  1. Please read the rest of the thread - you'll find evidence to the contrary ! Levent, We found F&B at Suvarnabhumi to be very, very reasonably priced when we were there in Dec. Much more so when compared to KUL in fact.
  2. Thank goodness not a single soul was lost in either the Biman nor ANA incidents - refreshing change ! On another note, those of us who are into models will probably be struck by the similar 'stance' of the 1:1 ANA bird compared to the 1:400 offering from Gemini Jets !
  3. Wasn't there something circulated about some nudist airline somewhere ? No need to wait !! My concern would be for you pilots, where will you hang/paste/pin your stripes ?!
  4. Me thinks someone has definately let the cat out of the bag already !!
  5. Somehow I don't see this happening anytime soon, not with the category of pax one mostly sees coming off the flights. My guess is the yields wouldn't interest CX one bit, probably reason why they were so ready to pass up the route to KA years ago (that was before they owned KA mind you) Probably same reason why SQ never reinstated SIN-BKI (and SIN-KCH) but got MI to do the job instead. Good news for all the seafood restaurants in KK !!
  6. Pieter, Just looked up schedule on KA's site (MH's online timetable next to useless unfortunately !) Appears MH will be retaining daily flights too, so BKI-HKG vv will go double daily Good to see there will be the option of an afternoon KA flight ex-HKG to BKI soon. Always a tough choice having to decide whether to wake up at some unworldly hour for the 8am KA flights or take the afternoon MH flight (to sample the difference mah !) Hey SV, KA's site still list MH382 and 384 as code shares. One of them continue on to KCH, albeit by MH alone. The new extra 3x weeklies by KA look like KA own flights though, don't show up on MH's timetable at all.
  7. DE here reported the route will be serviced by 'widebodies' - are we to expect KA's A333's here on daily basis then ?! If so,
  8. Rather convenient for KWSP to be available to make the purchase - the infrastructure presumably have been purpose built. What would KWSP be left with if after five, or even ten years later, MH opts for the "office consolidation" option ?! Bear in mind the RM145m is part of yours and my retirement fund !! Incidentally, bought 18 years ago for RM133.1m, sold now for RM145m. Return on investment (exclusive other costs) is 9% or roughly 0.5% per annum. Bank F/D rates nowadays is about 3+% pa If this investment is an example, no wonder Mr Jala is so keen to divest all non-core activities !!
  9. Strange, always thought the B722 has better range than the A333. Could be they're comparing with max payloads, or comparing with the original B777-200A (as opposed to B777-200ER)
  10. If from BKI, then it will be a re-launch of sorts. They did do BKI-TPE and BKI-KHH when still in the blue/green colours
  11. Must say it would not surprise me totally if it turns out that way. I do not recall any civil project having a cargo version included from the beginning. So far, cargo birds have evolved more as an after thought ! Having said that, the 747 project did start life as a cargo design (albeit, a design that lost the USAF competition) So,
  12. Just googled GFH Why more or less redo an obscure airport to cater for A310's when the organisation is going for B742's, and C130's for support ? And why base at Taiping when maintenance will be at Singapore ? Looks like they (the 'private sector') will have to relook at plans for Taiping if they are to pour in RM3b. To put things in perspective, BKI redevelopment is just over RM1b. All this after the the "now on, now off" expansion of IPH (seriously under utilised I believe) The story so far doesn't gel very well, if at all !
  13. For some people, having a Ferrari in front of their house is money wisely spent !! It's just that you and I apparently do not subscribe to that belief (yet ?!)
  14. If this Ab Malek Ariff chap really believes in his own statement, his idiology may well be in sync with the hermit kingdoms of past (ancient China) and present (North Korea) !!
  15. Thanks Gavin, the mouthful reduced by 33% I guess !
  16. I'm assuming now there must be some simplified callsign for Kota Kinabalu, a mouthful indeed you must admit. Would be cool if they utilize the universal "Kay-Kay" us commoners are familiar with !
  17. I suppose it depends on how deep you wish to analyze the issue. Per se, KCH-SIN (or BKI-SIN, PEN-SIN even) could well be lucrative for MH cause they have a triopoly (is there such a thing ?!) with SQ and MI and can jack up the charges. However, I do understand that a fair portion of those travelling to SIN are actually transitting to say US, Europe and other parts of the world, mostly on SQ but perhaps on other foreign airlines serving SIN too. In such cases, it would be 'business lost' to MH, because those pax would otherwise have flown to their final intended destinations via KUL and on MH. That would be my simplistic way of looking at things, I'm sure someone else will furnish theirs in due course !
  18. Yes and no I guess - we were parked at a remote stand when we arrived but departed via an aerobridge However, here in BKI we're more certain as to our expectations - try find an aerobridge at T2 !!
  19. Search further down the topics list and you'll find this !
  20. Well thought out reasoning Keno ! I guess realities of the airline industry eventually dictate what sort of carrier flies where to, international politics allowing. I'm sure many of us here in the 'secondary' cities would like to see many more foreign carriers at our local airports, but what for when traffic / yields are unlikely to sustain the services ? For eg, though I was ecstatic when AO started SYD-BKI-SIN vv, it felt more dissapointing when they stopped flying here instead. Having said that, there must be those in the industry who take the "never try, never know" approach too !
  21. What the heck - S$1 for a six pack Tiger, time to pay SIN a visit again I say !!
  22. Is this the Ruskie bird that brought in replacement engine for the stranded MH A333 at BKI ?
  23. If it's Sabah Air doing the route, then probably won't be the Nomad flying. I thought the bird is in Layang Layang Aerospace colours nowadays ?
