I tried a dummy booking for the weekend of April, it was around RM 688 return. Contemplating whether or not to try it out even though that's a lot of money to pay for a 1 hour flight, 78J notwithstanding.

To really appreciate the aircraft I think should consider the SIN - BKK sector. Otherwise won't get much out of it.

KUL-SIN-BKK return in Y is MYR 1,424...

The flights seem to be cheaper if you select the A330 flights instead. The previous introductory on the a350s for KUL-SIN-KUL were much cheaper than the 7810s not sure why.

Yes, all the 787 flights carry a premium.

I think it is more a function of the popularity of morning departures to BKK and the SQ118/119 combination. SQ can put old 772s on these flights and still charge high fares due to demand.

KUL-SIN-BKK return in Y is MYR 1,424...

You can get that lower by buying a return and with some days stay in BKK.

A friend did a mock booking SIN - BKK at SGD278. Works out around MYR800+.

Singapore Airlines looking to deploy new Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner on Nagoya, Fukuoka flights

http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/singapore-airlines-looking-to-deploy-new-boeing-787-10-dreamliner-on-nagoya

Looks like a replacement for A330-300 and B777-200ER

Yes, the A330-300 were only a stop gap solution for the B787 delays. So, as more of them arrive, the A330 will be phased out.

So SQ is intending to use the 787-10 on regional routes? Thought the 787-10 can fly further than regional?

SQ 787-10 is only for regional routes. They will be fitted with new regional business class seats, which are different from the ones currently found on A350.

i think it has always been their plan to use the 787-10 for only regional routes, and hence the dense configuration and the narrower regional J seats albeit in a 4-abreast arrangement.

Of course it can - but that doesn't mean it can't be used on regional routes. Its 772s and 333s are capable of a lot more than SIN-KUL/CGK/BKK, but they get the job, and I'm sure the 787-10 will continue that tradition.

Since the departure of the 757s they've never had a real "regional" model in their fleet. Then again, why would they? They have MI for that.

Yes, the 787-10 does have the range - however, it is a tradeoff between range and payload. The further you want it to fly, the less payload you can carry.

When all of the fleet is renewed, SQ will operate only A350s and B787 together with their A380s.

The SIA 787-10 can fly up to 12 hours if need to be but SIA will use these for regional flights. SIA ordered 49 of these B787-10s and should have 6 by year's end. It also have 67 A350s of which 21 have been delivered and flying. The A350ULR will start its delivery hopefully before July. SIA will have the most number of advanced fleet in the next couple of years.

You forgot the 777-9, which will replace the 77Ws.

Yes the 777-9. There is quite a bit of gap between the A350-1000 and the A380-800.

Has SQ ordered the A350-1000 too?

They have ordered 20 B777-9 - they are not replacing their B77Ws one for one as the B777-9 is a larger aircraft. I think some of the existing B77W routes will be operated by the B78X and A359s.

Do note that the A359s will also have two subfleets - 20 regional configured and 7 ULR configured. SQ is now optimising their fleet for the various missions that the aircraft need to perform.

Looking forward to seeing more B78Xs joining their fleet this year!
