Lock SH 0 Report post Posted March 28, 2013 RMAF & MAS are still coordinating this event. Spoke to one of the guys from MINDEF this afternoon that if everything goes as planned, an A380 + 4 Su30 MKM (may be MiG 29) will do the flypast, most likely during the opening ceremony on 26 Mar, just like the trademark pic 'The Concorde & Red Arrows' ........ I thought it was supposed to be the A380 & Eurofighter Typhoon from Butterworth? I heard it will be Typhoon too... Either way it would be EPIC!! With the Eagle Express 744 static display, Russian Knights and Swifts, Su-30 MKM (with special tail livery).. This is one LIMA that cannot be missed.. Oppsss ....... The event took placed as planned. BRAVO to RMAF fighter jockeys & MAS crew ........ JOB WELL DONE !!!!!

iwan 3 Report post Posted March 30, 2013 @waiping & LaurieB Thanks guys!! @flee Thanks for the advice on the camera and lenses before LIMA. im continuing to grow more and more in love with planes looking at these pictures. ))) Anyway, heres a tribute to the smokey bandits. they were AMAZING, especially loved their 'recovery' after one of the MiGs didnt take off and they had to perform with 4 planes at such short notice this morning. Proud of them really, plus the fact that they sure must have worked so hard to come up with an impressive routine. the crowd and myself grew really fond of the "Smokey Bandits" team. Great idea by them to name themselves that way. Personally makes us feel more 'attached' to them.. :') i sure hope they will be around for the next LIMA or for many-many more years. A dedicated aerobatic team maybe?

iwan 3 Report post Posted March 31, 2013 (edited) guys i just noticed that throughout the performance of our Su-30MKM, the thrust vectoring didnt seem to be operational even at high AoA. Any possible reasons why they opt not to to switch it on? the superhornet pilot taking a smoke? a MiG Edited March 31, 2013 by iwan

Lock SH 0 Report post Posted March 31, 2013 guys i just noticed that throughout the performance of our Su-30MKM, the thrust vectoring didnt seem to be operational even at high AoA. Any possible reasons why they opt not to to switch it on? Unlike J-35 or Harrier during vertical take off and landing that you may see the exhaust nozzles operating prominently, SU-30 exhaust nozzles are operating except that they are operating very subtly, a few degrees movement will not be caught by naked eyes but certainly they are operating all the time throughout the maneuvers performed. I am not an expert here but transition from high speed to slow speed and high AOA maneuver like 'Cobra' or 'Kulbit' (means somersault) definitely needs thrust vectors. That is the reason why a conventional fighter jet without thrust vector will not be able to perform the same maneuver.

I was expecting to catch a pic of it in full thrust vectoring mode, something like this But i guess you're right, the movement mighgt be subtle and after having a closer look, the second picture does appear to have a slightly offset nozzle on the left.
