  1. MH will only benfits if BA form a new partnership with them for the kanggaroo routes... Im not sure what is good for MH left in joining Onewold if rumors confirm BA partnership with QR. A wise decision a year a go might looks obselete these days. If im not mistaken MH will announce their final date in joining Oneworld by end of this month. If there are something concret betwen MH and BA they definately will announce it by then.. will be interesting to see where MH go from there cheers!

  6. During the short sponsorship period with QPR i believe you can see MH ads promo their A380 to London... quite a lots actually. Especially towards the end of the league IMO, they shld continue with a sponsorship with a football club in BPL since the coverage is worldwide. Well maybe not to sponsor QPR again but how about clubs like Tottenham/Everton/Newcastle that will be good marketing and wider brand awareness for MH. Just look at Emirates, they did sponsor football team in the UK, Spain, German, Italy and even Greece!
  7. Middle East carriers consolidate their grip over Southeast Asia Middle-East airlines growth into Southeast Asia goes unabated with more capacities being added into the market. With the opening of secondary routes, they increasingly threaten hub operations of established carriers such as Singapore Airlines, Malaysia Airlines and Thai Airways International. BANGKOK- Etihad Airways’ arrival in Vietnam and Qatar Airways’ return to Yangon confirm the irresistible growth of Gulf carriers into one of the most dynamic part of the world, Southeast Asia. Most of these carriers started flying into Southeast Asia in the mid-nineties, Bangkok being the first destination served in the region, generally followed by Singapore –due to its financial hub status- and Manila due mostly to large groups of Filipino workers employed in the Middle-East. Gulf carriers already forced local airlines such as Philippine Airlines, Malaysia Airlines and Thai Airways International to reduce their presence in the Gulf –even to close down their operations such as Malaysia Airlines in Dubai. But the latest round of expansion is now submerging secondary destinations with governments in Southeast Asia unlikely to resist for too long due to the economic pressure that some States such as Qatar or the UAE will put on their Asian counterparts to secure traffic rights for their airlines. A dozen of airlines –if including both Egypt Air and Turkish Airlines which compete on the same segment- serve today nine destinations in Southeast Asia – ten from October with Qatar Airways landing again in Yangon. What will be the future in the region? As large hubs are already well covered by Middle-East carriers, secondary destinations are the key to the future. Three years ago, Qatar Airways already indicated to pay a close look to Surabaya in Indonesia, a city of over three million inhabitants and a major economic centre; increasing number of tourists going to Phuket and Bali as well as a growing community of expatriates in both resort Islands- are likely to push more airlines asking for traffic rights. Phuket and Bali are for now only served by Qatar Airways, the first one via Kuala Lumpur, the second via Singapore. Qatar Airways has been so far the most aggressive in the region in terms of destinations. It was the first airline to serve in the early 2000s Yangon as well as Cebu. While Yangon is back on Qatar Airways’ map, Cebu is also likely to be back within the next five years. And this is only a question of time before Emirates or Etihad set their eyes on Yangon as well. Other cities in Southeast Asia with a potential for a direct link to the Gulf are Penang in Malaysia, Medan and Yogyakarta in Indonesia and in a more distant future, Southern Thailand’s province of Krabi due to increasing congestion of Phuket International Airport. Next October, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport will still offer the biggest capacity to the Middle-East with 181,567 seats per month followed by Kuala Lumpur with 121,177 and Jakarta with a total of 82,238 seats per month. Emirates Airlines meanwhile remains the largest carrier to the region in seat capacities. The carrier offers up to four daily flights to some capitals in the region, being the first to put into service the Airbus A380. It is followed by Qatar Airways with the largest portfolio of destinations.   11. Even IOCs/NOCs company find it difficult to manage a refinery these days because of lower margin and due to volatility of oil prices, and all of sudden Delta plan to acquire an oil refinery.... Well, good luck to them
  12. If that's their so called offering for premium economy seats all i can say is thank god they scrapped it out. Just by having few more inches in pitch and asking for like 40%-80% more in price will be hard for them to sell it. IMO, if they really want to have a premium economy maybe they can use the the same seat like in their J seat for 738. That will be a winner for them and can have a good respond from their target market.

  14. LAX with only 4x weekly and the only service to US put MH in a difficult position. Thy should fly there daily and include more routes like JFK/SFO and etc (not to forget the right tag on destination as well) to make sure their present is felt in the US. Funny thing is, read lots of good reviews from the american saying how good MH services and etc... too bad MH cannot leverage on that as their main selling point. Well, i guess its abit too late for MH now..
  15. With the reduce no. from 17 to 15 is there a possibility of routes cut? Btw, read somewhere earlier AJ saying that they still nego with the gov to cut some more unprofitable routes. If that correct my guess would be LAX and CDG..
  16. i think you can avoid the middle seat during the online check -in or pay small fees during your booking... i have no probs with B777 as i prefer the 2 seats option.

