TF’s the winner eventually and I wonder if MAB could get themselves in this kind of favourable position when it comes to plane order. Or they simply don’t care since the Rakyat is gonna pay for them. flee 5 Report post Posted July 20, 2018 As expected TF and Air Asia X have ordered 100 of the A330NEO planes. Never thought at all that he will go for Boeing 787s and by now am sure Boeing knows his tactics very wellas just a bargaining chip with AB. https://www.thestar.com.my/business/business-news/2018/07/20/airasia-x-finalises-order-for-new-jets/ Well, it is not only TF who does this - almost every other airline that is negotiating an order will do it. Only thing that TF does is that his order is usually bigger and the publicity it attracts gives the manufacturer some extra marketing plus points. TF knew that this order (66+34) is for Airbus to lose and he will try to get the best deal for the AirAsia X Group as he can - these planes will be the workhorse for them for the next 15 years, at least. So, it is not something you can buy today and forget about it! Somehow, I doubt that the AirAsia X Group will use all 100 of them. Like the Airasia Group, they have a leasing company. I am sure many of these Neo's will be owned by AAX Aviation Capital and leased to other airlines. They have found that the leasing business is quite profitable. However, I am not sure if the market for A330s is as hot and good as that for A320s! The fact that Boeing took the initiative to counter offer them says a lot about how much this order means to them and how unaffordable it is for Airbus to lose it. TF’s the winner eventually and I wonder if MAB could get themselves in this kind of favourable position when it comes to plane order. Or they simply don’t care since the Rakyat is gonna pay for them. Yes, Boeing's game is a little bigger because they are hoping to clear a space in the market for their proposed MoM aircraft. If they can kill off the pesky A330, both the MoM and the B787 will be easier to sell! AirAsia X already operates at the lowest CASK in the world. TF wants to ensure that this continues and it can only be achieved using the lowest cost platforms. From this order, we can deduce that neither B787-10 nor A359 can beat the A339 in terms of CASK. TF has already said that this is perhaps the most thorough and complete evaluation of aircraft before placing the order. They have looked at everything in great detail. Hopefully, the boys have done their sums correctly. Now lets see if the new Airbus AirSpace cabin configurations will be better that the old one!

flee 5 Report post Posted August 9, 2018 Asia LCC widebody fleet: AirAsia X will triple in size in 10 years Asia’s LCC widebody fleet is poised to double in size, at least, over the next decade, driven primarily by expansion at AirAsia X. The AirAsia X Group has committed to acquiring 100 A330-900neos for delivery from 4Q2019 to 2028. AirAsia X already accounts for 34% of the widebody aircraft operated by Asia Pacific LCCs. The 100 aircraft AirAsia X has ordered is a commitment more than three times the size of its current fleet and larger than the current widebody fleet of all Asia Pacific LCCs combined. AirAsia X will continue to dominate this segment as other Asia Pacific widebody LCCs are pursuing relatively modest expansion. Rather than adding new generation widebody aircraft, several of the region’s LCC groups are focusing more on new generation narrowbody aircraft, which offer significantly improved range and density, for their expansion. flee 5 Report post Posted November 27, 2018 AirAsiaX first A330-900Neo expected to arrive next year in 2019 right? Yes, IIRC their last communication on the matter indicated end of 2019. I think that will be the 242t version for their medium haul routes. They may also get the 251t version when it becomes available (Airbus said in 2020) so that they can fly the European routes from KUL.

flee 5 Report post Posted June 17, 2019 AirAsia unveils the future of long-haul air travel at Paris Air Show LE BOURGET, 17 June 2019 - AirAsia, the Asia Pacific launch customer for the Airbus A330neo, today unveiled the first of its new generation long-haul fleet at the Paris International Air Show. The aircraft will be based at Bangkoks Don Mueang International Airport in Thailand, facilitating growth and network expansion plans to key markets such as Australia, Japan and South Korea. The aircraft unveiling was attended by AirAsia X Chairman Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, AirAsia X Group CEO Nadda Buranasiri, AirAsia Deputy Group CEO (Airlines) Bo Lingam, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer Christian Scherer, Rolls-Royce President Civil Aerospace Chris Cholerton and Avolon CEO Domhnal Slattery, alongside invited industry and international media. AirAsia X Group CEO Nadda Buranasiri said, This is a significant milestone for the aviation industry - and importantly, for our guests - which will revolutionise the long-haul, value air travel market. AirAsia is thrilled to lead the way once again, as the first airline in Asia Pacific to operate the technologically advanced, new generation A330neo aircraft. With 66 aircraft on direct order and 2 on lease, the A330neo is the future of our long-haul operations delivering an enhanced guest experience including the latest design features and new modifications to make medium - long haul value air travel more comfortable than ever. Guests will be able to see and feel the difference with more personal space, larger cabin bag storage space, ambient mood lighting throughout, power sockets in every seat and the quietest cabin in its class. Buranasiri added: AirAsia X continues to focus on delivering the best value fares for medium- to long-haul air travel. The arrival of the A330neo increases our ability to bring new destinations into play. Direct flights to Europe and the US are now possible, and we are working on many exciting network and product plans to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by this aircrafts extended range and significant cost efficiencies, which will be announced in due course. Airbus Chief Commercial Officer Christian Scherer said, Operational efficiency, latest product innovations and growth are core to AirAsia and to the A330neo too! As the newest, lowest seat mile cost mid-size widebody, the A330neo will bring a step change in fuel efficiency, and its increased range will open new opportunities for AirAsia X Thailands long-haul network expansion. Rolls-Royce President Civil Aerospace Chris Cholerton said, Today is a special day for the Rolls-Royce team. We are thrilled to see the A330neo unveiled at the Paris Air Show with the AirAsia livery. We are excited to see the aircraft grace the skies in Asia. The Trent 7000 is critical to the delivery of the 14% improvement in fuel burn reduction per seat of the A330neo, compared to its predecessor the Trent 700, which is a key factor in this aircrafts success. The AirAsia A330neo unveiled today will be available for viewing at the Airbus static display from 17-19 June 2019 and will be open to Paris Air Show visitors and media between 9.00am and 10.00am. The aircraft will enter service in Bangkok early next month. jani 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2019 Can't really see the whole seat but I've been on the TK seat, it's not the most fancy nor wide but damn it is long ensuring you are able to have a full stretch to sleep as width isn't as important. In that sense, MH is the worst whereby you barely have any space for your feet under the seat in front.
Chris Tan 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2019 In that sense, MH is the worst whereby you barely have any space for your feet under the seat in front. But the TK seat does not have much storage space within easy reach, neither does it offer any single seats by the window. Want your laptop out during meal service? Good luck with the balancing act. Pick the right seats on MH and you get a nice combination of footwell space, privacy, window views, direct aisle access and storage space. I can think of worse places to be in the sky.
