  1. Face it guys.. For long term sustainability, MAB don't need more WB now. If they had them, sure, they could have made some minimal profits given the low oil prices.. But even then, the overall operation is still so messy and inflated.. Right now, it makes sense to get Long range NB aircraft - it permits route expansion/optimisation in the primary market for the airline which is the Asia-Pacific.. DEL/BOM/PVG/PER/BNE/ADL/TPE/HKG and a multitude of secondary cities in both China and India will let MABS have not merely optimised access, but the chance to increase frequency without killing yield to existing WB markets and/or re-deploy limited WB fleets to higher yielding markets. In time, with a stable regional platform, expansion to the EU and African growth markets can take place.. But this is years off, and we'll just have to curb our excitement of any WB orders to other local airlines such as AirAsia Group or Malindo.
  2. Yup.. Very silly design.. Some A350 flights are not able to accommodate all pax hand carry...
  3. 777 killer?? Yeah... Probably the 777-200ER 😁
  4. Had chicken rice at that hotel one evening before departing back to Perth on QF via SIN.. Despite the old look, it was nice inside from what I remember. If I remember correctly, they extended the window out to the railing? The KFC Used to have the "best views" of the apron and touchdown zone for RW33. There was one balcony where you could still go out into and that was at the southern end of the terminal.. Not much of a view except the fuel base and adjoining railway line. You could see the aircraft on finals for RW33. Inside, you had to be at a gate for a decent view. Gates 14A and 14B (IIRC) for the buses to the Cargo ramp, very common from 1995 onwards, especially with the expanded MAS fleet including A330s. Many hours spent whiling away at the MAS airside office, where UMs would sit and wait for their escorts to the flight.... Similar room in Changi. There was no ban on smoking back then, either. For arrivals, after the curvy-beige plastic moulded immigration counters, with the black rubberised trimming, you make your way to all of three or four conveyor belts, and finally those stainless steel trapezoid customs inspections before entering the "basement" meeting point. If you were waiting for someone, you could stand on the metal railing, which had a pattern similar to the MAS Wau bulan, albeit in straight aluminium tubing, and peer inside waving at your family/friends. I remember my dad would see us, wave for our attention, before he ran to the carpark to get the car and brought it around to the arrivals driveway, usually perfectly timed for when we came out of the arrivals hall. Then it was off to Jalan Gasing Restoran Satellite for the immediate chicken rice fix!! 😝 Although the history was destroyed, the memories never can be! On aerobridges, gate 1 had the honour of being installed with the all-glass bridges ahead of KLIA.
  5. No it doesn't... That mall is separate from The check-in area
  6. Leisure routes are generally O&D traffic negating the need for "airside" transfers. Could be a new business entirely operating with excess MH metal on a wet-lease basis.
  7. It seems a bit audacious given the economies of scale and competitiveness with the 787... Really believe the focus should be on reworking the 737 completely, to offer an operational alternative to airlines that are not Southwest.. This would see better fleet integration with existing and planned types such as the 787 and 777X project.
  8. The convention centre should have been a gutted and re-configuration of the old Terminal 1 building... Pulling it down was and is still today a travesty for historical preservation. Would love for someone to dig up the old plans and reconstruct the original terminal building as it was at its inaugural sans windows and with the spiral staircase and majestic ramp onto the apron...
  9. Afraid this is why new-startups chasing the charter market have to be extremely careful... Contracts come and go.. Concentration on one market (hajj/umrah) is another limitation... Package tour deals also becoming less prevalent given the many cheaper DIY Internet solutions available..
  10. Bratislava eh? They must be doing for free! The ferry costs would be ridiculous alone
  11. B739. Hands down. Fuel. Payload-to-match-sector demands, especially considering it's very much O&D traffic. Crew training. Lower Airport landing and apron fees. Quicker turnaround times. With a 737 they can very quickly boost route frequency if market forces are present - which is what the travelling comfort are shifting toward as preference. A343 is sorry to say, a has-been. Further reiterated by the fact there is not even a cargo conversion option for the frame (given other more valuable choices, including the MD-11)
  12. A343s are bad. Period. No matter how long or short. The maintenace and four engines combined with slow cruising speed are no match to the A330 economics.