Not sure its a good move for MH to have double daily A380 for LHR..., can they fill up both A380? and later BA will find it not attractive for them as well to serve KUL (in future ) due to overcapacity. What they shld do imo, is refurbish their B772 to include F class and serve it on LHR/SYD and maybe MEL as well if they plan to send A380 there.

  19. BANGKOK- The recession in Europe is biting into the evolution of air transport capacity this winter season. From eight airports in Southeast Asia connected to Europe, five of them will experience a decrease in seat capacities this winter compared to IATA previous winter season 2011/12. Looking at data from IATA SRS Analyser for November 2012 – when winter schedule are fully implemented- the largest decrease will affect Jakarta with seats’ capacity down by 16.4% as Garuda reduced sharply its services to Amsterdam. Bangkok experiences the second largest decrease on a year-to-year basis with seats capacity down by 8.1 %. The Thai capital lost in one year two airlines (Qantas and Air Berlin) while Athens, Berlin and Düsseldorf services were terminated. Phnom Penh is also affected by Air France’s reduced activity in the region. A smaller aircraft is put into service via Saigon, translating into a decline of 7.9% in seats. Following AirAsia X decision to terminate in April its two services to London Gatwick and Paris Orly while Malaysia Airlines stopped its route to Rome, capacities out of Malaysia to Europe is down by 6%. Ho Chi Minh City will experience a slight reduction of 1.9% in seats capacity this coming winter. Singapore Changi International however continues to offer more seats although they will be less destinations directly connected to the City State (14 destinations versus 16 in November 2011). Singapore total seats capacity to Europe is up by 3.8%. Surprisingly, the biggest increase in total seats will be at Manila airport. KLM enjoys a full monopoly to Europe as Philippine Airlines withdraw from this market a decade ago. This winter KLM will offer 9,810 seats per month between Amsterdam and Manila, up by 20%. Compared to winter 2011, Athens, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Manchester and Warsaw are not anymore connected to Southeast Asia while London Gatwick, Paris Orly and Rome are not connected anymore to Kuala Lumpur.   22. Read earlier comments on MH failed to fill up their plane to FRA. Apparently thats not the case on my recent flight KUL-FRA-KUL. I can say that the Y was 90% while J 70-80% full. While on the return leg 100% for Y as for J didnt take a peek but i did noticed that there are only 2seats empty on the last row for J. Thats must be a good sign. Not sure whether its because for the summer/holiday season or not. For short term plan I think they shld refurbish half(the younger ones) of their B777 to include F and as a complement for their A380 route which have 2x daily like LHR and SYD and even PVG to make sure product consistency on that routes. Even AJ admitted that they lack of F seats. If im not mistaken they still have another 10 option on A330 so maybe they can use that option to have the A33E. While on the long run order some of the 787/777X(if materialize) or even A350 since delivery date will be 2017 and above (i think)
  23. i think u got me wrong overthere..., what i meant was the idea of turning BKI as a secondary hub and using the new B738s to serve the route from there. I am not saying that MH shld fly their oldies to Sabah/Sarawak Being the main hub dont you think that MH should focus on KLIA first before proceed to other states? Having a secondary hub when your living in a multiple life-support is not a good thing. I would rather have a quality than quantity. Besides, its a good thing that some airports on the eastern side manage to attract foreign carrier to serve it, it proved that they are demand for it and you guys still have a choice. I am not a politician, hence i believe that MH must be run as a business entity first rather than making empty promises of the moon and the sun... and in the end serve rubbish to the paying customers. Once all the new plane have coming in only then MH can rejuv back the ideas of BKI/KCH as their second hub. Btw, living on the east coast side of peninsular i know how the feel as a second class citizen, with all the multiple new highways/better rail services on the west coast side we on the the other side of peninsular still have to rely on rubbish infrastructure. Even though it is just couple of hours ride, you can see a stark different between the two sides. cheers!
  24. Is the HND slot really lucrative with high demand? If it really a high yield dont you guys think that JAL will be the one to start fly from there? Btw, how is D7 performance on that route? I think MH will still maintain their NRT base especially after the recent announcement codeshare with JAL and coming soon with AA which is also base in NRT(correct me if im wrong) I think MH should concentrate on the KLIA and make a good use the new B738s on the ASEAN routes first before even thinking about BKI as a secondary hub. Currently u will feel cheated for flying with the old 737-4 to BKK/SGN/CGK with a FSC fare. Sometimes flying with AK much more worth it as u have less expectation and way cheaper!
