mine ! Yeah, '9' can also sound like 'long time' - or 'dog' too. Oh the possibilities !
  15. Are they cannibalising the Tristar for spares or breaking her up as scrap ? Either way, sure looks a protracted and undignified end
  16. I reckon Bill Clinton's "being economical with the truth" comes quite close to that !!
  17. Or it could be that Boeing did not give a ...... about these superstitious numberings, perhaps not back in those days ! Actually, if the pronounciation of number 7 is colloquailly (sic?) taken in Cantonese, can be quite unfavourable isn't it ?! Try number 9 too ! Geesh, better stop before I get blacklisted around here !!
  18. Probably too late, you're likely to have contributed (positively, constructively or otherwise) to the ongoing A vs B battle and concurrently EC vs US trade war !!
  19. How are we to know that FireFly was not established for this very purpose, ie undertake MH's RAS operations via FAX route ? Please don't get me wrong, I'm of opinion it isn't quite right for FAX to try pass on 'obligations' of RAS to another party after having secured the more lucrative domestic routes upon undertaking of the said 'obligations' But then, we should factor in other considerations : 1) Corporate-Political deals formulated behind the scenes, well, away from public scrutiny anyway 2) That is the way the corporate world works - if it ain't the goose laying the golden egg, pass the buck on to someone else !
  20. Hear, hear ! The 707 did look slendid in the old MAS colours, wherever in the world it was pictured at. Thank goodness we have a 1:400 representation available, to be oggled at leisure !! As far as I can remember, I was only ever on a MH 707 once, on our way KUL (SZB now) to home (BKI) after undergoing my interview at British consulate (for student visa) I think it was after the DC-10's arrived and the 707's were thus available for deployment on the busier domestic sectors. Yep, nostalgia creeping in again !
  21. Excellent food for thought !!
  22. Similarly, it was once suggested that Airbus labelled the whale A380 just in case Chinese airlines are more easily impressed with the sound of it !! BTW, perhaps this would be useful for non-cantonese speaking members here : 3 - (sounds like) alive 4 - die 8 - prosper 13 - must be alive 14 - must die (!!) 18 - must prosper 23 - easy to stay alive (?) 24 - easy to die 28 - easy to get rich 38 - alive and living prosperously
  23. Just a thought - would Chinese airlines retain row 13 and omit row 14 instead (also row 24 too ?) ?!!
  24. At a very, very advanced stage of negotiation don't you think
