flee 5 Report post Posted December 29, 2010 Korean Air A380s to have just 407 seats Korean Air is to configure its Airbus A380 aircraft with just 407 seats, the lowest-density layout for the type of any carrier so far. The airline has disclosed details of its seating arrangement for the twin-deck aircraft, which will include an all-business upper deck. Korean Air says this deck will have 94 lie-flat sleeper seats, with 74in pitch. This will give business passengers a sense of "exclusivity", says passenger business division chief Walter Cho. Travellers on the upper deck will be able to feel "like they're travelling in their own private jet", he adds. On the lower deck there will be 12 first-class and 301 economy-class seats. Korean Air is to put the aircraft into service in May 2011, initially on short-haul routes to Japan and eastern Asia. These initial routes will be followed by longer A380 services to the USA and Europe in August. It has 10 of the type on order, and five will arrive by the end of next year. Cho says the aircraft's layout will have a level of comfort that will "provide us with a competitive edge". Five other carriers operate the A380, with Air France's jets fitted with the highest-density layout of 538 seats.
Mohd Azizul Ramli 2 Report post Posted January 7, 2011 Some news about the Koreans and their A380s again. From Jim Liu's blog: Initial routes, though not detailed on particular flight numbers, as follows: June 2011 Seoul Incheon – Tokyo Narita June – August 2011 Seoul Incheon – Hong Kong, Seoul Incheon – Bangkok 30 A380s are planned to be delivered by Airbus in 2011 calendar year: Air France - 2 China Southern - 3 Emirates - 3 Korean Air - 5 Lufthansa - 4 Qantas - 5 Singapore Airlines - 7 Saudi's Prince Al Walid bin Talal - 1 With so many A380s planned to be delivered this year to SQ, I wonder where are they going to deploy the aircrafts. ICN-SFO, FRA-JFK should be the prime candidates.

You could fly 3 different A380s on 3 different airlines to ICN using that routing!
Mohd Azizul Ramli 2 Report post Posted January 7, 2011 There is a chance actually IF Lufthansa deploys their A380 on FRA-BKK vv, which automatically means that the 4 weekly tag-on BKK-KUL vv (and SGN too on the other 3 days) will get the A380 too. I see this as feasible.

Mohd Azizul Ramli 2 Report post Posted January 7, 2011 Actually EK's First Class on the A380 (with the suite, shower spa and all) between BKK and HKG is only priced MYR 2,733 (THB 26,280.00) all in return. This is very affordable when compared to TG's and CX's Business Class ticket on the same route (MYR 4,000+).

Mohd Azizul Ramli 2 Report post Posted April 6, 2011 Innovation, innovation! We have EK with the famous spa and bar on the A380 and AF with the (sadly) infamous museum. Soon we will have a duty free shop on the A380. KE will be the first airline to introduce a full fledge duty free shop at the rear of the main deck of its A380s. No wonder their number of seats is the least dense amongst all current and future A380 operators. "The shop replaces 13 seats on the aircraft so you're losing a lot of revenue, but the Korean mentality is that they buy all the duty free on every flight," says Whetter. "It was Korean's concept to do it and they approached us". Each of the five display units inside the shop weighs 120-130kg (265-287lb) and 30kg of duty free products can be placed inside each one. Up to 64 individual items can be displayed. In the event of turbulence, each of the bottles on display has a strong magnet on the bottom which can withstand a 2g loading. Cosmetics firm Lancome has bought the first advertising spot inside the shop. It will be open for business for the duration of each flight and staffed by full-time sales assistants. First class passengers will have the opportunity to browse the shop and make purchases before anyone else, followed by business class and then other passengers.
