Norman 1 Report post Posted January 4, 2012 Dear all, I will be in Langkawi for holidays from 06JAN2011 to 09JAN2011 and would like to spend one day - Sunday 08JAN2011 for spotting at Langkawi airport. Appreciate if someone can show me some good spotting locations there. Thanks and best regards. Hi Nguyen... If you check the first page of this topic, Yukihiro has provided some tips on some good locations to spot around LGK.. maybe you need a taller ladder since the airport authority has put up higher fence. Anyway, you don't need the ladder at some of the locations... there are some high grounds where you can position yourself.

Waiping 12 Report post Posted January 4, 2012 Just to share during the 2009 LIMA about 4 of us walked from the terminal (upper most red dot) along the airport perimeter (clockwise) to the 2 left bottom spots.
LD Nguyen 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2012 Would like to know, during this time which runway is likely to be used, 21 or 03 for landing & taking off?
Norman 1 Report post Posted January 4, 2012 Due to high mountains beyond 03, almost all landing will be 03 and takeoff 21 all the time.

LD Nguyen 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2012 Another question: any problem if i use my scanner near the airport?
syafiq aidil law 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2012 I think no problem..but i advise dont use your scanner for too long time to avoid scanned by the airport authorities...
Norman 1 Report post Posted January 6, 2012 Scanner is classified under control item, and you need a license to use it... even though it can't transmit... So I suggest you use it discretely if you still want to... There was a case few years ago near KUL where 2 foreign spotters were caught using the scanners and spent 2 nights in police lock-up.... Kwek 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2012 Question for Norman: Noticed that you marked the Helang Hotel as a spot. Is there an observation or deck in that location? Thanks
Norman 1 Report post Posted January 9, 2012 Question for Norman: Noticed that you marked the Helang Hotel as a spot. Is there an observation or deck in that location? Thanks If I'm not mistaken... you can spot through one of the corridors.... but you need the management permission or become a guest there

Thanks Norman. Just came back from Langkawi yesterday, and spent Monday morning spotting at the location you marked near the fence, opposite to the tower, and nearly 2 hours spotting in the terminal where I had very good photo of small propeller aircrafts taxing. No problem met with scanner. Will post photos later.