  13. BNE via PER would make no sense in terms of aircraft rotation. Expect BNE non-stop. The -900ER would have better paylod numbers, but the -800 could make it to. Currently SilkAir does operate CNS-SIN and SIN-CNS using 737-800s. But not everyday flight - the flight is occasionally SIN-DRW-CNS or CNS-DRW-SIN
  14. The separation of ground services from the main carrier was long overdue. Using Ssmall pool of seasoned and retired cabin crew as airline representatives and customer relations officers on the ground would serve to have a better grip and feedback on the standards of contractual services rendered by the new "AeroDarat".. Ground services in KL especially have for many moons not met the expected standard of MABs so-called five star rating. Additionally, cost control is then better managed, as the ground services company works with what they earn and are not subsidiSed (in theory) by the parent airline. Same goes for all the other business units. The mistake SIA made in 2009 was divesting from SATS.. The reason given was that SATS had emerged on its own to have businesses that were not core to aviation operations - because they cleverly increased their revenue stream to fund local and global expansion. In fact, had the company structure been better managed, SATS airport handling services unit could still be majority share owned by SIA, with so called non-core businesses under the new SATS umbrella. Speaking of which, does anyone know if SATS were successful in the takeover bid of Brahims Catering in Malaysia?? Perhaps a new co named MySATS😁
  15. Axman, not broken down la... Closed whilst construction of the Jewel takes place. No T2/T3 Airside/landslide connection between E-Gates and B-Gates.. But the airside only T2-F/T3-A link still up and running. The last time there was major disruption in KLIA was when they had closed pet of the line to construct the new Aerotrain maintenance complex... Which actually looks seldom used anyway... Do they only have the two three-carriage units? Why no spare? Perhaps some money to be made in an upgrade project - the new bombardier trains at DXB a Concourse D are quite impressive.
  16. These deliveries to Perth bound to start slowing... And might see the reverse flow out of Perth with Capacity cuts on regional and intrastate routes, given the mining slowdown...
  17. Nice catch of the new livery MALINDO. Believe the Malindo titles shall remain, as rebranding into batik would have meant that the titles from the previous PK- registration would remain, and the flag and rego change only
  18. Kar Yong, whilst the sector lengths are comparable, the flight planning requirements are somewhat different owing to the limited number of viable alternates available in New Zealand.. Essentially for AKL, the primary alternate is CHC... And given the weather patterns that can sometimes cover the whole country, airlines may have to nominate SYD, MEL or BNE as alternates - which means they must carry the mandatory fuel in case of a diversion from AKL back across the Tasman sea.. This thereby limits potential payload and ultimately affects route profitability.. IST-KUL/SIN no such problem.. You have PEN, JHB, BTM, SZB, HKT, etc as viable enroute and destination alternates. Plus the airports have multiple runways unlike NZ where both CHC and AKL have single runways - an aircraft disabled puts a lot of pressure on the system..
  19. Didn't take them "long enough" there were ownership issues that previously hampered a merger or single-entity management structure.
  20. Jani, sensitivities are only so If we are sensitive about them. Politically, there is indeed a lot of sensitive history between Malaysia and Singapore.. But now let's look at other factors like organisational makeup - you know how many Malaysians are in the SIA group from every level?? Would this not benefit them also, especially with potentially more connectivity to home. Plus this is a renewable deal - not a life term.. I'm a Malaysian in SIA, and I am proud to be able to be a part of an organisation that brings in tourists. On Singapore giving Malaysia contracts - a few years ago, did you know MAS won the Singapore MinDef contract to transport all NSmen and women to Queensland for defence exercise at Rockhampton? 2-3 MK* A330's were roped in for the job and plied between SIN and QLD for a month in aggregate total. How? There was some arrogant responses on this side of the fence - macam, why not SIA??!! Business is business, politics is politics. On the gateway to Malaysia.. Bring some positive changes into MAHB and KLIA... I know you keep saying there are plans etc but none of it is ever very impressing.. The airport facilities (pax) is poorly maintained, a lot of tiada-Apa attitude and too much cin-Cai decoration that clutters... A small but huge difference is adding more permanent greenery inside the terminal.. Take use of the natural light and open spaces... Kill some of the billboards.. My two cents.
  21. KK Lee - such is revenue for the organisation and a diversification of its business portfolio.. Having a land bank that is large enough for an airport and commercial / recreational property is wise.. Do look at airports like MEL/PER/ADL/PVG/SIN where local and international industry make use of proximate land to airports ..
  22. If the original rumours were true about CMs appointment, then there should considerable influence again on the next appointee.. Take it for what it is, people. The man is resigning for "personal" reasons. Be that health, or the inability to work with local stakeholders - time will tell. As for irresponsible comments about shutting the airline down tomorrow and not caring for the employees livelihoods - kudos to you for being dickheads! Your EPF would be consumed in payouts to these affected individuals and you won't see again whatever has already been invested.
  23. Guess those 777s are earmarked for lease or sale to a new AOC holder in Malaysia.
