  1. There are "bus terminals" at the basement of the MTB beneath the Aerotrain terminal as well as at the Satellite terminal in the C11-C17 Wings. They are equipped with escalators and lifts. I would imagine that there are new trains as I recall a few months back Bombardier winning an order for an upgrade - could also have to do with the construction of a maintenance depot for the aerotrains between Satellite A and Satellite B reserve... it was always puzzling why MAHB relied on the two existing trains with no spare available in case of breakdown. On the other hand, the suggestion that one aerotrain remains operable while the other line is upgraded makes perfect logical sense, however, I'm sure the engineers/contractors/KLIA management have evaluated this as an unuseable alternative given the nature of works that they need to carry out. Here's hoping for new, more cooler looking trains anyway
  2. I hope these guys work out... a diversification of operations may be ideal for an IPOH based carrier. e.g. Passenger network; night mailruns; bank runs; Medivac; Charter; Small-time freight etc etc. Fleet becomes very important - and although they have dreams of having corporate jets, and A320s.. perhaps they should keep it real and purchase multi-role aircraft like: 1. Beechcraft SuperKing Air 2. Pilatus PC12 3. Cessna Citation - Mustang (VLJ) These aircraft can be quickly modified for the many roles I have mentioned above.. Interestingly, a business model is evolving in Australia that is utilising the extensive GA network in the country to improve cost efficiencies and returns to operators.. have a look: www.emptyjet.com.au AirAsia succeeded because they ventured into new territory. They were ground-breakers. If Silverfly want's to be anything, don't imitate - create a market niche!! Ipoh is perfectly placed to be competitive in the GA arena.
  3. Perak is so rich with culture and history and all they could come up with was "Silerfly"????? I used to have a hypothetical airline on Airline Mogul called "KintaValleyXpress" or "KVX" based in Ipoh made me quite a bit of hypothetical dough before I lost interest and focused on my flight training Does anyone recall if the Berjaya order was for 10 ATR72s?? or just 2? I always anticipated that Berjaya would eventually make the foray into the SZB-SIN services, perhaps even via XSP
  4. Maybe it wasn't professional, but at the end of the day.. a bit of humility should be added with whatever judgement the FAA makes. The kid did do a great job!
  5. At first I thought it was the visual illusion of the prop missing - but on closer inspection of the prop hub, you can actually see that at the instant of your shot, the prop blade is lined up with your camera angle!! Now from this, the interesting question would be: which way is the blade that you can see travelling?? up or down??!
  6. Yet another flip-flop decision by the gahmen.... these fellas all wearing the blue bata or famous tat-sing brand???!! idiots.....
  7. SIAEC ASU (Apron Services Unit) is also located in T1 beneath the Delta Pier. So parking some of the SIA aircraft that are on longer layovers also permits easier access to the SIAEC guys and gals when T1 is having it's lull period during the late night/early morning or during midday.
  8. I'd like to see the inside of -XXE.. isn't it the bird with the new/updated interior offerings? Shame about the security... anyone got any friends at MAS AE? The rooftops of the Hangar would be somewhat sweet for photos!
  9. You're always right in hindsight. This is not the last order EVER to be placed by MAS. Who made the decision? obviously not you.
  10. The 772's perhaps (as it too was designed with the intention of such on-board infrastructure - but the present A330 fleet - I think not when it comes to cabin refurbishment... the aircraft are fairly worn out. The infrastructure of the aircraft to include passenger entertainment systems is diminished - so if they were to add one, it would be inferior to competitors and non cost-worthy. The original A330 platform, which MH presently operates was designed in the mid-80's and delivered in 1994 to MAS - 15 years of loyal service. Back then, passenger cabins were merely seats with giant screens in front of each cabin zone. How many original A330's in the world TODAY have an IFE suite? IIRC, Thai & Cathay were also recepients of the aircraft but did NOT have Personal IFE fitted... THESE airlines subsequently DID order the A330E. In fact, the top selling A333 is the ENHANCED version - it's what QANTAS, Northwest, KLM all operate. Great aircraft such as the 737, 747, 727, A300, A320 have stood the test of time for (in some cases) MORE than 30 years. They have had enhancements to avionics, engines, structural aerodynamics etc etc but the core shell remained basically the same. How can you condemn the A333 to coming to the "end" of its "product life cycle". The aircraft that MAS has just ordered is the A330E. An enhanced version with improved avionic suites, engines and some structural modifications. It may not be 'plastic fantastic' - but it's PROVEN and TESTED. I think it was a good decision. The MD-11, albeit a failure, was REVOLUTIONARY in many other regards - and the Boeing 777 took many a leaf from the design of the MD-11. Unfortunately, the 777 trumped. BUT that being said, still lots of MD-11F's in the world.
  11. It would be very suprising if SQ left KUL.. It's the primary alternate for WSSS It's a favourite training sector for the 777 and A330 fleets. SQ carries many passengers from KL via SIN on to the world.. It's presence is both historical and political.
  12. Ryan, If you are going to critique, perhaps you should do away with the constant tones of sarcasm and occasional arrogance and be a little more constructive. All the above examples you have given have good reason to be "international". I can only guess you are taking stab at the politicians comments of making such airports "regional hubs" and so on and so forth. Yes, this may be silly, but in terms of having some regional/domestic connectivity (as oppose to hubs), why the heck not? I don't see firefly complaining about it's service to Ipoh from Singapore.. do you? Melaka has a flight by Riau - so it needs to be international, does it not? Subang is striving to be an international maintenance centre and business aviation centre - international would be good! Lastly - Seletar, Paya Lebar (albeit Military) and Changi are within a stones throw (sorry, for obvious reasons I couldn't use "spitting distance") and are ALL international airports, albeit with different and perhaps more realistic ambitions than some of the politicians in Malaysia. So what say you now?
