  1. Izanee, Youre right. The food does sound pathetic compared to recent years, according to your description. How much did you/or company paid for the ticket btw? You're probably better off flying SQ or EK for KUL-europe long haul these days....
  2. Possibly to cover additional costs to add security personnel after the whole stowaway fiasco. Only for 6 months. Until after the storm has calmed.....
  3. yeah i believe he is.... quite frequent his visits to Penang I observe...
  4. Are all SIA trainees based at Jandakot or are there any based in Malaysia?
  5. This doesn't come as a surprise at all. Terrorists has been boarding at MAB's airports for hijackings before at least twice. Stowaways, etc. More than once a friend of mine had accidentally hand-packed his dagger which he uses for his rock climbing trips in sabah, as a hand-carry. And he was never stopped.
  6. Naah I hope no offence is taken. I was just trying to put the comments accross with as much wit as possible. Apologies. No doubt Tony has himself and Airasia in mind most of the time in his decisions. Us Joes and Janes are just trying to benefit from it as much as we can. And whilst I agree that busy people relax whenever they can even on flights, and quality should be first and foremost in a premium-priced air ticket, I think everyone should have a choice between easy-relaxed-flights and cheapo-no-frills-fighting-civil-war-for-window-seats-flights. Choice is imperative. And, for flights between KUL and SIN currently, people are not given this choice.
  7. Its amazing that he survived the flight, at all! whats the max cruise alt on the 777 from here to SIN? must be more than 20000ft, at least..... How'd he breath at that altitude i wonder...
  8. So i'm not the only one who notices the amount of pro-MH premium business-class "ohh-they-served-my-latte-in-a-round-mug-this-time? b/s! i-want-my-latte-in-a-classy-cup-now!! and-bring-my-creme-broullet-immediately!!" people here. Respect to them for being up the food chain... But, Average Joe and Jane says, bring more cheap flights around!! We don't really care about a few inch differences in seat pitch or lattes in a mug.
  9. Has any pilots on this board flown into yesilkoy before? I flew there thrice and on all occasions, approach speed feels so damn fast, with a lot of late corrections on final. Passenger's point of view isnt much......maybe some pilots here can share more...
  10. With first flight targeted at end of first quarter 08, means around March-april...... I seriously doubt that they can make December 08 delivery, considering the amount of kinks and screwups that will be found during test flights. Especially with such a ground breaking new tech plane such as this. But then again, ive been working with airbus. heh heh. maybe they will lar. but i seriously doubt it tho....
  11. The environment sounds fitting for a typical icing problem. I saw a wreckage of one cessna caravan which dropped like a rock, due to icing on the wing, and believe me you'd have to stare long and hard before you could realize that pile of junk used to be an airplane. It could drop so quick maybe no one had time to grab their chutes...

    AirAsia X

so i'd imagine there'd be 2 stops before they reach MAN? anyone with insider scoop on this?
  13. tailstrike upon landing? must be quite a flare? this is quite unusual isnt it?
  14. Another one of those typical politician's pre-election agenda don't you think? TGG doesn't even have full loads on its current flight schedule on narrowbodies.
  15. I heard the academy boys and girls fly there on occasions. Maybe the students themselves can confirm this.
  16. The terms can mean a lot of things, im not sure what you mean by aircraft engineering, but assuming its aircraft maintenance engineering, then its different to aerospace/aeronautical engineering. refer to my earlier post for the differences. you can be shortsighted, to become an engineer, in general. Although it depends on the severity of your short sightedness. only a few companies in the world i know that would have short-sighted limits to become and engineer. maybe MAS engineers on this thread can answer better...
  17. Correct me if im wrong, so AKX is gonna run with ONE aircraft until sept 2008??? I imagine im wrong with the above statement, so how many leased a330s are they getting before that date?
  18. In conclusion, if youre doing an aerospace/aeronautical engineering degree, Forget local unis. Go abroad. My 2 cents.
  19. Why do lumber companies here still use those old 1970s TATA or merc lorries, when they can very well provide better work-environment for their lorry drivers, save a bit of fuel, and look good by buying brand new VOLVO 22-wheeler trucks. It gets the job done. Initial cost is SO much cheaper than buying new planes, that the offset of fuels lost via bad fuel consumption is well covered by the savings of getting the airplane. Plus some of them are so old, their lease-to-own has finished, meaning "habis-bayar"! So theyre just reaping the profits whilst only paying for fuel, spare parts and MX. UPS is still flying DC-8s today for this reason.
  20. Aerospace/Aeronautical engineering degree: USM UPM UTM maybe more.... - Gives you theorethical aeronautical engineering knowledge - Aerospace jobs opportunity - Design, R&D, Manufacturing, Airlines Tech Services - NON Aerospace jobs opportunity - Throughout mechanical engineering market. Oil n Gas, HVAC, etc etc - 4 years Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (License, LAME) - Airasia, MAS, MIAT?, Overseas courses - Gives you detailed aircraft maintenance skills - Aerospace job opportunity - LAME with airlines - Better starting 0-5 yrs exp pay comparatively with degree holders - NON aerospace jobs opportunity - NONE (except if you open own business, i mean none that utilises the license) - 3 years ++ including type rating feel free to add to this guys, i know its nowhere near a complete summary. Michiyiki, I am working in the industry, having chosen the first option above. Do PM me if you have questions.
  21. Loud T-tailed yellowish plane eh? My money's on Transmile 727. Or it could be a very dirty RMAF fokker 100.
  22. This piece of heritage should be restored, and maintained. And also, I just found out that Riau Airlines flies direct to Pekanbaru from Melaka 5-times weekly. That would make it Melaka International Airport wouldn't it?
  23. Yes, and more! Current technology allows composite materials to be analyzed for all the stress/loads put on the panels, and the layout design of the carbon composite plies are exactly done to accomodate these loads. You'd be surprised how many thousand design/stress analysis hours are used on just a simple trailing/leading edge carbon composite panel. Plus I believe fatigue and damage tolerance (F&DT) lifecycle predictions are more accurate when it comes to composites rather than metallics, because you get rid of the corrosion factor. Metallics are always more susceptible to environmental affects.
  24. I remember transmile being the cheapest option for an 18yr old boy raring to go to east malaysia for a backpacking trip those days.
