Pieter C. 5 Report post Posted November 7, 2008 There is never a dull moment at Schiphol Airport - truly one of the most remarkable aviation spotting location anywhere in the world. The variety of locations is mind-boggling and one could get approach, touchdown, rollout after landing, line-up, take-off, rotation, climbout . . . shots. And just about every day, there is something special or unexpected, especially for this deprived spotter from Singapore. My early memories of LOT are from its B707s and IL-62Ms that operated to Singapore . . . Glad, you've enjoyed your trip to NL and Schiphol !!! Please, enlighten me on the LOT 707's, as I never knew they operated them
KC Sim 2 Report post Posted November 7, 2008 Sorry, it was not LOT B707s . . . got that mixed up with Tarom. LOT only had the IL62s here in SIN initially. KC Sim

KC Sim 2 Report post Posted November 24, 2008 Was in the mood to dig up some older shots . . . taken in June 2007 when I went to the Netherlands and Hamburg. Highlight of this visit is the brief visit to Lelystad on 6 June 2007 and the chance to meet up with a grand old Dutch Lady - PH-AJU Uiver. The staff of the museum was kind enough to hold back the endless stream of visitors to allow me a couple of shots on the far side of this beauty. He was probably kinder knowing that I have come this far from Singapore. Another silver machine of more recent vintage is JAL Cargo's first B747-400ERF JA401J rotating at Schiphol Airport. A more interesting combination is this shot of cows grazing right beneath the flight path. KC Sim

Pieter C. 5 Report post Posted December 4, 2008 I think it was the horny Hongkonger who was hitting on the Dutch lady . . . KC Sim Exactly, KayCee, the horny Hotel-Uniform-Alpha hit the stationary Kilo-Charley-Golf; CX left winglet-less with an approximately 5 hour delay back to HKG - KL will be out-of-service for about 5-6 weeks, as not only the winglet but also the wing-structure damaged by the mishap See also http://www.scramble.nl/forum/viewtopic.php...sc&start=15 and check the picture posted by LCAG (page 2) (sorry, most text in Dutch, but you get the idea)... Cornelis Boersma 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2008 I spent a day at EHAM here some results, not the best weather, but just trying something different and look for banking shot place ENJOY! After a few bankers to RWY 06 for RWY 24 departures Surinam 743 with behind Martinair Cargo MD11F (PHMCP) lined up. The lights of MCP looks like engine fire for Surinam? Here PH-MCP departing, I always see pollution on PW powered MD11s, not very common seen on GE, is this optical illusion? Must be I guess. KL MD11 ready for departure while companies 744 is on final approach for 27 Then to RWY 18R for approaches with a small stop near one of the taxiways. First arrival to see on 18R KLM T7 Then at least 10th time to see, but finally first time to photograph a KLM 737-700 Another tripple KLM brandew E-Jet struggling crosswinds And finally SQ 744F comming in at dawn After this 747 rushing to the small road next to the runway to get my last shots of the day
KC Sim 2 Report post Posted December 22, 2008 Wow!!! Nice shots Cornelis!!! Your shot of the Surinam B743 (my favourite subject at AMS) gave me a big shock until I read your comments. I had thought that its engine no.4 was on fire. It is very nice to see such a lovely diversity in angles, subjects and lighting conditions. The SIA Cargo dawn arrival shots are absolutely beautiful. KC Sim 2 Report post Posted February 1, 2009 During my recent (and very brief) visit to the Netherlands enroute home from Toulouse, I had only two objectives that involve retro liveries - PH-BXA of KLM and PH-MCL of Martinair. Everything else is bonus. Due to the weather and the complexity of the runways, I was either caught with inclement weather or runway switches. And so the only shots of PH-BXA are those taken in less-than-brilliant weather . . . but I was pleased with them nevertheless. Thanks to Pieter for keeping me posted on the movements of PH-BXA. This was taken shortly after I arrived in Amsterdam from Toulouse (flew KLM's Fokker 100 PH-OFI). My friend Mischa rushed me from the terminal all the way to runway 18R (where I had earlier landed and taxied a very very long way to the remote stand) where PH-BXA was landing. Two days later, I was more hopeful as PH-BXA was operating three flights . . . missed the arrival from Rome-Fiumicino in the morning due to runway switch and then this arrival was all I could get. What a smart retro livery . . . I harbour a little hope that KLM will do another retro livery on a long-haul aircraft in a run-up to its 90th Anniversary celebrations in October 2009. Perhaps on a B777-200ER . . . I had all but given up hope on PH-MCL and did not come anywhere close to seeing it due to runway switches at the most unfortunate moments . . . but on the day of my departure, I realised that there is a huge glass window overlooking two taxiways (opposite gate G8 where SIA's B772 was parked). And lo and behold, PH-MCL landed at 1010hrs and taxied right past me. Another subject that taxied right past me at this window was a KLM B744 in KLM Asia livery . . . could not resist a tight shot of it. Yet another subject I could not resist a nose shot was the B747-200 of Northwest Airlines in old colours (the bowling shoe livery) . . . who knows what's the fate of this aircraft and indeed its livery now that Delta is busy applying its corporate identity on the NW fleet. Thanks Pieter for the information. KC Sim
