Airbus A330 Neo - AirAsia X Orders 50 A330-900neo at Farnborough Air Show 2014

Recommended Posts

The initial Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engine has successfully completed tests, he says: “We will install it during the summer and fly at the end of the summer.”

This maiden flight, he says, would likely take place around September rather than August, due to the lengthy summer break in France.

So it would seem the Brits (RR) have now done their bit and gotten the engines ready, the Frogs are now doing share and holding things up cause they have to have their "summer break" - European collaboration at its finest I suppose :D

It appears to look that way on the surface...

However, the RR Trent-TEN (for the B787) was delayed by about a year and the Trent 7000 is the same engine that is modified to fit the A330. RR was originally scheduled to deliver this to Airbus in Q1 2017 but missed the date. Now, the three month delay is further extended into late summer...

In any case, if Airbus is to pull back some of that delay, the testing and certification will have to be pretty intensive - they might even decide to use a customer airframe to test so as to complete the testing programme quickly. But with the wide body orders going so slowly, the delay might be welcome because many customers are planning to delay delivery of their orders...

AirAsia X Eyeing Airbus A330 Lease Market

SYDNEY—AirAsia X is looking to lease more Airbus A330s to support growth before its A330neos begin arriving.
The long-haul LCC currently has no more A330ceos on order, and has a substantial gap before its A330neos are due to be delivered towards the end of 2018. So AAX is considering adding another 4-6 used A330s in 2017–18 through third-party leases, CEO Benyamin Ismail told Aviation Daily on the sidelines of the CAPA Australia Pacific Aviation Summit.
AAX has A350 orders due for delivery around 2020, although the carrier and Airbus have been discussing the possibility of advancing this schedule. Some production slots may be available to allow deliveries in 2019, Ismail said. The A350 will be a better fit for flights to Europe, Ismail said.

Always loved the a330 design but that tiny winglet seems to bother me a bit its like going for the a350 wings but half of it. Guess it'll take some time to adjust hahaha.

The winglet redesign also incorporates a new wing-body fairing, a different wing twist and increased wing span. So, it is just a part of the revised aerodynamics.

This is an interesting article.

He writes on the possibility that Hawaiian Airlines cancels it orders for 6 -800 planes (Hawaiian is reconsidering since they will run the risk as the sole operator) and Air Asia X swaps 66 -900 for the A350.

The order book for the neo dwindles and this will lead to other business issues.

Seekingalpha is not a credible web site. So take its "analysis" with a pinch of salt.

The A330 Neo programme needs to get in the air ASAP so that it can get some technical data in. Otherwise, customers might change their minds and potential new orders will also be in doubt.

Get ready for the brand new A330neo's first flight

Airbus’ latest A330 version prepares for its initial take-off
The new generation of Airbus’ popular A330 jetliner family is ready for its maiden flight this week. The A330neo features extensive technology transfers from the A350XWB, including new engines, wings, and systems as well as the signature Airspace cabin. These new features will provide significantly enhanced operating efficiency for airlines, and best-in-class comfort for passengers as well as impeccable environmental characteristics.
Slated for take-off from Toulouse-Blagnac Airport in southwestern France – home to the A330 final assembly line – the initial aircraft is one of three jetliners earmarked for flight tests and certification of Airbus’ two A330neo variants: the A330-900, and the smaller A330-800.
A330neo attributes: advanced technology, maturity, and commonality
The A330neo integrates many of the technological advances of the A350 XWB while building upon the popularity and maturity of Airbus’ A330 airliner family (the world’s most-flown widebody aircraft series: more than 1,360 jetliners delivered; in-service operational reliability of 99.5 percent).
Key features of A330neo new generation technology include Rolls-Royce’s new Trent 7000 turbofan engines, themselves incorporating technology from the Trent XWB that power the A350 and new high-span wings incorporating optimised aerodynamics with new composite Sharklets. The result is new generation efficiency, with the A330neo offering 25% lower fuel burn than previous generation competitors.
In keeping with the Airbus philosophy of commonality across its product lines, pilots will be able to fly the A330neo, A350 XWB and A330 with one single license. And thanks to the Airspace cabin, passengers too will enjoy a seamless experience across the entire Airbus aircraft family.
Performing this week’s maiden flight will be an A330-900 variant, to be joined by one more A330-900 and one A330-800 version. Altogether, they are to accumulate some 1,400 hours of flight time, validating their handling characteristics, system operations, engine performance, cabin functionality and compatibility on airline-type routes.
The A330-900 is planned to receive type certification and enter service with TAP Portugal as the initial airline operator by mid-2018.
Follow live coverage of the A330neo first flight on Twitter and Facebook on October 19* with the hashtag #A330neoFF, starting at approximately 10 a.m. CET, 8 a.m. GMT
*Weather and other conditions permitting