  13. Anyone catch the Alitalia 777 parked on the far north end of the SATS cargo apron on Wednesday? Any idea to the reason for its visit also?
  14. Why should the US sell hardware to the RMAF/ATM when they are selling bucket loads to Singapore? Has anyone thought that perhaps the picture painted to the politicians is that it is 'more likely' for a conflict between Malaysia and Singapore?
  15. If this piece of information is true, it sure will be a mitigating factor in the investigation. Condolences to the family and may Mohd Ishan Sayyid Abu Tahir rest in peace.
  16. Perhaps a more abstract interpretation of "more reasons to fly with SQ" is permitting the use of LCC's to SIN from these new points in Malaysia to SIN to travel beyond aboard the SQ network? Therefore bypassing the need to travel to KL.
  17. Quotations are from: http://airasiaannus.blogspot.com/2008/09/air-asia-convice-us-theyre-unsafe.html Okay, given you added "many other streams" which I presume includes engineering (aerospace/structural), I observe that your opinion is simply a laymans opinion with no REAL evidence, so I do ask that our fellow MalaysianWingers not to attack your opinion, but perhaps explain to you that essentially, 'there are two sides to a coin". Secondly... Let's not get political. If you're not happy with AirAsia or any of its subsidiary airlines - then don't fly. If you want to cross-promote Jetstar Asia and Tiger Airways through some sort of unsubstantiated 5-star rating of on-time performance against AirAsia - knock yourself out. I assume you ("Ailerwrong") are involved with this "Fly Air Asia? Not Me" blog, but if you really wanted to boycott Malaysia as you so proudly announce in your blog, you wouldn't post on our MalaysianWings site - a site that is predominately Malaysian - unless ofcourse you had ill-intentions. Boohoo to you. Go and grab a tissue for your issue - i'm all out.
  18. Don't be suprised to see the B738's heading as far away as Perth, Taipei, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore etc etc This aircraft will have a good capacity for boosting frequency to such places in tandem with existing widebody fleet ops. E.g. MH124/125 - KUL-PER vv Ops B772/A333 whilst MH126/127 - KUL-PER Ops B738 (and increase the latter to a daily flight) Not to mention the chance of MAS utilising B738's out of CGK to destinations such as PER or ADL (although ADL might be stretching it).
  19. I think it was wxr related.. vis at change An SQ 77W (9V-SWS) operating as SQ322 LHR-SIN diverted to KUL as well, as there were about 10 aircraft holding at NYLON. This was a few days ago. It landed in KL about 1500hrs local. FYI also, as of 14Sep09, SQ118/119 is ops by A330-300.
  20. hey hey, Capt. Ockendens beauty! when's your base check mate? or cleared already?
  21. I think they could better utilise that space in the centre of the main apron (if that's what you'd call it) Perhaps an additional finger extending out from the centre of the main building to reach those remote stands in the centre... either underground or overground?? And better yet.. install some aerobridges at least for the widebodies lah......
  22. The 5 AK vs 1 MH shot is classic and synonymous with the times in Malaysian Civil Aviation!! FYI, 9M-AFA should have been an arrival from BKK - Was in BKK this morning and upon arriving we had to wait for the formula 1 drivers who were taxying this aircraft to vacate the main apron at VTBS before we could dock Not a bad livery!
  23. Contrary to popular belief, the A320 and B737NG IS able to operate on a runway of length 1,800m and width of 30m. I've seen it. Maroochydore Airport on the Sunshine Coast in QLD receives countless A320 and B737NG flights from around Australia - as far as Adelaide - EVERYDAY!!! YBMC is semi tropical with a fair amount of wet weather, has VOR & NDB approaches for both ends of the main runway 18/36, NO ILS, and is situated along the coast line with regular crosswinds of 15-20 knots. Did i mention the runway width is only 30m! Furthermore, there is high terrain to the north-west and inland to the west. No parrallel taxiway - turning nodes at both thresholds and a very very very congested ramp at times!!! The airport has no radar - it depends on Visual sightings with aircraft from the Tower, although they have a RADAR feed from Brisbane that gives a leg-up on situational awareness - and it becomes an unmanned aerodrome by night - with some RPT services continuing to operate. A tonne of GA traffic is thrown in for a bit more of a challenge - but a challenge that is nonetheless met with steadfast procedures and preparation by the local authorities. Now Ipoh in terms of terrain - there's quite a bit of it - but IIRC, it DOES have an ILS - a major plus - albeit for RWY04 only. So why the necessity to upgrade the airport now - perhaps the DCA and MAHB could better spend money in devising workable procedures and dealing with what you have first before spending copious amounts of taxpayer dollars on unnecessary additions to existing infrastructure. Perhaps we could learn a thing or two from how other similar airports cope. Perhaps the state governments should look at expanding only when the airport can handle operations that will generate income to finance it's own expansion - this would be the most cost-effective and efficient way..
  24. Gulf Air has been a bit ill, so I would imagine it being in Bahrain.
