Trainee Pilot Killed In Light Aircraft Crash

RAWANG, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- An Eagle light aircraft of the Royal Selangor Flying Club crashed near the Beringin Golf Club in Lembah Beringin near here Thursday, killing the trainee pilot who was flying solo from Ipoh to Subang.

The pilot, Mohd Ehsan Sayyid Abu Tahir, 22, was hurled 30 metres away from the aircraft on impact and suffered injuries to the head and left leg, said Hulu Selangor police chief Supt Norel Azmi Affandi Yahya.

His body was found at 8.20pm by the police air unit which located the crashed aircraft after radar failed to detect it at about 4pm, he told reporters at the scene tonight.

Norel Azmi said the windscreen of the aircraft had shattered but there was no other serious damage to the plane.

He said Mohd Ehsan, who was clad in a T-shirt and a pair of jeans, had apparently circled the area to find a place to land. His body was sent to the Kuala Kubu Baharu Hospital.

Norel Azmi said the Department of Civil Aviation would investigate the cause of the accident.

Mohd Ehsan, who was from Taman Nirwana Ampang, was on his final solo training flight before he was to sit for an examination to get his pilot's licence, he said.

A mechanic at the Beringin Golf Club, Suhaimi Abdul Aziz, 29, said he spotted the aircraft circling the area for 50 minutes before it crashed.-- BERNAMA

Trainee pilot due for flying test killed in crash

rawang: A Royal Selangor Flying Club trainee died on his last solo flight before he was due for his pilot’s licence test when his aircraft crashed into jungle in Lembah Beringin near here.

Mohd Ishan Sayyid Abu Tahir, 22, from Taman Melawar, Ampang, reported to the Subang airport control tower at about 4.20pm yesterday that his Eagle twin-seater light plane was experiencing problems during the flight from Ipoh.

Police received a call from the Department of Civil Aviation at 6.20pm alerting them of an aircraft that disappeared from the radar screen of the control centre.

Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt Norel Azmi Affandi Yahya said a search was conducted by about 100 police, Fire and Rescue Services Department personnel with the help from the police’s 4x4 team from Bukit Sentosa and a police helicopter.

Mohd Ishan’s body was found at 8.35pm about 30m from the wreckage and his right leg was missing.

His body has been sent to the Kuala Kubu Baru Hospital.

According to Norel, the crash site was located 3km from the Beringin Golf Course, which also owns the land where the plane crashed.

Norel said it was believed that Mohd Ishan had attempted to make an emergency landing but crashed instead.

The trainee pilot was believed to have died on the spot.

If this piece of information is true, it sure will be a mitigating factor in the investigation.

Condolences to the family and may Mohd Ishan Sayyid Abu Tahir rest in peace.

Was at the crash site this morning together with the police forensic team and DCA personnel. High time the GA community look seriously at inculcating a Safety Culture among its players. The kind of weather over that area yesterday was not for a 22 year old with less than 60 hours flying a less than 650 kg AUW light aircraft. Personally I am both sad and angry.
