  1. Hmm... are those timings Zulu? 0400H departure from CGK? One of the LARGEST weak links in MH's structure would be their marketing efforts. If they cannot even get their act together on "MH... More than just and airline code...", what's more is it is just a small little market like CGK-MEL? I am sorry guys, but I give this route a year to survive, much like KUL-SYD-MEL-KUL, KUL-BNE-SYD-KUL, and may other strange routings on their Aussie sectors which never survived.
  2. Great... Another awesome addition of materials to the sitcom that is MAS. Perhaps they are trying to eeke out high yielding pax from Jakarta? And the largest international carrier operating out of CGK is non other than SQ. So good luck to MH, I say. To look at things from a larger perspective, you need to take the Kangaroo route into account. It seems like they have learnt nothing from the long haul to KUL via Langkawi/Penang fiasco.
  3. SQ's 3-class 777-200 do not have the range to fly to ZRH.
  4. Unless MH get their revenue management in order, it is unlikely we'll see MH return to ZRH any time soon.
  5. Finalised? Dude... there isn't even a plan.
  6. So why did they refuse miles on my L Class KUL-SYD?
  7. Wrong... There are DIRECT flights to PER and BLR transitting in SIN. Just that these flights aren't NONSTOP.
  8. Zam Zam is an institution man... I have been visting this stuffy and perpetually oily-floored coffee shop since I was 4 yrs old. I last ate there before xmas last year and it is still as good. Although now the upper floor has been air conditioned, it is negotiating the steep wooden stairs, walking about the oily floors downstairs (yes they are still after all these years!) and having your clothes smell like prata (you Malaysians call it canai) that brings back sweet memories. If you are ever down here again, give me a buzz. Murtabak on me!
  9. You referring to Restoran Zam Zam opposite Masjid Sultan? Yes I like my drives up north... But KL's the limit dude.
  10. Darling, Penang is at best a 10 hr drive from Spore, a bit too far to pop by for dinner and drive back laaaah. The gist of the comments earlier on was about the viability of the SIN-MKZ route because it is much easier to drive up in 2 hrs for a meal and back. LOL! Yes I agree, for me as a "budak" Peranakan, Penang is my last foothold on the rapidly vanishing culture of my forefathers. Even the language will die with the passing of my grandmother as my parents are hardly living examples of people who can speak Peranakan. My last visit to Gurney Drive was somehow less than stellar and prices werent exactly cheap for Malaysian standards because they too have been bastardised by the tourists $$$. I was somehow happier at Esplanade eating my Mee Goreng melayu.
  11. Egypt is considered to be AFRICA, no?
  12. You don't understand... Coming from Singapore, they have basically wiped out places like Chinatown / Arab Street / Joo Chiat into some Stepford looking show village for tourists to take photos of. Melaka offers us the opportunity to experience an olden charm which we Singaporeans are so yearning for. Perhaps the younger generation won't know what I mean but people of my age will surely miss the crumbling walls and the dirty drains of Chinatown while you are slurping down a bowl of hot steaming dumpling noodles. Melaka is what Singapore was like perhaps 10-20 years ago. Yes, we are a deprived bunch of people down here. BUT that being said, Melaka is steadily becoming very expensive and I have seen the changes sweep through the town especially within the last 3-4 years. Alas, the modernisation of Melaka has begun. New malls, renovated facades, chic bistros taking the place of quirky kopitiams etc.... Even the Peranakan makan places I have seen the prices rise by as much as RM8 for their dishes. So perhaps soon Melaka will be just another "show village" like what has become of the Chinatown in Singpapore. My Malaysian friends will NEVER understand why we drive to Melaka for dinner. "You crazy or what?! One more hour you can go to KL already!".... But this is us, bursting out of the claustrophobic confines of our tiny little island for a breather.
  13. I am not sure how successful SIN-MKZ will be. It takes only 2 hours for me to get there by car (Tuas - Ayer Keroh). Not to mention Bk Berendam Airport is situated damn far from the town proper. Sometimes I drive to Melaka for dinner and back to Singapore on the same evening!
  14. There is nothing surprising about this move lah. As much as we want Senai to be connected to various international cities, ask yourself how much people really do fly out of there? And while the push to target Singaporeans to fly out from Senai, until the notorious Causeway jams can be sorted out, we can be assured that numbers from the island down south will continue to be few and far in between. Of the times I have flown out of JHB on MH, none of those trips did we have a full load on the shuttle bus leaving from Singapore. In fact, all those rides had loads less than half full. An airport's success is also tied to the economic development of the city it serves. Until IDR takes off (and that is a BIG "if"), Senai will probably remain the way it is.
  15. Good lord... The A330 flew to ARN?! EDIT: Silly me only after I posted then i realised what you meant. Please disregard.....
  16. Armed with that minset, even your regular MH snack box will be a feast worthy of royalty.
  17. So there is light at the end of the tunnel. See? You are all so quick to put down Enrich.
  18. The negative growth of MAS could be contributed by the implementation of successive BTPs. So it is by design, no?
  19. Ahmad said his government was also in discussion with China Airlines to operate a direct flight from Guangzhou, China to Kuala Terengganu. Since when does China Airlines operate out of Guangzhou?
  20. Phew... at least now MAS can excuse themselves for not having a long haul a/c replacement plan. "If the regional airlines are parking their planes, I think I should too... RIGHT?"
  21. There will be a tender to be sent out for contractors to remove the trees.... A need to draft out the tender..... 1.5 months Send out notice to the vendors about the tender, publish in the press..... 2 months Go through the charade of the tender but awarding it finally to a crony who is related to Najib / Badawi / Mahathir / [feel free to insert anyone else from parliament] who never really participated in the tender... 6 months So..... 1.5+2+6 = 9.5 months!
  22. KK needs a place like 1Borneo. Malls like Centerpoint and the likes are already showing their age and crumbling as we speak. Although situated a little out of the way, perhaps 1Borneo's location can help ease the small city center's traffic a little. If you do not have new malls, people will start commenting on how boring KK is. Build new malls, people also comment who wants to go... So how like that? Trust me, 1Borneo will ease into it's existence in time to come and perhaps bring some life to the surroundings.
  23. What will his jobscope be? Won't anyone write to the NST's Forum to question what will the tax payer's money be used for in this instance? Great - perhaps under his guidance, MAS will truly be a 5 Star airline!
  24. SIN-SYD used to be one of those routes where we had a plethora of airlines plying it. Now you are really limited to BA, QF and SQ. However among them, you have a total of no less than 7 daily flights between these 2 cities so you would be spoilt for choice frequency-wise, no?
